Am shocked Meghan said this…

Ndd135632 · 08/12/2022 09:58

She said: 'Even when Will and Kate came over and I was meeting her for the first time I remember I was in ripped jeans, I was bare foot, like I was a hugger, I have always been a hugger I didn't realise that is really jarring for a lot of Brits.'

'I started to understand that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside, that there is a forward facing way of being and then you close the door and thing OK we can relax now, but that formality carries over on both sides and that was surprising to me.'

What an utterly horrible thing to say about your sister and brother-in-law. I am done with her now. People are DIFFERENT Meghan. We are not all like you you you you.

Also I think while it's a bit out of touch, most people don't have to contend with press intrusion, death threats and the like, nor are most people the son, daughter-in-law and grandchild of the then heir to the British throne. They weren't saying they were left in poverty, but that they obviously needed to be able to afford security and that's why they went to Spotify etc.

ThatEdgyFeeling · 08/12/2022 10:02

Would you have met them for the first time in ripped jeans and barefoot?

No, and most people would not have done this when meeting in-laws for the first time. I wonder what Harry was wearing? Different when you know each other well. I've never seen her in public in ripped jeans or whatever, she should have known better..

I thought it was W&K who came round to their house to meet. Not in laws. I've seen Meghan in jeans lots of times.

ICanBoogieWoogie · 09/12/2022 17:55

Tbh what I’ve seen so far, I like her!

Cornettoninja · 09/12/2022 17:57

They left the RF because they wanted to merch their connections to the RF, and that is why the late Queen said, you cannot be half in and half out. So they left.
The race thing and the RF being unwelcome has been made up afterwards to justify themselves

Thats generally my view too although I’m not sure I’d agree issues were made up as much as embellished and deployed tactically.

ICanBoogieWoogie · 09/12/2022 17:59

I can totally understand why Harry feels so passionate about protecting his family.

What happened to his Mum, hounded by the press! It was sickening.

I like Meghan, I’ve warmed to her in this Netflix documentary. I hope she knows that the British press doesn’t speak for all of us!

LurkingLoitering · 09/12/2022 17:59

If I go out to dinner I don’t dress up to the nines but like to look nice out of respect towards the hostess. I would not expect said hostess to greet me in torn jeans and barefoot

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 09/12/2022 18:00

I'm broadly in favour of the monarchy, loved the Queen, think King Charles is basically a good person and have nothing much against any of the others individually.

Then I think you're naive. From everything I've read the whole theme of the series is to trash the UK, its history, its traditions and M and H are happy to go along with it for the money.

rosemarysalter · 09/12/2022 18:03

Im a working class girl and when I met my in-laws
For the first time, I wanted to present myself well

Bare feet is disrespectful

Hugging somebody you meet for first time is over familiar

That's normal for a Brit. She bulldozed in like a
Lairy yank

She totally misjudged British people and our
Culture

That being said, it's not a crime. She doesn't deserve the hate or certainly the racism

H comes across more humble than she though

TootsAtOwls · 09/12/2022 18:04

They probably didn't want to totally relax around her in case she and harry didn't last.

derxa · 09/12/2022 18:05

I've never seen her in public in ripped jeans or whatever, she should have known better.. The first time we saw H&M in public she was wearing ripped jeans.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-41388418
I thought that she was a bit old to be wearing them but I hate ripped jeans in general.

WarmWinterSun · 09/12/2022 18:07

I don’t usually hug people when I first meet them and am a little shy about personal space, but lots of British people are big huggers! I think Meghan makes some pretty big assumptions. I also think it was perfectly reasonable for William and Kate to be a little wary (if they really were which we will never know). The fact that Meghan is monetising the details of their interactions would prove them right.

Lamaitresse · 09/12/2022 18:07

I know someone who has mutual friends with William and Kate, and apparently they are very down to earth and normal.
I too was shocked by Meghan’s comment, in fact I just got to that bit earlier. She was implying that they were unfriendly, and painting herself as a perfectly open and welcoming person. Basically putting them down in a rather unpleasant and roundabout way.
Personally I don’t think she should have gone there. I don’t know enough about the situation to have formed an opinion about Meghan (live abroad) but this comment did not do her any favours at all.

Lozzie86 · 09/12/2022 18:09

🙄 Christ, I'm not a hugger, if someone went and told people I didn't hug them back, or i gave them a really awkward one, it wouldn't be an attack on my character, it's the truth.

She's explaining she had to adapt! Hardly the devil is she!

PicturesOfDogs · 09/12/2022 18:10

Also with the hugging thing, we’ve seen Kate hug people before, someone posted a video before of her warmly hugging her midwife, so it’s not that she’s a robot.

I think more likely is that she was a bit apprehensive meeting Meghan, as they are private people. Which makes sense as they have to be very guarded about who they let into their lives.

Kate has also worn jeans etc, so maybe she didn’t care what Meghan was wearing. That part seemed like a bit of projection or something.

Maybe Kate just thought she was meeting someone for the first time so made a bit of an effort.

Were only getting one side of the story here, so it’s all just projection

I don't think I'm naive, just comfortable with different voices and views being aired. There's obviously a dark side to the history that needs to be addressed, and other ways it needs to modernise. That doesn't mean I want to throw the whole thing away.

WoMandalorian · 09/12/2022 18:13

Is OP piers Morgan? 😂 what a weird thing to be so offended by lol. Just goes to show that people still love a witch hunt. Used to be Diana. Now it's Meghan. Poor Harry.

Pleezgivemestrength · 09/12/2022 18:14

I dont believe for a nanosecond that she knew nothing of the royals her own family and friends have talked about her fascination with our Queen(late) et al. She is a manipulative narcissist, and a sociopath to boot. She is only happy when you toe the line, otherwise you are out. With the Oprah "interview", she was caught out with a torrent of barefaced lies. With her accusations of racism, she gave no details.who said what, when. The woman is a fake and I only wish she would have done us all a favour and faded into obscurity

fairydustt · 09/12/2022 10:41

I have never heard anyone say 'I don't like Meghan but I don't know why, there is no reason' lol, She comes across as phony and inauthentic, that's why a lot of people aren't fond of her. It started when she claimed to have never heard of Harry 'who is Prince Hazza?'

In the first episode, it explains. Have you watched it?
They had a mutual friend on Instagram and her mutual friend said "my mate Prince Hazza was asking after you" and Meghan was like "who,'s Prince Hazza?!"
Doesn't mean you've never heard of Prince Harry, does it?!
Just that you didn't know who she was on about, could have been anyone on IG ol

Ndd135632 · 09/12/2022 18:16

@WoMandalorian ha no am not Piers! I do find it strange how so many people think that meeting relatives (and not any old relatives) for the first time in ripped jeans and then blasting it all over Netflix about how huggy I am is anything other than nastiness.

OP posts:
bakalava · 09/12/2022 18:16

I think that Meghan's inferiority complex kicked in at that meeting. It must be hard for your future sister in law to turn up in probably a lovely, flattering dress when she is so much taller and slimmer than you. And to make it worse, you have your scruffy, casual outfit and not-so-dainty feet out and make a gregarious grab at them for a bear hug which makes them freeze on the spot. It obviously bothered her a lot to be bringing it up as significant. I would like to have been a fly-on-the-wall.

Galdos · 09/12/2022 18:18

Yes, but ... what else are H & M going to do which will pay for their lifestyle? They need lots and lots and lots of dosh, and as Harry only has an army pension and Meghan maybe some residuals from 'Suits'... what are they to do? Of course H has a few mil from his mother, but as best I can tell from press reports their lifestyle costs not far off a mil each year.

I agree. Meghan likes to portray all of her actions as spontaneous and warm. I beg to differ.

Ndd135632 · 09/12/2022 18:19

@baklava you are probably right there. She never said that W and K said anything. It was totally her own issue but she shouts to the world about it in the show as if THEY got it wrong.

It’s all too easy for H&M to spin their web of lies knowing full well that non of the royals can defend themselves or respond / comment.
