No one needs the DM to form an opinion on these two - they dish it up “unfiltered” direct from the horses mouth, via numerous interviews on TV and in print, podcasts, docuseries and books - over the last 3 years.

People can watch how their words, attitudes, values and behaviours align or collide “unfiltered” and are left with their own personal impression formed of them over time.

Indeed. I'm looking at the primary sources primarily, i.e. their own outputs.

And the secondary sources now include lead stories today in the Guardian (left wing) and the Telegraph (right wing) newspapers, so it's far beyond 'tabloid fodder' now.

The lives and deaths of sovereigns of the UK have major constitutional importance (whether we like it or not) so King Charles' actions towards his second son are considered to be of interest.

That Harry is living less than his best life in the US could be a problem, if his degree of unhappiness is becoming profound.

StaunchMomma · 02/01/2023 16:20

I'd bet those most angered by this won't even read the article, as was the case with those who were furious about the Netflix show & didn't watch that either.

This weird collective public outrage is even more pathetic than the amount of articles written about the pair.

I wish Harry, Meghan & the baying crowds of fury would all piss off, frankly.

You're ALL boring.

BellePeppa Diana was hounded and not protected. Meghan was hounded and not protected. A pattern.

Much to her disappointment, Meghan was never 'hounded'. That's why they had to use misleading footage of other people in their 'documentary'.

The media environment of Diana's day does not exist anymore.

LizzieSiddal · 02/01/2023 16:15

It is @Maximinimalist where is it from?

As you know there are lots more that the BM has said including them claiming over and over that their scoops came from palace sources and very senior royal members. Now Harry is confirming exactly what they themselves have said, they want to backtrack? Weird. They were so proud before revealing that they had inside knowledge from royal households. Piers Morgan even claimed on his show and on Twitter that members of the Royal Family called him to thank him for going at Meghan.

It’s all ludicrous now to see them wanting to claim that this isn’t true.

The source of this is apparently a Steve Schmidt. Happily these tabloids can’t deny it because they are their own words.

HamBone · 02/01/2023 16:23

I'm not surprised he wants his family back (Yes, even W & K). I'd wager that he misses all of them and his old life but also loves his new family and wants them to be happy.

I agree with this, @SighsTheNewWord and with @bakalava that he probably feels like a fish out of water in LA and misses his family and old friends. I also moved to the US for my American DH’s sake and it’s bloomin’ difficult to settle in, even as an ordinary person. It took me several years.

One of the saddest realities with M&H is that they’re both from dysfunctional families and don’t know much about healthy relationships. I’d argue that her background is more dysfunctional than his, as her family was rife with estrangements. So neither of them can advise each other on how to maintain good relationships- she has no experience of healthy sibling bonds, for example.

I hope they manage to find happiness on LA, but I think Harry is really going to regret all this laundry-airing.

Countdown2023 · 02/01/2023 16:23

he wants his version of ‘keeping up with the Kardashian’s’. He is wealthy but not really rich like some major American celebrities. Poor soul has lost access to royal palaces, homes, security and staff. It really galls him that Wills and Kate will have Windsor Palace address. He is under pressure to make money but he has nothing other than his royalty link to trade and he has shot all his bolts

As for his time in Afghan he will
have been surrounded by people to protect him and certainly will not have done any of the really dangerous stuff.

Charlize43 · 02/01/2023 16:23

For two people who left claiming that they wanted privacy, they certainly like to keep a high visible profile and make a lot of noise.

I refuse to watch anything with these two.

Jackiewoo · 02/01/2023 16:23

MM called a SA ambassadorial house a 'housing unit' and allegedly kicked off when she was 'only' given a wing of the Australian Governor's house during their visit there. It turns out they also whinged about a listed house in London designed by Wren, which monarchs have lived in, that they'd have had for a peppercorn rent.

So does anyone seriously believe MM wanted to leave the UK to go live on a secluded island in the arse end of Canada?

They could have moved anywhere but yet they rock up in Montecito to be amongst the celebrity A list, And dim Harry calls it 'her world'! It never was, although she aspired to it. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if that was always her plan.

He does seem unwell and paranoid, also weak and dim but with all the money and access to resources he has I really struggle to feel even a tiny bit sorry for him. People in far worse situations complain a hell of a lot less.

quantumbutterfly · 02/01/2023 16:23

Didn't Kate get the same snobbery about ancestry because some of her ancestors were miners from...the North(!) and her mum grew up in a council house. The Wisteria sisters wasn't it..highly fragrant voracious climbers.

The Jeremy Clarkson stuff was a recent response to recent stuff, his public persona is obnoxious.

bakalava · 02/01/2023 16:24

There is nothing for him in LA. Really, nothing. He is not in the Industry. He does not have potential to make an impact. He does not have skills which are required behind the scenes. He does not have wisdom, a varied life experience or strong creative skills. He is literally bumming around playing polo and rocking up to fake reward ceremonies while his wife fulfils her dreams of using his name to hobnob with people she has been dreaming about since she was a kid. He has lost everything meaningful in moving there and because of his kids, he may have to suffer many long years of pretending that he is enjoying all that glitzy, vapid nothingness as much as she is.

The media environment of Diana's day does not exist anymore.

It exists on line with a violent force that has far reaching consequences. She was hounded and continues to be hounded.

The world has been watching and the Royal Family is getting the attention it so richly deserves.

UK is very small. The US and the Commonwealth is very large. Guess whose side they are on. Who controls the future will eventually determine the narrative.

I think he's a very damaged man who was desperate to hang onto this woman because so many women in his life have left him, from his mother to all his previous girlfriends. M is vastly more intelligent than him and likely understands the power she holds in this relationship. He is not smart enough to realise his own mental state or to get help for it from the right people.

It's a sad state of affairs really,

I agree. Harry is dim and damaged and appears to be very unwell. I wish he would stop with the interviews and get some proper help.

He does have a charmed life.

He also had a beautiful opportunity to escape and live a wonderful life and to shine in his own right. He chose to cling on to the very thing he said made him miserable.

He doesn’t come across as happy. He doesn’t come across as content. He comes across as bitter. And the title of his book is as good as saying why He feels bitter.

The problem is that continually playing tiny violins will always only accentuate the fact that he is the second fiddle.

Agreed. I don't think though that he was ever bothered about being 'second fiddle'.......that is until he married a social climber who wanted to be at the top of the tree and thought she's get there by marrying a prince - but then found there was still someone above her.

Yes, go Harry, as far away as possible, preferably somewhere with no TV, internet etc.!

The progressive, liberal, left leaning press in the US have also been calling out their hypocrisy for many months including journalists who are POC.

In addition most of their high profile US “friends” have been notably absent by both their silence and their visibility alongside them.

@Maximinimalist I’m not sure that I’d agree with this. I live in the US and the Netflix series, while widely viewed, hasn’t done them any favors here. Americans don’t like victims, they like go-getters and problem-solvers. It’s gone v. quiet here in terms of media coverage. People are bored.

I don't understand people who go on about how irrelevant Britain is, when its ruling family is the only reason anybody gives a toss about Harry or Meghan.

And I'm not sure where you get the impression that outside of Britain, people are on the Harkles' 'side'. Their 'documentary' had abysmal reviews. Look at the comments on just about any media outlet you like, and it's clear people everywhere are sick of their whining. The idea that these two clowns 'control the future' is actually hilarious.

Yes brutal hounding online - as explained in the documentary.

Very true. People are only interested in them due to the RF connection. Without that no Netflix episodes / books etc

Exhausteddog · 02/01/2023 16:32

He says he wants a family, not an institution. From what has come out in all the interviews and even comments from other members of the RF maybe they'd all prefer some "normality" with the privilege and financial comfort that comes from being in the Royal Family
I don't necessarily blame him for that. But having spoken quite negatively about his father and his brother, I think any reconciliation is going to be pretty hard work. But his family is an institution that Charles and William have still chosen/feel duty bound to be part of....so any relationship would surely have to include an acceptance of that.
The freedom and normality they are allegedly chasing still involves camera crews and the documenting of their every day life which doesn't really fit the notion of normal

winterpastasalad · 02/01/2023 16:33

I'm not overly fussed in the Royals either way but watched the Netflix doc. What really struck me was how incredibly naive Meghan was/is. When their address was leaked in LA and drones were flying near their house daily, Meghan was incredulous as to "why would someone want to do this?!" It clearly escaped her that the public are interested in their life. Harry seems to feed into this aswell.

ArcaneWireless · 02/01/2023 16:33

Aye. We had the wisteria.

Now we have Japanese knotweed.
