@JubileeTrifle Im sad when they talk about the press turning against Meghan they don’t mention Diana/Fergie. There was definitely an attempt to turn them against each other and make Fergie the ‘baddie’. So much of all this is history repeating itself.

Exactly.

The press love to play one woman off against another.

Fergie was a buxom wench who struggled with her weight, and wasn't slim and photogenic like Diana. So she got dubbed the "Duchess of Pork" which was just nasty.

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/duchess-york-reveals-soul-destroying-10639569

She also didn't help herself with appalling dress sense akin to a barmaid that had won the lottery.

(Her daughters also had poor fashion sense but seem to have improved over the years).

Things won’t change if no one recognises the underlying issues. Obviously Meghan suffered a different kind of abuse, but the reasoning is the same. Kate good, Meghan bad.
It actually doesn’t matter who she was, where she was from, whether she was black. The press will want to pigeon hole you into that role. Everyone should have been more prepared for that.
It will happen to Williams sons too unless they can change things round.

Sounds to me as if you think defending the faith necessarily means attacking/removing/preventing all the others. Not a very good thing for even a Southern Baptist to suggest as a policy, and certainly at least a century out of date for anyone not a religious bigot. The Queen was neither a Southern Baptist nor a religious bigot, thank God.

That’s a truly bizarre interpretation of what I wrote. My focus was on questioning, so how on god’s good earth did you come to that bigoted conclusion?

I do not view “defending the faith necessarily means attacking/removing/preventing all the others” and at no point did I say that. That was all your own bizarre interpretation.

One of the questions is: what does defender of the faith even mean?

I’ll help you with the dictionary definition of defending.

adjective: defending
1.
resisting an attack made on someone or something; protecting from harm or danger.
"the defending forces were met by a wall of enemy gunfire"
competing to retain a title in a contest.
"the defending champion"
2.
conducting the case for the party being accused or sued in a lawsuit.
"the defending lawyer pleaded for acquittal"
3.
(in sport) protecting one's goal or wicket rather than attempting to score against one's opponents.
"a free kick awarded to the defending team in their own penalty area"

Defender of the faith is an honour, a title given to Henry VIII because he defended the Catholic faith. It's an award not an obligation.

@Inspecto This is the 3rd time you have copied and pasted the exact same thing.

The first time you make a thread about this and only 1 person commented, then you have susequently posted this in various threads as though its some sort of revelation and show stopper.

please stop pasting the same over and over again.

Meghan's dedicated little band of supporters seem to have a knack for repetition

Repetition ad nauseam

and when you ignore them, like toddlers, they shriek the same accusation or falsehood or just their own made up agenda statements even louder and even more repetitively

Royal website: "Prince Harry has become a fully operational Apache Attack Helicopter Pilot after successfully completing 18 months of intensive training

FWIW I neither know nor care what grades Harry got, but since people keep posting this, isn't it rather carefully written?

They could have put "fully qualified Apache pilot" but instead chose "operational", and successfully completing the training could mean anything.
I believe it was said that he'd "successfully completed" his studies at Eton too, and nobody would call that a blaze of glory - though it might have been worse had he not received "help" with his coursework

antelopevalley · 19/12/2022 13:56

@Puzzledandpissedoff So the Royal Family website is purposely misleading us? What a shocker!

So meaningless then?

Serenster · 19/12/2022 14:01

So meaningless then?

As meaningful as someone who has spent several years studying, say nuclear physics or biology and gets awarded the title of Doctor of Philosophy (i.e. a Ph.D.). The honour is the bestowing of the title, the literal definition of the words is not the meaningful part.

As meaningful as someone's great great great grandparents being awarded a PhD maybe.

So the Royal Family website is purposely misleading us? What a shocker!

Well, only a shocker if we've not been paying attention. The whole blasted institution thrives on misleading us, but some seem to enjoy the fantasy

antelopevalley · 19/12/2022 16:44

I know they often mislead us. It is usually nit as blatant as this though.

FishBowlSwimmer · 20/12/2022 07:42

antelopevalley · 19/12/2022 13:56

So meaningless then?

Meaningless in a practical sense yes, but it has 500 years of historical value, if like me you love Royal History.

“ you were given the choice between war and dishonour - you chose dishonour and now you will have war”

” … the futility of appeasing a tyrant “

Winston Churchill -

John Major as PM dealt with Charles, Soames, Diana, the Press - he was forthright, fair, firm, not enough to save a marriage or a life, but enough to quell the storm raging, the tiresome bickering, sniping, accusations, some decidedly unhinged.
Now the son is kicking off. King Charles is head of State, we have a PoW with a young family, a deluded woman using her husband as a fulcrum, still no word from our PM on the subject and still the attacks continue.
Why is this.
Harry and Harry’s wife will have neither Summit nor apology.
King Charles will consider a smaller, shorter, more subdued Coronation in
St Georges Chapel, with greater security, Harry will be removed from the line of succession, Netflix will drop them and all editors at Random House will be tweaking their CV’s .
