To think the palace should issue a statement condemning Clarkson's comments?

I'm all for their dignified silence on everything else. I don't trust Harry or Megan. But Jeremy Clarkson's comments are horrific and were made in Britain against a woman who has become a member of their family.

NOT issuing a statement sends out such a hurtful message and indicates that anything can be said about her, for all they care. Even the MPs have managed to put something on paper.

It's clear that Harry will be beyond hurt if they do nothing and this time he'd have a point, IMO. Each comment like this published in the press erodes the boundaries for online trolls. If I was Meghan, I wouldn't feel I could return to the UK as it's clear the normal rules don't apply to her. What will her children think of Britain when they grow up and become aware of these articles? Won't they be likely to wonder how the palace responded? While it makes no sense to try and placate Harry generally, letting this play out without one word of censure to the press seems needlessly provocative.

It wouldn't be difficult to issue a statement saying something to the effect of "We stand against bullying and hate speech..." Two lines to indicate they see it and it's not ok.

The palace has major influence. A statement can do something to help protect people from bullying and misogyny hate speech. Even a general statement like that will make a difference to how people think and behave.

It may even get the likes to Jeremy Clarkson to be more thoughtful the next time they’re out to attack a member of the royal family. But the failure to say anything suggests the palace are on team Clarkson. And that is appalling.

I think there should be an explanation of what a public funded person was doing there with pier's.

I think she needs to condemn Clarkson articles.

As a family they should speak out for mm.

FGS of course he cares!! I’m sure he was furious when he read it - but he is the head of an institution that does things in a certain why and walks a fine line already when it comes to the press. They never have responded to individual scathing articles and there’s no reason to start now.

She wasn’t in a working capacity. She is allowed to have time off. She wasn’t ‘there with Piers’ they were invited to the same lunch that 200 other people were at.

Camilla was excoriated by the British press, the tabloids regularly referred to her as the most hated woman in Britain, she was villified for her looks. She received a lot of horrendous comments on social media after The Crown aired. Perhaps she's well aware that the best way of dealing with the misogynistic crap is to say nothing. Responses feed the fire.

Perhaps Harry and Meghan have taken a leaf out of RF book and decided no comment is the best response. Who knows. But if they haven't commented, why is it up to others?

Um, William and Kate released a statement on thier twitter account, condeming the racism the England Footballers faced in Euros last year.

The RF are not responsible for the racism in the press and social media and the public were already condeming the racism.

Yet, they used thier platform to condemn it.

It seems no one was angry about Camila simply being in the same vicinity as PM until it was pointed out that she did not, as accused, host Jeremy Clarkson for a private lunch. It’s almost like ANYTHING will be stretched to try and blame the woman.

They didn't put out a statement when a bloke actually broke into the Queen's bedroom and could easily have killed her. I don't know why they would put out a statement about Jeremy Clarkson saying ridiculous things about MM, it would just be very bizarre.
