And what exams are those @Cornettoninja

The exams were the officer exams all soldiers have to pass to have career progression. It was felt he wasn't capable of passing them and if he'd stayed on without obtaining higher rank it would have been deeply humiliating for him.

Harry was obliged to come out of Afghanistan (as opposed to quitting the army) because an AUSTRALIAN publication printed he was there. The British press were respectful of the blackout because they knew drawing attention to his whereabouts would be dangerous for everyone. As many have pointed out, the whole "BM" diatribe totally disregards the rest of the world's media who have behaved far worse.

They sounded absolutely pathetic whining about Nottingham Cottage... Absolutely no self awareness or sensitivity whatsoever. With this kind of thing being one of their complaints, it shows how they are clutching at straws trying to find things to have a go at his family for.

It's been obvious for many years that Harry isn't the brightest crayon in the box, but I don't think Meghan is half as clever as she thinks she is either.

Most of us could only dream of living in a cottage like that in such a prime location (and designed by Christopher Wren no less!). It does show that they are willing to complain about every single thing no matter how tiny, petty or ridiculous and yet people are gullible enough to fall for it.

Why on earth would they want to reconcile?! He's delusional. He's created the rift in the relationship by doing interviews and tv shows.

This. 💯

No. Do you?

Grin

A crush. Good grief are supporters still grasping the old she stole our prince and we want him back crap.

I prefer a man to be a bit less wet, a bit more loyal and less of a gossip tbh. And preferably better looking too.

What woman finds a whiny, constantly complaining, angry, bitter manchild attractive? I bet even his wife doesn’t.

Harry and Meghan does not care about the UK market. They are global. They have made their peace long ago that they are hated by the BM and that single fact is what gave the freedom to speak out. Nothing to lose with the British public. Absolutely nothing when their response and position is so well known.

Their prize is a global audience an audience who believes in social mobility and equal. An audience that believes in financial independence, n breaking from colonial past. Unfortunately for Britain it is stuck in the past which are in direct opposition to modern values. Now this wouldn’t matter too much if Britain was in its ascendancy. Sadly its influence is waning and very very few people submit to fairytales and classism.

One side is on the wrong side of history and it is not Harry and Meghan. For good or ill, they have successfully painted the BM and the Royal Family as being in bed with each other and that has resonated across the world. They are definitely winning the war. The BM may run little battles here and there with the constant streams of nonsense and the Palace leanings but that war is being fought for a global audience and the BM and the Royal Family are losing.

Canada is next on the cards to give Charles the boot. I just read an article where there is a call to arms for the Caribbean Commonwealth to be vocal in defending Meghan. The US is largely on the side of Meghan. Africa, India, etc. The former colonies are not playing ball with these reminders from the Royal Family of its racist, colonialist mentality.

Royality is for Britain. One stuck in the colonial past.

Their prize is a global audience an audience who believes in social mobility and equal. An audience that believes in financial independence, n breaking from colonial past.

And they’re doing this by clinging on to royal titles, complaining that daddy’s cut off the money supply, and have shown no ability to earn their living except by rehashing their royal grievances?

Speak for yourself!

And what does this mean?

*Unfortunately for Britain it is stuck in the past which are in direct opposition to modern values"

Apart from the poor grammar, how can a country be "in the past"?

And what are modern values?

Can you explain any of your banal clichés or do we all guess?

I'm not even sure it is being written by a British human, iykwim.

She’s the female equivalent though!

I'm sure I read somewhere that he took m to meet them to show how she was the new Diana and they were less than thrilled!

They seem to be doing a lot of good and getting recognised for the good in the US. Everyone else apart from the BM followers know about their charitable work. When they win awards, there are cries of “they bought the awards”. So they must have a lot of money and power to buy awards from powerful people.

Eh? I live in the US and I haven’t heard much about their charitable work. I know they do a few things here and there, but it’s hardly exceptional.

I’d love to hear that they’re making a big difference here, but so far they’re not.

Honestly, @Maximinimalist, they haven’t made much of a positive impact in the US (yet). I hope they do at some point, but it hasn’t happened yet.

Don't Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice have jobs? I know David Linley has been in business for years too. Peter Phillips did something in sports PR and is now a business manager for Zara's equestrian career, I think.

I read that Japan's recently departed Princess Mako had a civilian job in Japan previously and now has a role in a Museum in New York.

Princess Madeline of Sweden works in Miami for the World Childhood Foundation.

Harry could get a job and live a relatively private life, there is more than enough precedent and examples to show it is possible. I suspect the problem is that it wouldn't pay enough to support the type of lifestyle he wants to maintain.

He’s also got very limited abilities.

MarshaMelrose · 02/01/2023 20:49

Maximinimalist · 02/01/2023 18:17

Why do you think that is? The hate that the former colonies have got Britain has found an Avenue. It’s not love or admiration or even positive interest in the Monarchy. It’s the opportunity and platform to call it out for its past and present wrongs. Cue calls for removing the Monarch as head of state in many commonwealth countries, impetus for the fight for reparations, impetus for abolishing the monarchy, etc.

Harry and Meghan have simply ignited the dormant anger about this ridiculous institution and the brutality it endorsed but was never held accountable for.

Initially, I thought you speaking for the Commonwealth of Nations meant you had some special knowledge. But instead this post actually confirms that you have no idea what the Commonwealth is.

MalagaNights · 02/01/2023 21:00

It's felt to me since the moment they left that they're trying to 'win' as if they have to show the RF they can't stop them.

You can't stop us leaving.
You don't own royal.
We will speak to Oprah.
We will spill all to Netflix.
We will write books
We will give interviews.
You cannot stop us.
You will be sorry.

But it's so warped. What are they trying to win?
Bitterness is a poison that only hurts you.

It's as if they are going and going in the mistaken belief the RF will admit 'defeat' apologise and they will have won.

I think MMs personality is ultra assertive and she likes to believe that taking control will win out.
Harry believes he's been so mistreated that if he tells the world how awful it was we'll eventually side with him.

But it's a doomed strategy. Wanting to win and not letting go is not the route to happiness in complicated family situations.
And also the RF just won't play this game.

So they're left throwing stone after stone at a brick wall looking increasingly twisted & bitter.

They need help. But they don't know they do.

Jackiewoo · 02/01/2023 21:01

They seem to be doing a lot of good and getting recognised for the good in the US. Rocking up to Uvalde with a camera crew and paying for awards isn't doing good or being recognised for it in an honest to goodness sense.

MalagaNights · 02/01/2023 21:05

I'm find all these journos 'helping' them really grim.

I'm sure the likes of Oprah, Tom Brady etc know it's not good for them to do these interviews. But they pretend to be their friends & that they're giving them a 'voice' because however bad it might be for Harry and Meghan it's great publicity for the journo.

And when the shit has settled and H & M can see what a mess they've made these journo friends will be long gone.

ArcaneWireless · 02/01/2023 21:06

It won’t be long till Hazza the musical.. sooooo

He nailed it
He did everything right
He did another interview
Soon be on every night
Recollections may vary
From the red haired and hairy
And no one can say that he failed it
Cos he nailed it

Althooooooughhh

He can’t believe he said that
The kiss and make up bit
Like his bro and pa will take him back
There’s only so much shit
That a family’ll tolerate
Even though he just wants pity
And the only way that it will end
If he stops acting like a titty

He thinks he is the dog’s ones
He’s really rather not
He thinks he is just smoking
But they’ve dropped him like it’s hot
There’s a showbiz set that’s hiding
And will screen all of their phone calls
Cos the fallout is too burny
And they haven’t got the big balls

But he nailed it
He did everything right
He saw the pound signs whirling
And he’s gonna hold tight
He’s looking for solace
In the modern day Wallis
I wonder if he’s sad that he bailed it
He ain’t nailed it.

Was it! I didn't know that

Yes. The MailOnline has a huge presence in the US - 70% of its readership is there, and the online newspaper is very vigorously marketed toward to US readership. The 'Compton' piece was straight outta the home office of an LA journalist.

bakalava · 02/01/2023 21:10

@ArcaneWireless Very good! The Andrew one was the best thing on TV all Christmas!

Ch3wylemon · 02/01/2023 21:10

At least when Andrew thought he nailed it wiser heads were able to prevent more interviews and ground him.

H&M keep going.

Glindara · 02/01/2023 21:11

Just read a piece in The Guardian about the upcoming book Spare:

“An audiobook, read by Harry, will also be released on the same day.”

Impossible there aren’t many excellent PRs telling them this, plus to stop the whinging and instead resell themselves as buddies with K&W - Americans would much prefer that version to bitter outcasts. But H&M won’t listen to anyone except sycophants, which is also the reason M wholly failed to integrate here.

bakalava · 02/01/2023 21:14

If they cannot be king and queen then they are doing their best to try and bring down the show so that K&W never reign either. It is Horrible Histories in the making.
