Apologies if other threads on this, I haven’t noticed specifically about this.
Just watcher the H&M documentary (I’m a little behind)
What were your thoughts on the scene where Meghan describes the curtsey? I just found it uncomfortable watching Harry’s face, was she taking the piss?
Ive no opinion on them either way tbh, but must admit I’m interested in the relationship between them. He always looks so desperate to please/prove he’s doing things right…is this just love for her? Is there something off or am I reading too much into it?

Harry looked very annoyed. She was mocking his grandmother, the Queen, and he was angry because of her disrespect.

How is taking the piss out of herself mocking the queen?

She was taking the piss out of herself.

Anyone who could watch that and think she was mocking the queen needs to seek help or return to education

Agree with this. She was simply demonstrating that she felt she didn't have a clue. She is basically looking back and laughing it herself.

whoareyouinviting · 10/12/2022 22:40

I'll add. I've just watched part 3. They are tackling issues that need to be brought to the surface. I'm from a commonwealth country and the average Brit doesn't understand their own history and the devastation that the empire caused. The impacts sadly are still evident today (and no I'm not Meghan)! It is a part of history that within the UK is very much swept under the carpet.

Unsure33 · 10/12/2022 22:41

She knows how to curtesy she used to do ballet. To me she was mocking the whole thing , not herself . She is very clever. It’s the whole thing of she did not want to be controlled.

if she went other countries she would respect their traditions because guess what she studied International Relations at College.

Unsure33 · 10/12/2022 22:49

I don’t care about them setting themselves up in the USA and having the life they want . They have enough money . Especially now.

But to me being in the Royal family is the biggest opportunity to educate and put wrongs right .The Princess Trust actually turned my niece around and has helped countless young people. So if they are that critical , stay and use the chance to modernise the Royal family . But guess what you can’t be political , and I am guessing as she has strong connections with the me too movement . So I am thinking when she said she did not know why she could or could not say she was admonished for being political . So either Harry did not prepare her or she ignored him .

How is taking the piss out of herself mocking the queen?

We obviously don’t think she was mocking herself , she was mocking the fact she had to curtesy .

The average Brit was down'pit or working in mills from age 4 at the hight of the empire. The people profiting from the empire were not exactly the majority of Brits. Yes to awareness but also let's be honest.

whoareyouinviting · 10/12/2022 22:53

@AloysiaW yes you are right actually. Very good point and some of my ancestors were in those mines. I still stand by the need for history to be addressed though Smile

Cherryana · 10/12/2022 22:54

I have come to the conclusion that everyone is watching this and commenting from their one lens.

To me, it was clear she was laughing at herself and her own moment of ignorance.

It seems other just want to pick at her. And unfortunately the media (Daily Mail) are perpetuating a negative perspective.

I read it as mocking too.
It wasn’t even the curtsey, it was the way she said ‘pleasure to meet you your majesty’

Harry definitely looked angry rather than embarrassed. You could see how he looked over to the back and clenched his jaw.

Was it wrong to say "a pleasure to meet you?"
What should she have said?

twelly · 10/12/2022 22:56

I am not sure what she was trying to do but I think it came over as if she was mocking other traditions (which I don't particularly agree with.) If I was visiting another country regardless or whether I was in a privilege position I do not think it fair to criticise/mock in the way that she is doing so.

Backonceagainwiththerenegademaster · 10/12/2022 22:58

Why are they doing this documentary…why?

I said the way she said it.

And then she looked at Harry to make sure he’s caught it, and he looked down.

It made me uncomfortable

I agree. I think she was mocking the mornachy, not herself for being unprepared.
No, I don't read the DM. I think this because of what she goes on to say afterwards, when she recalls Fergoe and Eugene telling her "you did great!". I don't see how that part can be interpreted as self-deprecating.

Georgeskitchen · 10/12/2022 23:06

Charles just needs to crack on and lift those NDAs to give the story some balance.
Even serial killers are allowed a defence!!

Why are they doing this documentary…why?

Because they are desperate to stay relevant and keep on grinding their big old axe.

Cherryana · 10/12/2022 23:08

‘You did great’ - and then you saw the look of relief on her face and in the tone of her voice. She was saying how huge a deal that first meeting was and how unprepared she was. She had a perfectly normal reaction to the situation she was in and I find it so odd that people are trying to read everything she does and says with such a negative bias.

handbagsandholidays · 10/12/2022 23:10

wotsinthebox · 10/12/2022 21:23

I thought she was taking the mick out of herself in that she way over did it as she didn't know it didn't have to be like she'd seen on whatever the TV show she was on about.

I took it like this too but I felt like as she said it, Harry knew that isn't the way it would be perceived by the public and looked worried!

IntentionalError · 10/12/2022 23:11

She was mocking the monarchy, mocking tradition and therefore disrespectfully mocking the Queen, which is why Harry looked so uncomfortable. He was an army officer, after all, and they tend not to appreciate mockery of the monarch to whom they have sworn allegiance.

oakleaffy · 10/12/2022 23:12

coodawoodashooda · 10/12/2022 21:32

I think it was a stealth boast. The total opposite of what you've described.

I only saw it with the sound turned down, it was a basic ''Up yours''' to the Queen, that silly collapsing from the waist like a felled gallows with her arms out
Harry did look very unamused.

I disagree. I distinctly got the impression she was taking the piss and not of herself and that Harry was uncomfortable at her lack of respect for his family. II haven't spoken,to anyone about it and I'm not a DM reader. It's purely my impression.

Then why did he leave it in?....

He’s approved it, he could quite easily have asked for that to be cut out.

Agree, it was a definite mockery.
Meghan wants the ''Titles'' and easy money, but continually berates the institution that makes her wealthy.

theworldhas · 10/12/2022 23:17

I don’t know what Harry thought, but I found it adorable and I think she’s great.
