I'm feeling a bit sorry for Harry

I feel like he needs his mum more than ever. To put an arm round him and say "enough son".

He needs guidance, he's never had maternal guidance. Its well documented that Williams life has been really enhanced by Kates parents. Harry has never had that and i feel sorry for him.

Heavens to Betsy. Of course no one admires Nazis or Hitler or the Taliban. They're all barbaric. But I think it pretty unanimous from those in the armed forces, including friends and acquaintances who have worked with Harry and still like and admire him, that he was wrong to give numbers. Its just not something that is done, not just in the UK but in other countries as well. I know Harry tried to justify it later as a tool to help mental health issues but that was a pretty poor cover really.
Harry went war and was admired and liked by the soldiers he worked with. He deserves to be aknowledged for that. But at the same time he made an error in judgement whist writing about the Taliban, which has been spoken about by more experienced people than me and I expect than people on here. Is it not possible to accept that both things can be true? He did well and he fucked up. Just proves he's human.

Great shame it didn't

mixedrecycling · 18/05/2023 15:19

End of conversation from me.

Except it wasn't!

Yes, a shame your post didn't stand, as I requested

jeffgoldblum · 18/05/2023 15:21

@mixedrecycling , didn't report it , I did, which I already clarified.

Thanks @mixedrecycling , I was surprised at the post ! , particularly as it was aimed at another poster, however judging from my reply from mn it would have been removed anyway, as it clearly broke talk guidelines.

Why would further conversations be a PA? Surely you can explain your post without attacking me?

To paraphrase you haywire

But I think it pretty unanimous from those in the armed forces that he was wrong to give numbers. Its just not something that is done, not just in the UK but in other countries as well.

I would add to that that it was the terminology used too - not just the numbers. It just isn’t done. Not in my experience. And it isn’t done in public either. We just don’t do that.

jeffgoldblum · 18/05/2023 15:35

@ArcaneWireless , yep ! , as I said a long time ago on a thread about this , my dh would never have used those terms or discussed this in public.

Shocked Oh My God GIF

Wow. That’s quite the statement.

jeffgoldblum · 18/05/2023 15:37

@Mytattooisbiggerthanyours 🤣 , that gif is making my head and eyes spin!

Hello everyone,
We can see that things are getting a little heated on this thread but we'd like to remind you that Mumsnet is here to make parents' lives easier. While we encourage healthy and robust discussion, we hope that everyone can respect each other in their choices and express their views without resorting to personal attacks and/or endlessly tagging other posters to make a point that has already been made. basketball wives if i had some pearls on id be clutching them GIF by VH1

Sorry.

mixedrecycling · 18/05/2023 15:45

Completely agree! Maybe I am a bit sensitive having been accused of racism so many times by so many posters, without MNHQ having either feeling the need to delete my posts for racism or challenging the accusations.

Maybe my fault for not reporting posts.

Haywirecity · 18/05/2023 15:47

But let's not forget at the same time that he was popular and well-liked by the soldiers he worked with and has gone on to do great work with injured veterans.

It doesn't seem right not to acknowledge both sides of his character. He's impetuous and doesn't think out or doesn't care about the consequences of his actions. But at the same time he has positive qualities where he can reach out and people warm to him. He does sound very much like Diana when summarised like that, doesn't he?

mixedrecycling · 18/05/2023 15:49

To summarise - if a poster accuses many posters and posts of racism, but MNHQ does not agree the posters/posts were racist, doesn't MNHQ have a responsibility to address the false accusations?

As things stand there seems to be no consequences for false accusations, which has become an effective way of shutting down debate.

Mytattooisbiggerthanyours · 18/05/2023 15:36

Wow. That’s quite the statement.

It is indeed. It certainly takes support of Harry to a whole new level, and one that really is not level headed.

ArcaneWireless · 18/05/2023 16:01

But let's not forget at the same time that he was popular and well-liked by the soldiers he worked with

I have not heard anyone express this opinion so cannot comment on that.

The opinions I’ve heard since he made that statement would indicate to me that such feelings could well have changed. Significantly.

He's impetuous and doesn't think out or doesn't care about the consequences of his actions

Unfortunately that kind of trait was not at all desirable in my old line of work. It would have got us killed.

Haywirecity · 18/05/2023 16:12

That's definitely true. I've seen sol0diers talking about him on telly. There have even been posters on here whose relatives have worked on bases at the same time as him and they've said they liked him.
I have seen criticism on TV from soldiers who know him over his Taliban comments but they weren't indicating that they now didn't like him. They just thought that what he said was ill-cinsidered and just not done.
