Meghan 'offended' for telling Kate she had 'baby brain'

Well, the Daily Fail have got their hands on a Spanish copy of the ''memoir'', so there is going to be shrapnel flying about from now until kingdom come.

One of these ''revelations'' is that Meghan made a joke about Kate having ''baby brain hormones'' a month after having Louis, which upset Kate, which in turn then upset Meghan.

Can you imagine the Oprah-style feeding frenzy had this been reversed - Kate telling Meghan that she had baby brain and hormones, which would have perfectly tapped into the villainous ice queen depiction that H&M are flogging right now?

Harry is soap operatising the royal family in the most sensational and tabloid dripfeed way possible (calling his brother his 'archnemesis'.

He is shockingly narcissistic, if he thinks this is not also going to also blow up on him and Meghan. The hypocrisy and whole thing is a shit show.

But it depends on how it is said. Context and tone of voice is key.

For instance, if I forgot where my keys are shortly after giving birth, and someone said in a nice way "don't worry, you must still have baby brain", I wouldn't mind.

If I gave my opinion on a political matter shortly after giving birth and someone remarked "oh my god, that's ridiculous, you must still have baby brain", I would be offended.

According to the newspapers, Harry says in the book Meghan said this to Catherine in response to Catherine being upset about something to do with bridesmaid dresses and the timing for the wedding rehearsal. If so, this is v rude. It’s belittling the other person for being upset.

God what an unpleasant post

ginghamstarfish · 05/01/2023 19:31

I despise this whinging pair more and more, but really now cannot believe two people can be so keen to keep on embarrassing themselves for money. It's almost like a parody now, and toe-curling.

Museya15 · 05/01/2023 19:31

I wouldn't be offended if someone have said that to me but had someone had have said that to Meghan, she would've been outraged at breaking the sister code blah blah blah!

CHARLES: Oh stop! I want to feel my way along you, all over you and up and down you and in and out . . .
CAMILLA: Oh!
CHARLES: Particularly in and out.
CAMILLA: Oh, that's just what I need at the moment.
CHARLES: Is it?
CHARLES: Oh, God. I’ll just live inside your trousers or something. It would be much easier!
CAMILLA: (laughing) What are you going to turn into, a pair of knickers? (Both laugh). Oh, you’re going to come back as a pair of knickers.
CHARLES: Or, God forbid, a Tampax. Just my luck! (Laughs)
CAMILLA: You are a complete idiot! (Laughs) Oh, what a wonderful idea

Yup, thanks for the transcript, it's just as I said with the 'just my luck' bit sounding like a joke to me but whatever ...

Can't get too worked up about a conversation two people had more than 30 years ago 😘

Why did you bring race into this?

Eh??

It was Meghan who was apparently "offended" at being told she had been rude to Kate, which she had. And it was Kate who sent flowers despite being the wronged party.

VladmirsPoutine · 05/01/2023 19:37

@Museya15 Because whether you like it or not a lot of the way you're treated in life is predicated on your race. I know this categorically because I am mixed race. There are many narratives played out about this dysfunctional bunch which when do look to me very suspect. Throw into the mix a family built on imperialism, superiority and colonisation then it matters not one jot that Meghan is about as 'white' as you can get with a biracial person.

I don't care about the RF at all - I happen to think they should all open MS Word and create CVs. But I see a lot of rhetoric which I just recognise for what it is.

Try and move on in life, stop living in the past, it makes your heart and head tired and angry. I have experienced terrible racism, I'm over it.

Oh give over. You’re projecting your own experiences and bitterness onto a situation which has no connection with your own. You have your own agenda, clearly, but please take it somewhere else - start your own thread to discuss your own situation maybe?

I am sure the H and M supporters will say Kate needs to lighten up but I am imagining the howls of outrage had Kate accused Meghan of having baby brain .

"you need to lighten" , aka, "you're overreacting" is what abusers say.

Harry's 'wanting his dad and brother back' whilst clearly demanding that they comply is coercive and controlling.

RF seem to have given themselves enough rope and H&M are doing the rest

IcedPurple · 05/01/2023 19:45

Kate is white women personified.

Would it be OK for someone on MN to describe a high profile woman as 'black women personified'? Or 'Asian women personified'?

Or is lazy juvenile stereotyping only OK for white women?

ShamedBySiri · 05/01/2023 19:47

Surely the point is not so much that telling Catherine she had "baby brain" was mean but that she had no sympathy for a tearful C who had only recently given birth and instead of being home resting and breastfeeding she had to wrangle small children for a fitting and deal with a bridezilla who sneered at her for being emotional. And then claimed victim status for being called out on it.

Poor Catherine.

Mind, although she often rewears clothes, I would think one might get something new for a big close family wedding. Perhaps there was a subtle message in that pre-worn outfit at the wedding.

I think this sums it up. I talk about having baby brain all the time being a month pp and I see it as an acknowledgement that sleep deprivation and hormones do have an impact on your cognitive function, they definitely affect mine! If someone said it in a cruel or dismissive way then I understand being offended, but said in jest- no wouldn't see this as offensive at all I'd likely agree with it if I hadn't already said it myself first. For me it sounds like Kate has felt a bit vulnerable (understandable having just had a baby with the world watching) and has felt it as a jibe whereas I can see that not being the intention. I think the comments made after probably offended since someone telling me I'm not close to someone who's going to be my family is a bit shitty and would make me feel like a bit of an outsider. So I don't think either are in the wrong completely but I don't think Williams comments were tactful either. And really we don't know the context so we can't fully judge.

VladmirsPoutine · 05/01/2023 19:48

I have experienced terrible racism, I'm over it.

@Museya15 I refuse to accept when you say you're over it because even if you made it out the other side what about our kids? What about the black/mixed girls being stripped searched in their schools with no guardian present because someone decided they 'smelled like weed'? What about the anxiety when you apply for your next job wondering if despite your qualifications your face just won't fit? What about the fact that today racism doesn't mean someone shouting at you to 'go back to your country!!' - because it translates in being stalked around shops, talked to like your dumb despite speaking multiple languages, always being the one to adapt and just knowing if you make a white woman cry your days are numbered.

I give zero fucks about the RF - but a lot of this Meghan hate is actually down to racism. I'll be the first to admit that not everything is 'racist' but when you look at the language used, the descriptors, it is something many black women have heard since they could walk and talk. Meghan only has the misfortune of the baptism of fire - her being mixed race in California was / is very different from her being mixed race as the wife of a British Prince.

That's not the 'gotcha' you think it is. I don't know if you have ever heard about it but the reason why it wouldn't work in reverse is because black women have never subjugated white women. HTH Smile

Meghan behaved badly to Kate , and went complaining on Oprah. She wanted to world to know she was the ‘victim’

that was a lie and we all know it now thanks to her husband.

JustMerkinYourChain · 05/01/2023 19:54

I expect they both behaved in regrettable ways and neither are evil or perfect. It’s just unfortunate now that the level of publicity has made it beyond repair. Unless they’re sitting the proceeds (joke!)

IcedPurple · 05/01/2023 19:55

But an individual black, or mixed race woman, can behave horribly towards an individual white woman. And vice versa.

The fact that Meghan's mother is black doesn't automatically make her a victim, or even a nice person. People of all races are capable of behaving appallingly.

Dismissing someone as a 'personification' of an entire race is unpleasant and a bit idiotic. I don't think you're up for any sort of a discussion which treats Meghan as some sort of innocent victim so I'll leave it there.

NuNameNuMe · 05/01/2023 19:56

I'm on Meghan's side. Who cares about fucking tights on a little girl? And they didn't set the story straight about who made who cry. Kate and William were jealous of how well H and M did their tours. Anyway it's all over now, the charismatic ones have left, we're stuck with the dull adulterous ones. Ho hum.
