To think the palace should issue a statement condemning Clarkson's comments?

Reindeersnooker · 20/12/2022 16:01

I'm all for their dignified silence on everything else. I don't trust Harry or Megan. But Jeremy Clarkson's comments are horrific and were made in Britain against a woman who has become a member of their family.

NOT issuing a statement sends out such a hurtful message and indicates that anything can be said about her, for all they care. Even the MPs have managed to put something on paper.

It's clear that Harry will be beyond hurt if they do nothing and this time he'd have a point, IMO. Each comment like this published in the press erodes the boundaries for online trolls. If I was Meghan, I wouldn't feel I could return to the UK as it's clear the normal rules don't apply to her. What will her children think of Britain when they grow up and become aware of these articles? Won't they be likely to wonder how the palace responded? While it makes no sense to try and placate Harry generally, letting this play out without one word of censure to the press seems needlessly provocative.

It wouldn't be difficult to issue a statement saying something to the effect of "We stand against bullying and hate speech..." Two lines to indicate they see it and it's not ok.

Or not?

I suggest you read my entire post, not just that snippet of it.

I did, I just didn’t get it. But that’s cool.

But the tie is symbolic. You just cut the rituals.

Are you being obtuse on purpose? It's not about snipping away at it with your best haberdashery scissors.

insightful, really is an online army trying to control the narrative

It's tiring being described as a "hater" whenever you disagree with 'the lovers' club. It's almost like the thread gets invaded by pre-pubescents who have outgrown Club Penguin because nobody else uses the word "hater" IRL.

Some posters use it several times a day on these threads. Is there some kind of central strategist directing them to do this so consistently? Are they suddenly all about love in anticipation of getting behind a certain love story which might be coming out in 2023?

Roussette · 28/12/2022 20:14

It's tiring being called a Stan, a shill, a fangirl. Very juvenile. Works both ways

What love story? I'm mystified

GilianQadir · 28/12/2022 20:41

Ex Club penguiners 😂

A quote from the article linked to by GilianQadir above:

After successfully parading Clarkson naked and ashamed through their feeds, the Sussexites are fired up and gunning for more. They are duly making another fuss about an article in Politico entitled ‘2022 Is The Year We All Finally Got Tired of Narcissists.’ The author of the piece, Joanna Weiss, made the perfectly reasonable argument – expressed more in hope than anything – that ‘our patience is fading’ when it comes to those who use ‘attention as currency and ego as fuel.’

The article was presumably written before the Sussex Squad twitter mob decided to demonstrate a considerable amount of shameful anti-Semitism towards the article’s author Joanna Weiss, making fun of her looks, and in particular her “typical” nose, and tweeting pictures of concentration camp victims while asking of she had forgotten what happens to Jews. Edifying. With supporters like those, eh…?

Awful. There are extremes on both sides. And the Sussex Squad are one of those extremes and should be avoided.

bakalava · 29/12/2022 09:40

That is why I always ask them: Don't you have a problem with Kanye's vile anti Semitic tweets? I have never received a credible reply.
Corbyn & Co. Hypocrites, the lot of them.

Yes let's ignore the trolls. Let's stop pretending the very offensive comments on 'both sides' in any way represent the majority. Finally, we agree!

It doesn't surprise me that they are too stupid to realise that Rachel's father has Jewish ancestry (although it has not been acknowledged for several generations). She mentioned that she would audition for Sephardic roles in earlier interviews even though she does not look it to me so I am not surprised she never got anywhere.
She actually converted to Judaism to marry Trevor Engleson and had a fully Jewish wedding (although it would have to have been reform Judaism). Her best friend, Misha Nonoo is Jewish as is Jessica Mulroney.
She was still identifying as Jewish at the time of her second engagement to Harry and the archbishop's office confirmed that they would be happy to oversee an interfaith marriage between a Christian and a Jew. It was not necessary because she promptly swapped religions at this point for an easier ride of it.

We'll be on the same side on a thread one of these days!

purpledalmation · 29/12/2022 10:48

Nothing to do with them. Guilt by association is not the case here, if it was we'd all be fucked. Clarkson won't be invited back, guaranteed.

The never complain/explain mantra works so stick with it.

purpledalmation · 29/12/2022 10:52

Frankly Clarkson didn't only insult Meghan, he insulted the entire British public and the royal family. He gave credence to the Sussex's claims and further damaged the reputation of the UK. He's a bloody disgrace and always has been.

Only that story about the Abbey wasn't actually true and originated from the fragrant Camilla Tominey, so I think you're on shaky ground calling others stupid.

bakalava · 29/12/2022 11:17

@BeckyWithTheAverageHair How did you check it wasn't true? Or are you basing that upon your opinion of the journalist mentioned? The rest of the post is fully verifiable and I am talking about my community (through which I have heard quite a lot). Or are you the authority on all of that as well? 🙄

BeckyWithTheAverageHair · 29/12/2022 11:20

No, I'm basing it on this paragraph "Duncan Jeffery, Westminster Abbey’s head of communications, told JTA on Wednesday that the church never said that Markle was Jewish. It only confirmed that Markle could be married at the church despite a previous divorce, thanks to a rule that was instated in 2002."

But I guess the Abbey was lying too?

bakalava · 29/12/2022 11:25

@BeckyWithTheAverageHair They way I interpret that is that they side stepped the issue altogether.
I have enough contact with LA based members of my own community throughout my life to know a thing or two about the Engleson episode but I will not be sharing any of it because that is not the way we do things. I understand why she won't share any of it herself is all.
