How could a parent leave their kids in a situation like that. If Earl Spencer was at best a bully what kind of life did she think her poor dc would have?

Surely, surely in a house the size of Althorpe she could have effectively lived separately from her husband and still been present for her children.

Just awful how the decisions made decades ago trickle down and still devastate. So a fragile and vulnerable Diana is farmed off to the rf and unsurprisingly has a miserable time with a dh who isn't suitable, she then passes on her paranoia and vulnerability to Harry and history repeats itself. I hope Harry can seek help, find the right person to support him and live a happy life somewhere. This isn't it by a long shot.

No, his poor kids will be the victims . Two grandfathers who are estranged. No Uncles and Aunts that they know. No cousins that they know. Very sad. They seem to be being encouraged to put their dead grandmother on a pedestal too.

CoffeandTiaMaria · 03/01/2023 18:19

The problem is that no one with an ounce of sense is going to do/say anything that could end up being put out in public for money. Whether it’s royalty, A-list stars, public figures or family, nothing seems sacred to this couple if money can be made from exploiting it.
The only way they know how to make money is by selling stories, their version of ‘truth’ or not.
Sad and sickening.

Williams, kids were quoted as saying love you granny Diana,or words to that affect ,so you know maybe both of them want their kids to know about her?

Wheresthebeach · 03/01/2023 18:20

I think someone else pointed out that Harry is careful to go soft with the person in charge - first the Queen and now Charles. Seems very calculated, just as their utter silence over Andrew.

There have been various olive branches over the last year - now I think W&K need to just go NC - nothing is going to make H&M happy and continuing to try and appease them is just confirming their sense of entitlement

cyclamenqueen · 03/01/2023 18:22

It wasn't quite as simple as her just upping and leaving. It was a grim marriage , Johnnie Spencer admitted that he 'slapped' his wife. They struggled to conceive an heir and when baby number three was born and was a boy Frances probably thought she was safe but he died. She was sent by her ghastly mother in cohoots with her dh to all sorts of vile 'doctors' to try to 'cure' her of not being able to produce a son and then she produced Diana , so Diana always felt unwanted. Finally she had a boy and the marriage was over in all but name. That would have been it but then Frances fell in love and wanted to leave, initially she took the two youngest but was apparently persuaded to return for a last family Christmas and then thrown out without the children. She thought she would get custody but her mother testified that she was an unfit mother because she disapproved Diana did spend time with her mother who remarried and ended up running a postoffice in a Scottish island.

Diana must have been massively damaged and was a selective mute apparently for several years, she was certainly very odd at school but I think things improved when she was a teen. Her mother was against her marrying PC, she was worried that she might not produce a male heir etc . Her father was determined to get one of his girls married to PC I think she was desperate for his approval and attention, once he had custody he was rarely around and sent them off to boarding school

cyclamenqueen · 03/01/2023 18:24

They didn't live at Althorp then, they still lived at Park House at Sandringham

JoyPeaceSleep · 03/01/2023 18:25

Wow, Harry wasn't talking out of his ass when he talked about generational trauma

Of course they should know about her! In the absence of other healthy family relationships though it's a bit strange that they should be taught to idolise her. Doria seems to be the only family member they have a relationship with. Maybe Eugenie, but she surely must be have her doubts about all this too.

No idea who's advising him, but he needs to sack them and get some new advice

Not easy to sack your wife…

Exactly! I would love an interviewer to say 'how is what you have done any different to what TM did, selling stories and breaching pivacy about family???'

I bet Thomas Markle would like his daughter back too.

What an absolutely arrogant fool H is.

Spot on

At this point she was still only 24!

Funnily Catherine the Princess of Wales' birthday is on the 9th January- the day after Harry's interviews will be broadcast and the day before the general release of his book Spare. As usual trying to hog the limelight - yet again! Harry kindly stop whining, lying ( please give specifics not innuendo if they actually exist ) and shut the F U.

It exists on line with a violent force that has far reaching consequences. She was hounded and continues to be hounded.

The world has been watching and the Royal Family is getting the attention it so richly deserves.

UK is very small. The US and the Commonwealth is very large. Guess whose side they are on. Who controls the future will eventually determine the narrative.

People saying horrid things about you online is not quite the same as being physically hounded by having umpteen paparazzi with their telephoto zoom lenses following you everywhere you go.

Autumn61 · 03/01/2023 18:42

Why on Earth would he want that creature back in his life ?

You also asked 'are there supposed to be ready made comments?' which I didn't fully answer. I can if you like, using a random example, briefly?

I'd very much welcome that if you can spare the time, @AutumnCrow ... always keen to learn!!

Does anyone actually realise that the present royal family are not responsible for the wrongdoing of their forefathers?
Does anyone realise that Britain is not the only nation that had an empire?
Does anyone realise that no country is obliged to remain in the Commonwealth?
How about protesting about the atrocities going on around the globe NOW, of which their are many, instead of rambling about the past which we can learn from, but cannot change?
Just remind me which nation was at the forefront of abolishing slavery.......oh wait, that was Great Britain was it not?

Totally agree.

AllyArty · 03/01/2023 18:56

I had such high hopes for H&M when she first appeared as his girlfriend. I thought he was less formal and warmer than most other royals and she was a stunning American girl and they were in love. Win win. Now I’m sick of the pair of them. They need to stop selling their lives to the media and repair their broken relationships with their dads and siblings (behind closed doors) before it’s too late.

Serenster · 03/01/2023 18:56

I have read a bit about Diana’s awful childhood before, and find it rather frustrating when posters here and elsewhere write as if Diana was a well-adjusted and perfectly mentally healthy 20 year old when she got married to Charles, and that all her later mental health issues can be laid at his doors. It quite obviously wasn’t the case. She very likely imagined herself in love with the Prince of Wales, but it’s also quite likely she had deep-seated reasons of her own for wanting the marriage, not least impressing her father and/or escaping an unhappy family and becoming fully independent/independently wealthy. They were obviously not well suited, and both were the product of unhappy childhoods. Add in the massive public interest and no wonder it all turned out badly…

The lunch was hosted by Ewan Venters, the former CEO of the Fortnum and Mason department store.

You mean that eulogy that the entire nation applauded? That speech?

I did applaud it at the time. I thought it was awful and selfish and didn’t put Diana’s children first and foremost at her funeral. Can’t remember the details clearly but I remember cringing at the time.

Doh! That should obviously say didn’t!
