I'm feeling a bit sorry for Harry

I feel like he needs his mum more than ever. To put an arm round him and say "enough son".

He needs guidance, he's never had maternal guidance. Its well documented that Williams life has been really enhanced by Kates parents. Harry has never had that and i feel sorry for him.

To paraphrase you haywire

But I think it pretty unanimous from those in the armed forces that he was wrong to give numbers. Its just not something that is done, not just in the UK but in other countries as well.

I would add to that that it was the terminology used too - not just the numbers. It just isn’t done. Not in my experience. And it isn’t done in public either. We just don’t do that.

That's interesting. I have a colleague who is ex British Army, and he said the same when the book came out. Just not done.

ArcaneWireless · 18/05/2023 16:53

The comments I have heard have not been from people on the TV.

I’m not saying people didn’t like him. But the people I know have a mostly different opinion.

The criticism since that comment was justified. On TV and off it. I would posit the notion that the criticism away from the shine of TV was far more succinct. And I would wonder if those who did like him would still like him serving alongside them.

I would have had deep reservations after that comment.

It is perhaps fortunate that he is now a civilian..

polkadotdalmation · 18/05/2023 16:53

As my words have been twisted out of context. I'll say it again. Harry compared human beings to objects. He denied their humanity. I call that as racist as any other denigration of POC

Denying the humanity of people is what led the nazi atrocities and the taliban atrocities. When you start denying someone's humanity and right to life you start on a very slippery slope to mass murder. There is no guarantee harry didn't fire on innocent civilians or conscripts to the taliban cause.

For clarity the actions of the nazis and the taliban are monstrous but they are still people. People frothing at the mouth and accusing me of appalling beliefs should really look hard at themselves.

I don't hate Harry but I have no respect for someone using wealth and white privilege to denigrate POC It's just not honourable. Fwiw I totally disagreed with the invasion of Afghanistan at the time.

Maybe my posts are a little too woke.

polkadotdalmation · 18/05/2023 16:56

If he'd said he thought of the taliban as chess pieces to distance emotionally and get through the period but now realises the war and the awful loss of life was not justified and I'm sorry so many people died on both sides, I would find that more acceptable.

@unbelieveable22 You are coming across as quite aggressive seeing as mixedrecycling knows all about mixed race families. The clue is in the name

jeffgoldblum · 18/05/2023 17:22

Who is this racist poster that @mixedrecycling apparently supports?
The problem with posts being deleted is that posters can report that they said all manner of things, unless I see it I'm not taking the word of an unknown poster new to a thread making unproven accusations.

Yes I know. A regular poster had accused me of calling Meghan drab when I've said no such thing. Refuses to screenshot and show me. So basically gaslighting me. I've been told I've had PAs deleted which is also untrue. But of course they can say that because you can't prove a negative.

jeffgoldblum · 18/05/2023 17:35

Yep , I've been reading a lot and not posting recently as I couldn't be bothered with the same old bollocks.
I've seen this on many threads , honestly it's like they don't think other posters can read the posts too!

mixedrecycling · 18/05/2023 19:26

?

I have challenged accusations of racism where it seems to be aimed at closing down discussion.

As a result I have been 'piled on' by a handful of posters who have accused me of racism and some really nasty posts about my parenting of DD (who is black), all allowed by MNHQ. One poster (part of a multi racial family) was brave enough to support me, which brought down the wrath of half dozen or so 'it's racism' posters on their observations of their multi racial family on their posts.

Actually mixedrecycling is nothing to do with my family! I was searching for a user name and staring out at the garden, and saw the Council's green box to collect the (mixed) recycling!

Perhaps that's what has annoyed my critics so much? It hadn't occurred to me!

But I suspect it is more that I have challenged various posters attitude that they speak for all POC.

mixedrecycling · 18/05/2023 19:29

If @MNHQ are finally waking up to the way accusations of racism are being used to create a toxic environment on these threads then it is long overdue!

mixedrecycling · 18/05/2023 19:37

Perhaps @MNHQ should act if posters report/accuse others of racism more than 10 times without justification? Or something like that?

It is best if something borderline gets reported and addressed if necessary. But doesn't there come a point where multiple unsubstantiated accusations of racism become something more than sensitivity to racism, and become aggressive?

And start to trivialise genuine racism?

Maireas · 18/05/2023 19:52

That's what bothers me. It's seemingly used to shut down discussion. There's just no way out from there.

i am confused
i am sure you can’t be defending the nazi’s that would be preposterous.
the nazis wee inhumane in there treatment of people

Howsimplywonderful · 18/05/2023 19:54

Some posters just can’t understand that posters don’t like her as a self absorbed, humourless, word salad, super woke , exaggerating, californian.

If Harry had married Gwyneth Paltrow, I’d also be eye-rolling and laughing if she made statements like ‘be the visionary of your own life’ and insisted she was trapped in the palace etc

polkadotdalmation · 18/05/2023 20:01

@mixedrecycling This is so true. By throwing accusations left right and centre, it trivialises and devalues them. I was accused of being a royalist because my old name was purple Dalmatian, when the reality was I looked at my phone cover and it had a purple splotched Dalmatian on it!

I just reported a really racist comment made about you by wheannu on a thread, without realising it was full so it will probably not be deleted, but it was so nasty I had to do it. You're right they are getting away simply because most people don't bother to report, so my policy is now report report report.

I put some posts here about simple humanitarian beliefs, and a sickening accusation was made against me and was deleted. If any of the accusations against me had been even slightly true my posts would have gone, but none were deleted. To me this proves there are deliberate and targeted attempts to attack and misrepresent some posters for their own ends.

jeffgoldblum · 18/05/2023 20:03

@polkadotdalmation ,@mixedrecycling 👍👍💐

polkadotdalmation · 18/05/2023 20:04

@Samcro If you read my actual posts and not the misrepresentation some posters attempted to convey, you would see I don't in any way support the Nazis. Sometimes you can be more nuanced and accept many soldiers fighting in the german army under nazism, were simply conscripts. They probably didn't want to be at war any more than the rest of the world. Who on earth in Germany could stand up and say nazism was wrong? They would be murdered along with the Jewish people, and many of them were.

Just please no vagina scented candles!

I must admit GP and chris Martin had me doing a wtaf!

The group of men who tried to blow up hitler and were hanged with piano wire to prolong the torture before they died, were Nazis. Nuance.

jeffgoldblum · 18/05/2023 20:03

@polkadotdalmation ,@mixedrecycling 👍👍💐

It has been horrible at times, but I refuse to back down to bullies.

The most hurtful was when I tried to discuss DD's experiences of racism, and was accused of being a 'white saviour'.

Then when I tried to explain that many POC - including friends in South Africa - just didn't have MM on their radar, didn't even have Serena Williams on their radar, as tennis just didn't register.

I was chatting to some (black) friends in SA this week and had meant to ask them their views on Meghan to report back... but listening to their struggles about the cost of living, wages staying the same since 2020, members of their family having lost jobs and their wages having to stretch even further, going to bed hungry... well, it would have been insulting. So I didn't.

They knew DD as a baby with her birth family, and are delighted she is thriving here. They are part of her life and help her stay in touch with her birth community. I help support their children's education.

And yet on MN I get vilified by a handful of people, who denigrate the relationships I have with some truly amazing people who live with the daily experience of racism and oppression - who I am privileged to have got to know on a personal level, partly because of DD.

polkadotdalmation · 18/05/2023 20:22

@mixedrecycling Your experience and clear love for you child and your/her birth country shines through. Honestly some people are nasty just for the sake of it, and I don't get it, I really don't. To me your experience, like anyone's experience, is unique and valuable. I couldn't believe the nastiness you were receiving and the gaslighting around your DDs life and experience. She sounds brilliant and with her head in the right place. You've every right to be a proud mum

Thank you. I have felt under attack so often, but refuse to be bullied out.

Happy to be challenged about my views, but the 'challenge' all too often has been because I am white and therefore my opinions can safely attacked as 'racist' by a POC who disagrees with me.

Maireas · 18/05/2023 20:24

@mixedrecycling , yours sounds like an interesting and extraordinary story. I'm sorry that you've been targeted like this, it's such a pity that reasoned discussion can't exist on certain topics and it becomes hostile and personal.
