Apologies if other threads on this, I haven’t noticed specifically about this.
Just watcher the H&M documentary (I’m a little behind)
What were your thoughts on the scene where Meghan describes the curtsey? I just found it uncomfortable watching Harry’s face, was she taking the piss?
Ive no opinion on them either way tbh, but must admit I’m interested in the relationship between them. He always looks so desperate to please/prove he’s doing things right…is this just love for her? Is there something off or am I reading too much into it?

I thought she was taking the mick out of herself in that she way over did it as she didn't know it didn't have to be like she'd seen on whatever the TV show she was on about.

Greenshake · 10/12/2022 21:24

Whatever your opinion on this whole sorry saga, Harry definitely looked uncomfortable when that happened.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 10/12/2022 21:25

She’s demonstrating how out of her comfort zone she was. She is laughing at herself.

NibbledSwitch · 10/12/2022 21:25

Taking the piss or not...one human curtseying to another is ridiculous imho

Devoutspoken · 10/12/2022 21:25

Agree, she was mocking her own ignorance or lack of correct etiquette

realmsofglory · 10/12/2022 21:26

She was mocking the British institution

AlexCabot · 10/12/2022 21:27

YABU for posting this here. There's a royal family topic for the H&M threads.

CrackingcheeseWallace · 10/12/2022 21:28

She was mocking the action of having to curtesy to another human being. She clearly didn't like doing it so exaggerated the action. Harry didn't look comfortable.

Baconsprouts · 10/12/2022 21:28

She was taking the piss out of herself.

Anyone who could watch that and think she was mocking the queen needs to seek help or return to education

jamoncrumpets · 10/12/2022 21:29

Look, I guess the Daily Mail has told you she is mocking the monarchy. So little will change your mind on that matter.

TheFairyCaravan · 10/12/2022 21:30

She was taking the piss out herself. So many frothers have missed that because they’re just so desperate to hate her for any perceived reason, be that true or false. It’s ridiculous.

Whataretheodds · 10/12/2022 21:30

She was laughing at the idea of needing to curtsy so low and at herself for doing it.
He looked incredibly uncomfortable

AlexCabot · 10/12/2022 21:30

Thanks for moving this MNHQ

I think it was a stealth boast. The total opposite of what you've described.

This.

I thought it went on a bit long and was too exaggerated, but I didn't think she was mocking the Queen or the institution. I also think Harry looked uncomfortable though because he knew how ridiculous it all was. Which it is.

What an absolute dream for the media though. Seeing as they were being criticised throughout the 3 episodes (and not the RF as they led everyone to believe and whipped them into a frenzy about), it's a great distraction.

ThighMistress · 10/12/2022 21:40

Whether she’s taking the mickey or not, She never ever is self-deprecating - she doesn’t say she tripped up or toppled over - she has to show how graceful she is - it’s a big stealth brag.

It was a poor choice of etiquette example, because it does come across as rude. She seems generally disrespectful, saying “I love grandmas” . I mean, if I were going out with Joe Biden’s grandson and was about to meet him, I’d never say, “I love grandpas.” How rude . In fact rude if the grandparent is just Mary/Bert Bloggs.

I don’t read The Daily mail and hadn’t read anything really about it, this is purely on my having just watched it. I thought she was laughing at herself maybe…it was just Harry’s face? I couldn’t work it out..I was waiting for him to laugh, but he looked angry and then I thought of it differently…
What are your thoughts on the dynamic between the two?

Sorry for not putting it in the right section, I didn’t realise there was a Royal family topic of its own.

I thought she was laughing at herself and Harry looked uncomfortable because it was his role to have explained the situation to her so she didn't feel the way she did. He should feel uncomfortable about not prepping her imo.

TheTantrumoftheToddlerIsThere · 10/12/2022 21:58

I think she was taking the piss out of herself but Harry seemed uncomfortable and that made me feel uncomfortable.

Not sure if Harry was embarrassed by her, by the situation (having to curtesy to their ‘betters’) or because it dawned on him how poorly he prepared her for royal life.

Yes that's how I understood it.

Yep, that’s what I think too.

It’s not just that either, everything like that where she talks about not knowing stuff or expecting something different - he knew, just didn’t ever bother to tell her.

Rememberwheneveryoneusedtosaywhatsuppp · 10/12/2022 22:07

But he looked sort of angry, didn’t he? Not embarrassed that he didn’t prep her

Wanderingoff · 10/12/2022 22:07

She equated it to being at some tacky medieval chain they have in the us

she was mocking herself AND the institution

i found it extraordinary that she made such a point about not being taught things and having to Google god save the Queen when Harry was right there - why on earth was it his responsibility to reach her about royal etiquette?????

i actually thin that - subconsciously- he’s set her up to heap all the crap on his family that he doesn’t have the courage to. He’s chosen someone with the potential to blow up relations with his family and then made Sure it happened. I doubt he’s aware that’s what’s going on. But he has very little self awareness.

i think there was massive racism against Meghan and the press in the uk are weirdly obsessed with her.

o also think she’s a deeply flawed person

everyone is right that the others have been awful. Because they are all awful.
