Are Netflix secretly playing Harry and Meghan?

H&M think they are dictating the Netflix narrative, but I wonder if Netflix are actually playing a longer game? This was billed as their story, but they are so tone deaf and are exposing themselves to ridicule with their ham fisted attempts to justify their behaviour. It's so full of ridiculous unsubstantiated statements and generalisations with no evidence to back it up. It's using stock photographs of photographers that have nothing to do with them. Why not show real photographers? A ridiculous car chase with a lone photographer on a moped provoking panic and faux fear in the couple is laughable. And as for Harry's face as Meghan takes the piss out of the queen? This was definitely seen by the editors who chose to leave it in.

Will Netflix get a double helping from this series with the candy-floss fluff that's the first airing, with a second being the dissection of this sad and deluded pair?

@Justasec321 There were almost no negative articles until they couple started mud slinging. In the eyes of the media this leaves them open to similar treatment. So shutting up and getting on with the life you said you wanted, makes more sense. Sadly they won't

But you're right the british newspapers are pretty shit.

Princess Diana was not hounded to death by the paps, she died because she chose not to wear a seatbelt.

I really hope that life is kind to you.

What a statement - it is her own fault she died basically.

Humanity is throught the other door.

debbrianna · 11/12/2022 14:44

Seeing that no one ever googles here. Can someone please confirm when Harry announced he is dating Meghan and the date he posted the letter about the racist undertones. Are we imagining things or what?

Works both ways though. Are H&M being kind about William and Kate? Can you imagine your BIL going on TV and effectively saying his brother's marriage to you wasn't a love match like his is but just convenient because you will do what you're told and fit in.

his brother's marriage to you wasn't a love match

I took that to be a reference to Charles, Camilla and Diana.

I think the first talent, the most important talent, that liars should possess, is a good memory.

For example, your engagement over a chicken dinner, then it's outside and finally, although it was a huge surprise, a friend was on standby to film it.

The second thing is to be bright enough not to tell lies that can be contradicted and disproved.

For example, it is silly to tell a lie that The Archbishop will disprove a couple of days later. It is silly to tell lies when there are too many who know the truth.

It is silly to tell lies when there is ocular proof that will contradict you.

If you are a numbty, then a career as a liar is not for you. They have chosen the wrong career.

They are both numb. However, Megan scores over Harry because she is hard faced enough to brazen it out. If she were able to couple this talent with a good memory and selecting lies that couldn't be disproved, then she would be on to a winner.

Sadly, her lack of these talents mean that she has bared her arse in the window of John Lewis.

Seems they were roasting a hicken when he went outside to set up for the propoasl. No friend on standby to film - she filmed it for her firend. She seems very excited.

The wedding thing is pretty clear I think? They had a blessing in private before the ceremony. To THEM, that was the day.

You should watch it- it may help you get things straight?

These threads can be quite jarring and the comments obtuse. It's like a willingness to deny and all the racism will disappear. You may not be racist but other people will be and there are. The evidence is out there as proof. You don't need a rope around someoneos neck with words written on them to prove that it's racist. To pretend, is part of whitewashing and making it seem like nothing is wrong. The far right groups attacking Meghan are from the UK not the USA.

Intense Racism!
The UK went wild praising and welcoming her when she married, including the papers.

There are not racists under every bed. Stop being so pathetic.

She comes across as a nasty woman to me and I very much resent being told that I can't say that about a woman whose father is white and whose mother is black.

It's a Get Out of Jail Free Card when anyone criticizing a person of mixed heritage is told they're a racist. Wearing fucking thin.

Not as thin as your enabling mindset

Like Martin said its not the Klu Kluxklanners you have to watch...

You can talk about Meghan as much as you want. On what constitutes racism you need to stay in your lane.

Harry says he’s doing this for his kids, for when they are older, so they know that he didn’t just do nothing.

I am surprised H&M don’t see how some of this stuff comes across as so vulgar, such as the engagement recordings, sharing the story of the queen first meeting/curtsying, suggesting W&K are little more than an arranged marriage, sharing so many intimate details of their lives etc etc.

Re the curtsy, I think he did recognise in that moment that it would be perceived as her taking the piss. It was uncomfortable to watch.

suggesting W&K are little more than an arranged marriage

I took that bit to be about Charles, Diana and Camilla.

I also remember Markle saying on Oprah that PoW is a good person.

She sucks up to the men and bitches about the women. Typical daddy's girl type. 🙄

It does make that old rumour that she photoed or filmed W&Cs children, which put them on edge, seem more credible. I wonder if she self-filmed in Buck P or Windsor? A quick snap of her and granny?

I was wondering that too. I read somewhere that the Queen had refused to have Netflix filming when she met Lilibet the first time.

There is deliberate race baiting in this thread.

We see you.

Shame on you.

I agree. I thought they came across very well in the doc and it doesn't match the headlines I've seen all week.

i liked them before warching the docuseries. It is well done.
i believe in the long term, they will prevail.
also as i have said before here, their target audience is the us audience and we are loving their stuff.

this was such a silly thing to say and put Justin Welby in a trick position, not as if he could ignore it. I don't understand why she would do that?

ImaginaryDragon · 11/12/2022 15:39

username8888 · 11/12/2022 14:35

@ImaginaryDragon Intense racism? What? The media thought they were the saviours of the royal family and a breath of fresh air. They loved them in the initial period, to a ridiculous extent. This was the period the couple said drove them out of the UK.

Do you not know it is considered hate speech and punishable by law? So there was no 'n' word, as they claim, no overt racism anywhere. In fact a sycophantic idealisation of Meghan.

For the 3 or 4 unpleasant comments (crompton, whatever that is) there were thousands of articles praising her. The internet is different but thats down to twitter etc, so i can't comment on what was printed there. Post Mexit the tone has become very hostile, but that is purely in response to their hostility

So you are are only aware or 3 or 4 unpleasant comments and you don't know what Compton is. Your credentials are impeccable on whether she experienced racism or if racism exist. I am definitely going to dismiss my awareness of this issue for now white people in the public eye long before and since Meghan, lived and shared experiences, empirical evidence, well researched and educated experts, historians and advocates on this topic, and defer to your expertise.

These were not isolated comments and there were definitely more than three of four. They often tried to wrap them as as compliments. These were front page headlines in influential national newspapers, a cartoon of their first born child saw him depicted as an chimp... These are just some overt examples. The most damaging racism is often not overt.

Moxbeal · 11/12/2022 15:42

The "H" is annoying. Sorry Megan but there's only one "H" and he's in Steps! 😅

username8888 · 11/12/2022 15:45

@ImaginaryDragon you are attempting over and over again to derail the thread, which is about how Netflix are playing the couple not how they experienced racism.

No one disagrees with you that racism entered the building when the couple decided to trash their families. But not in the early days. The chimp thing was utterly disgusting but did not appear in a newspapers. If the couple want to take on the internet, good luck with it. Governments, institutions and organisations have and failed. All we can control are newspapers and there has been no overt hate speech because IT IS AGAINST THE LAW

“I was thinking about it, you know our wedding—three days before our wedding, we got married. No one knows that,” Meghan told Oprah. “We called the Archbishop and we just said, look, this thing, this spectacle is for the world. But we want our union between us, so the vows that we have framed in our room are just the two of us in our backyard with the Archbishop of Canterbury.”

Why did she say "we got married"? How can that not be a lie or a huge misunderstanding of what getting married is?
Like most people in the UK was very keen on her and glad Prince Harry had found someone. It is their behaviour since and nothing to do with the fact MM's mother is 56% black and she about 25% that has anything to do with it. I doubt most people in the Uk even knew she was partially black. Even her agent on the netflix show said he did not realise.

Yep, and I wish the person concerned would go away and peddle her hate speech elsewhere.

why do you keep saying 56% black? It’s offensive.

I know everyone will think I am making this up for the purposes of this thread but the church thing actually happened to me.

Our priest was so nervous he went through every single word of the marriage ceremony at the rehearsal. It was just us and close family members there in front of the altar the night before the wedding and I felt a definite tingle go up the spine!

Afterwards, on the way out, my brother said “are you technically married now then?” 😃😃. I don’t know if he was joking or not, or whether I was or not, but it can definitely feel like you are!

torquewench · 11/12/2022 15:59

Im sure someone will correct me if Im wrong but are you not married unless it's witnessed properly and you sign the register in front of a registrar?
