Tiara-gate unveiled (shameless pun)

The fact that meghan said, and Harry believed, she had spent “hours and hours” with dressmakers getting the original scalloped tiara to match the scallop veil edge shows, IMO, one of two things:

  1. meghan is a wild exaggerator and Harry is stupid. I had a high end dress custom made for my wedding. For this type of thing she would just need to hand over to the extremely experienced professionals. Meghan would have no input to this.
  2. meghan is an enormous control freak who stood over them for hours to make sure it was perfect

Harry trying to paint this unbelievably first world issue as arduous is yet another example of how ludicrously out of touch with reality she is. Poor Meghan, she went with another diamond tiara and hours of her time were wasted. I mean she had to take off time from her busy schedule of borrowing lipglosses and battling Willy’s finger to boss dressmakers around.

there is also an amusing quote somewhere about how Harry reassured Charles Meghan would not be a large cost addition for him as she “makes her own clothes”. Did she borrow her entire character from Snow White? Seal singing, dress making?

I've spent a happy hour down a tiara Internet wormhole

My 'problem' now is that I will never feel comfortable going out to the coast to see the seals again, they may want me to sing to them.

Tooo funny lol!!

I think MM is more Maria von Trapp tbh!!

@JudgeJ - I think you have to have magical qualities to sing to them and get them to sing back.

And only if you're doing it in clothes you made yourself.

I didn't even consider this. And what if they have a strong preference for a certain song; if we get it wrong they may signal the killer whales to come after us.

They didn’t attack Harry - must have been the ‘magic’.

Maireas · 07/01/2023 20:36

I don't know. Best ask advice from the bin.

HaroldsFrostbittenWilly · 07/01/2023 20:36

Charles could have married again in church as his first wife had died (so the divorce was overtaken).

But he couldn't marry Camilla in church (in England) because she was a divorcee with her first husband still very much alive.

I don't believe BTW that the Spencer tiara would be 'reserved' for Charlotte - it's much more likely to be used by the daughters of the Earl (rather than the grand-daughters of the late Earl not in the direct line)

The now King was not allowed to marry in a church as a divorcee.

Not allowed by whom?

I married in church as a divorcee in 1995.

The then Archbishop of Canterbury.

It's not because he was a divorcee. It was because he was an adulterer marrying the person he committed adultery with. That's a line most churches still won't cross.

Well, I'm impressed with Angela Kelly.
A man that could take out 25 Taliban reduced to getting the shivers by a single look from that woman. Kudos.

Her nickname isn’t AK45 for nothing

Didn't Fergie wear flowers on the way to the church and then a tiara on the way out as she was now royal?

Tiara "under" the flowers I think.

Fergie was a lovely bride. What a shame how it worked out.

diddl · 07/01/2023 20:40

It was because he was an adulterer marrying the person he committed adultery with.

Thank you.

That makes sense.

Maireas · 07/01/2023 20:41

The Spencer tiara has most recently been worn by Sarah and Jane's daughters on their wedding days.
I think tiaras are loaned by the owners to whom they wish.

Have you noticed @Legrandetraitor that Meghan (according to Harry) never just cries but is always on the floor crying to add that extra frisson of drama.

Regarding the makes her own clothes I agree this could be lost in translation a bit due to the other gripe about fashion contacts of Kate, Harry stating Meghan had her own fashion contacts tale. I think the issue at the root of this is that Meghan was told that freebies/gifts were not allowed, clothes. handbags, shoes, etc., had to be paid for. Now Harry knows this is a rule of the RF/Palace and knows why it is, yet another thing he failed to make Meghan aware of.

The whole makes her own clothes/doesn't eat a lot keep giving us lots of money daddy is just so pathetic.

If she's been reading these posts then I think she will be 'fuming', to use the MN parlance.

The historical inconsistency in relation to the origin of the CoE and Henry the 8th didn’t seem to come into it!

It isn’t inconsistent because Henry 8th didn’t divorce Catherine of Aragon (or Anne of Cleaves for that matter). He separated from the Roman church because the Pope refused to issue an annulment, and made himself head of the church so he could issue the annulment himself. Divorce and annulment are different things, and often confused wrt Henry 8th. I blame the rhyme.

I’m so glad I opened this thread. I am none the wiser about what actually happened with Meghan’s tiara, but my tiara general knowledge has certainly increased!

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 07/01/2023 20:43

So much respect for Angela Kelly 🤣🫡

for the rest well everything is petty petty petty and doesn’t add up. So much moaning, I thought he is a humanitarian and philanthropist 😅he clearly feels sorry and hard done by a lot.

btw I think one of the “Spencer”cousins (one of Diana’s nieces) wore the Spencer tiara at her wedding. Emily something? Off to google…

The now King was not allowed to marry in a church as a divorcee

The now king was a widower at the time of his second wedding so I doubt this would have been an issue.

But Camilla's ex is still alive so that may have been the problem.

Mumsnut · 07/01/2023 20:44

Some completely unsubstantiated gossip I heard somewhere (oh all right, from my family of journos), but I thought the rather elusive language used by Harry ('When I managed to track her down') tended to confirm it...

AK was on holiday when he demanded the tiara and she ended up having to come back

Ah. That explains it.
Imagine having the temerity to go on holiday when your betters may require your services.

Singing seals and a DIY frock give a whole new meaning to a Singer sewing machine,

Fascinating, ta!

i have deffo been lulled into inaccurate understanding by the rhyme!

Here’s Anne. Wedding one to Captain Mark, very 70s! Look at THOSE SLEEVES!

and wedding two (seems to have been just the one outfit for both civil ceremony and church blessing).

another off white suit - love the heather bouquet (to honour the Church of Scotland blessing):

None of the tiaras looked right apparently.

Me too! And some of them are fucking ugly!!!!!! I wonder if the problem was finding one that was not so old fashioned or fussy as Meghan favours simple lines in her clothing.

Thank God for that, I'd hate to wind up pregnant too.
