The royal family

Prince Harry reveals that he killed 25 people in Afghanistan. He did not think of the 25 as ‘people’ but as ‘chess pieces’

Of all the idiotic and stupid things to say this has to be his worst yet. I have some close members of my family in the forces and none of them ever discusses whom they may have killed in conflict, no matter the circumstances.

This is a massive no no. I honestly believe he has crossed the line on so many levels now. Next time he cries about his security he needs to have a long hard think after this.

I'm in awe at his stupidity now 😳

Surely Meghan would have gotten to review the book before it was published?

And. So what? Unless of course you think that Harry has no agency.

BinBandit · 05/01/2023 19:50

Terrorist groups are not overly known for their logic. They may well have been aware (or not) but this will be seen as a public affront in an area where face is everything. This will stir things up.
As for Megan not being stupid. I agree to a point but i think she is so self centered and lacks awareness and perception of how other people might view things so is not the best person to be giving counsel about anything in the book tbh.
I think Harry needs a proper friend. Someone who cares about him and understands his world and knows the people in his circle. No idea who that should be - maybe someone on the outskirts of the family or whatever but not any of those closest to him.

trucklebrunch · 05/01/2023 20:02

Surely Meghan proof read it for him...surely she would have understood the additional threat to their safety a statement like this as would bring to their family. She's an intelligent woman. Why didn't she stop him. And the author.....did nobody see or say anything?

No decent advice, nobody has his best interests at heart he's just a rudderless ship.

They are not acting in their children's best interests, in many ways.

This lad needs quietly taking out of circulation, for his own good. A few years under close supervision and not one word in public, ever again.

Why because he told the truth about his experiences?

Do you also think Andrew should not tell the truth either?

I’m not a royalist and I don’t hate them either but one thing I do hate is how they always have to stay silent, especially the woman.
That’s why Kate is admired much more than Megan because Megan will speak her mind and talk about her experiences whereas Kate will stay quiet like a good little woman’s supposed to do.

I think him speaking out about things like this is one of the best things he’s done and I wish other family members would also do the same.

I'm quite surprised actually, I didn't know he could count.

What I find will be interesting to see is how this is reconcinciled with The Brand

the brand they’ve been pushing has all been airy fairy be nice to everyone etc.

he has taken a very clear stance in favour of extreme military intervention. He’s entitled to take that position. But it is MASSIVELY at odds with how they seem to have been developing their brand.

Edinburghmusing · 05/01/2023 20:47

I also wonder why they don’t come out with statements about the absolute clusterfuck that was the withdrawal from Afghanistan and what’s happening there now

to say that the military intervention was entirely justified because of 911 is just so simplistic. And how can it still be justified now given what’s happened.

Never mind that what about the editor at Random House , surely they would have realised how exposing this could be

Brown lives being casually likened in value to chess pieces. None of the usual suspects screaming racism!

F4chrissakes · 05/01/2023 21:11

There was a thread in here the other day about a lad of 16 who wanted to serve in the army, and was refused because he'd had some contact with mental health services. So how the hell did Harry get in? He had counselling when his mother died, didn't he?
And having got in, I find it hard to believe that a person, the monarch's grandson no less, assigned a close protection officer in civvy street, gets to do anything more dangerous than make the tea in a combat zone, whilst housed in a relatively safe compound. With his team of Gurkha pals to look after him.

Thirdsummerofourdiscontent · 05/01/2023 21:18

I personally don’t believe a word he says anymore, he is such a attention seeking idiot.

Yes but they stand to profit from more sales so the more controversial the better.

Throwncrumbs · 05/01/2023 17:07

He is a fantasist, he spent most of his time in Afghanistan inside a tent, playing a PlayStation, according to real soldiers that were there. He is bonkers. He is an idiot!

I don't think that's true. I know someone who served alongside him and while they haven't said much about him they certainly didn't say this.

YesterYay · 05/01/2023 21:29

Harold is trying to appeal to the US public with this confession. Especially the 9/11 reference.

Grim, grim, grim.

Unless it inadvertently paints him badly then it's the god given truth...

Madamecastafiore · 05/01/2023 22:08

Should have equipped the taliban with a dog bowl!!

LouLou198 · 05/01/2023 22:12

For someone who wanted to escape public life by stepping down from royal duties, he's doing a pretty good job of remaining in the tabloids.
I am honestly glad the queen god bless her is not alive to see this shit show unfold.

NameChangeGin · 05/01/2023 22:15

I bet the families of those 25 people certainly didn't see them as chess pieces. And now he's blabbed about killing people, you can bet his security risk has just doubled. Stupid boy. What is he doing.

Mysterian · 05/01/2023 22:16

Killed 25 but injured by a dog bowl while wearing a necklace.

I was concerned he would mention his time in Afghanistan as a security risk
Even I didn’t this he would be stupid enough to claim he killed 25 people
If I was Meghan I would be absolutely livid
He has banged on about keeping his family safe and now done this

I have no words

Absolutely this, why doesn’t he just walk around with a target on his back.

MoscowMules · 05/01/2023 22:20

Someone didn't listen to their OPSEC briefing 🤦🏻‍♀️

I get the wanting to tell what happened with his family, I get wanting to explain his life and how it has been. That's fine.

But to come out and publish your "confirmed kills" in a memoir...that I don't get.

It wasn't a off the cuff answer to a question or anything.

He has read drafts of this book over and over again probably, did he really not see how this poses a significant security issue for him 🤦🏻‍♀️

William would likely have advised him well...but..

I'm not sure Harry is willing to listen to anyone that cautions him against anything. It's 'i want this, and I want that' and if anyone points out this and that might not be such a good plan, I don't expect he talks to them again ..
