Prince Harry reveals that he killed 25 people in Afghanistan. He did not think of the 25 as ‘people’ but as ‘chess pieces’

Of all the idiotic and stupid things to say this has to be his worst yet. I have some close members of my family in the forces and none of them ever discusses whom they may have killed in conflict, no matter the circumstances.

This is a massive no no. I honestly believe he has crossed the line on so many levels now. Next time he cries about his security he needs to have a long hard think after this.

I'm in awe at his stupidity now 😳

25 "people" as in citizens/kids or the ones in the mountains who are now in the town today creating the nightmare for everyone?

Blossomtoes · 06/01/2023 19:13

He's not the first military man to say this. I imagine many feel this way.

That would be why the military community is so angry, then. He’s totally betrayed his military family as well as his birth family - and his wife. There’s nobody he hasn’t thrown under the bus.

Lostinalibrary · 06/01/2023 19:16

His name is dirt in military circles. You only need to speak to anyone in the military to know that or look at the many services banter social media. He’s a laughing stock in military circles for being floored by an RAF officer and admitting it. The joking hides the utter disgust for crossing the line.

just appalling

No civilian area would be given as the "grid reference" for support.

How the air support works is the lads on the ground ask for the support and give the grid reference, the air support then delivers that, with fire power.

Now that's not to say a stray civilian might have been in the area, but you couldn't as part of the Geneva convention request air support be fired at a obvious/mainly civilian area.

Problem Harry has is his tour dates are well publicised, so any jihadist with tinterweb access can look up when he was there, then they can match up to when a brother/cousin/friend was KIA by a air strike and then you've possibly got someone with a very personal axe to grind.

So random Jo Bloggs who says "I had 25 confirms/assists in Afghan" probably going to never be able to work out his deployment dates. But Harry is different. He's opened himself up big time here.

Secsee 'From the short extract we've seen, he doesn't seem to glorify it. He just stated that he killed people in active combat. And that he (like others, I'm sure) viewed them strategically as chess pieces.'

I think the book does say he's been reflecting on this part of his life, but the real problem is confirming he has killed 25 Taliban fighters, a group not known for abiding by the Geneva conventions. I'm sure anyone with half a brain would have realised a soldier in a combat role has likely killed enemy operatives, but confirming the fact, and the number involved is a really dumb thing to do. It puts his whole family in danger, but not only them.

Canthave2manycats · 06/01/2023 19:36

He's totally a loose cannon now - I hope he doesn't bloody think he's getting UK funded security protection after this!! He can fund it himself from his ill-gotten gains.

It's all shockingly tone deaf, lacking in self awareness, petty, spiteful, jealous and vindictive. I'm sure his family all angry and hurt with his behaviour but I hope they don't say a word in public about it. That's what the twat is spoiling for, tit for tat. Nobody needed to know how many people he's killed, or about his frozen dick, or his first shag al fresco out the back of a pub!! Or that it was Kate and Willy's fault that he wore a Nazi costume, and didn't know that p&ki was a racial slur???

Such a contrast to his grandparents! This spoilt, entitled twerp has no loyalty to anyone. Hopefully he's burned his boats now. Bloody hell, wouldn't you have thought that being the "spare" was a positive thing? TG that's what he was though.

SnottyLottie · 06/01/2023 19:38

Ben McBean, who served with Harry in Afghanistan, described the prince as a "top class dude" but added that he "didn't think it was wise" for him to have said how many people he killed.

Speaking to Sky News, he said: "That's probably what happened, but it wasn't wise for him to say it out loud because he's already got a target on his back, more so than anyone else, and it's probably a bit bigger now.

"He's potentially caused security risks for him, for his family, which is the last thing he needs."

When talking about combat how you personally cope should be separate to how you discuss it openly. Use of force is in connection with the rules of engagement which ensure legality and a protection for soldiers. There’s no chess, call of duty or any other form of gameplay

SnottyLottie · 06/01/2023 19:43

Also just seen this on a sky news article:

‘Whether he likes it or not, as a member of the Royal Family Harry's role is political and has geopolitical and diplomatic consequences.
He does not seem to have thought that through.
He certainly did not seek authorisation from His Majesty's Government before publication for details that could have a direct consequence on British subjects and interests’

That’s…worrying 😐

Totally agree, I added that onto my post.

The content is not the problem imo but should not have been publicised at all. Hasn't he already had someone arrested a few years ago for trying to harm him? He should've definitely been more careful.

Sandra1984 · 06/01/2023 21:02

I like him even more now.

Xenia · 06/01/2023 21:21

He should have taken better advice before putting that part in the book. It is fairly easy to say he saw active combat without saying he killed 25. Also does his contract with the army allow him to disclose those details?

Xenia · 06/01/2023 21:22

I know some ex soldiers have to get permission before they write a book.

I find the reverence of the military very bizarre. To me it's a bit like saying at least Hitler donated to the local abandoned dog's charity Confused

Well done. You’ve insulted every serving member and veteran of the armed services and their families. I hope you’re proud of yourself. It’s not big and it’s not clever.

VladmirsPoutine · 06/01/2023 22:00

Yup I'm okay with it. The British military did horrific things to my grandparents. Unspeakable things some of which still happen to this very day. I have absolutely no shame in saying they're terrible. They ruined and destabilised my home countries with fun abandon. They tortured, maimed, raped, pillaged and killed. I hope they all seek therapy for the fallout from the PTSD they must suffer but being proud of being a veteran is like being proud that you once gave your empty bag of chips to the homeless man you walked past so he could smell the chips and helpfully put the packet in the bin for you.

Blossomtoes · 06/01/2023 22:07

I’m sure we can organise a collection.

Goosefatroasts · 06/01/2023 22:07

@VladmirsPoutine

Grow up. My heritage is Irish and I’m pretty sure the English army wasn’t too clean there either but thankfully it’s all in the past now and I don’t begrudge British soldiers past, present or future. You really are hateful I think you’re the one who needs therapy not them.

Seriously, just grow up.
