Okay so now we are pretending 1 day a week's work (being generous) is fine for both parents with children at nursery and school and with nannies. And that really they are busy with important decisions about the country.
Honestly you Royalists must think we are all stupid.

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet More than working one day a week if you want to call them hard working.
Personally I don't care how many engagements they do, I just want the monarchy abolished. But don't insult our intelligence by calling them hard working.

So if you don’t care how many engagements they do, and just want the monarchy abolished, why bother mentioning how many engagements they do?

You’ve admitted you just don’t think they should have a role at all, so why bother debating if they’re doing enough? I don’t get it

antelopevalley · 18/12/2022 00:42

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet It is Charles job to do things like lead the Royal Family and meet with the Prime Minster. Not William's and not Kate's. And William and Kate are quite clear they are not modernisers.

Then you know very little of the workings of the RF if you think it’s only Charles who’s just started to do the behind the scenes work.

I don’t see how they aren’t modernisers? What do you expect a Royal moderniser to look like?

antelopevalley · 18/12/2022 00:45

Blossomtoes · 18/12/2022 00:44

And William and Kate are quite clear they are not modernisers.

Are they? They look like modernisers to me.

How? Kate seems to be following the Queen's model of saying as little as possible.

Like I say it depends on your definition of hard work.

antelopevalley · 18/12/2022 00:46

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet You tell me how they are modernising?

antelopevalley · 18/12/2022 00:46

If you think 1 day a week is hard work you have led a very privileged life.

And there it is - you want the monarchy abolished so are not prepared to see any value in the institution. Fair enough, I guess there's no point in the conversation.

Kate seems to be following the Queen's model of saying as little as possible.

Ah so you think moderniser = voicing an opinion?

I think the opposite in the context of being a constitutional monarchy.

Seeing as you are determined to be contrary, and because YOU accused them of not being modernisers - tell me what you think a Royal moderniser would look like?

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 18/12/2022 00:48

antelopevalley · 18/12/2022 00:46

If you think 1 day a week is hard work you have led a very privileged life.

It depends what your song in that 1 day. The hardest job is had was 2 days a week, it wasn’t full time hours but that didn’t mean it was easier. Or are you confusing ‘hard work’ with ‘time consuming’?

antelopevalley · 18/12/2022 00:48

There is no point in any conversation on MN. It is just an internet forum. But I am interested in hwat modernising the Royal Family William and Kate are supposed to be spearheading.

I didn’t say they sound like modernisers. I said they look that way. They’ve just downsized to a provincial 4 bed house for a start.

Well you tell us - it was you who made the accusation that they aren’t spearheading anything it seems

wishingyouwell · 18/12/2022 00:50

Don't use 'small children' as an excuse. They have an army of help. No comparison with normal working women and tax payers.
The pre-children statistics also speak to their lack of work ethic. As does Kate's 10 years of not working prior to marriage. They have form.

antelopevalley · 18/12/2022 00:50

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet Okay hard working is whatever definition you want to make it. Working 1 day a week is hard working if you find the job tough? I wish I had such an easy life. I have never only worked 1 day a week since I turned 16 years old.

antelopevalley · 18/12/2022 00:52

They have their very large apartments at Kensington Palace.
If this is what you mean by moderniser, you mean smokes and mirrors.

I think Charles is a real moderniser and the jury is out as to whether that is a good thing.

It doesn’t matter that they have an army of help, that’s not the issue, the issue is that they are 2 people who clearly want to spend time with their children. And a nanny can’t do that in their behalf

And?

So no one ever had a hard job unless they worked all the hours god sends?

Blossomtoes · 18/12/2022 00:54

They have their very large apartments at Kensington Palace.

They don’t live in it any more.

antelopevalley · 18/12/2022 00:54

So what do they do when the kids are at school and nursery or with the nannies? Lots of hours were they are doing nothing then?
You forget we have mainly on this forum all had kids and worked while children are at school. We know the reality and how much time you have when they go to school. Most of us spend that time working.

Coxspurplepippin · 18/12/2022 00:54

antelopevalley, do you think the only work that William and Kate do is that which we see on the TV screen?

antelopevalley · 18/12/2022 00:54

Blossomtoes · 18/12/2022 00:54

Are they giving it back then?

wishingyouwell · 18/12/2022 00:54

Family members in their 70s, 80s and 90s clocking significantly more engagements than you over a long period of time, yeah that's lazy....

antelopevalley · 18/12/2022 00:55

@Coxspurplepippin Read the Court Circular. It has every phone call on it. Every flight. Every meeting no matter how brief.

antelopevalley · 18/12/2022 00:56

When a 90 year old woman was doing more engagements than you I do not think you can claim to be hard working.
