The royal family

Am shocked Meghan said this…

Ndd135632 · 08/12/2022 09:58

She said: 'Even when Will and Kate came over and I was meeting her for the first time I remember I was in ripped jeans, I was bare foot, like I was a hugger, I have always been a hugger I didn't realise that is really jarring for a lot of Brits.'

'I started to understand that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside, that there is a forward facing way of being and then you close the door and thing OK we can relax now, but that formality carries over on both sides and that was surprising to me.'

What an utterly horrible thing to say about your sister and brother-in-law. I am done with her now. People are DIFFERENT Meghan. We are not all like you you you you.

I love that Mishal Husain has used the whole 'recollections may vary' theme. I don't like Nicholas Witchell at all but I actually find it interesting that the BBC are letting him show impartiality for once. Jonny Dymond was on Newscast last night and whilst there was no direct criticism of H and M all the presenters seemed to agree that this couldn't really be accurately called a documentary and they were wondering where the couple would go after this. I think there is a bit of push back from the BBC.

yellowmoosefever · 09/12/2022 14:09

Brits all over the world are not known for their stuff upper lip and their over the top ability to get offended at everything. In a way it's nice because they watch what they say. But there are plenty of cultures around the world where people are more open and frank. You have to get used to it. Nothing wrong with what Meghan said - she said the royal family are very formal. That's a given. What's there to be offended about? If you go looking for offence, you're going to find a million opportunities to get offended about.

After the show and then Harry's book, Spare, is published in January, the couple's "truth" will be fully out there. Will that be enough for them?
Their currency might begin to wane as they struggle with the law of diminishing returns. They may still want to battle royal institutions and the media, but it may turn out that their real battle will be with ongoing relevancy.

I wonder how they will remain relevant. Harry looks so tense and miserable.

One day, Meghan might just turn all that anger that she carries around with her against him, it will probably destroy him.

Sorry but some of the posts on this thread are completely batshit 😂

How on earth have you let this couple get so deep into your head! It's almost car-crash fascinating to watch.

Levels of insanity i have never seen before.
I never knew there were so many secret messages in micro movements, gotta get out my magnifying glass!

And yet ironically, this is exactly the sort of thing M and H need to keep the cash rolling in.

Once people are no longer interested, their source of income dries up.

Also, if it solely about 'sharing their truth' then all six episodes would have dropped at the same time. But that's not what it's about is it?

That you Kate? 🤣

Of course, there is push back from the BBC. They will have been told to by the Palace. Ir do you really think the BBC are impartial.

FlyingToHeadquarters · 09/12/2022 15:16

@beachcitygirl , no I'm not 'Kate', and wouldn't want to be in the situation she is in, it must be emotionally stressful to be at the receiving end of your bitter BIL and SIL's wrath. However, I can imagine she gets the support she needs from her parents, siblings and remaining in-laws, they seem like a close family.

bakalava · 09/12/2022 15:25

I would never hug her, personally.
Excuses, excuses from the people who would excuse all her appalling actions on race grounds.

beachcitygirl · 09/12/2022 15:38

The problem everyone has with Megan is her race & her unwillingness to kowtow to colonial bs.
Good for her.
They both seem so happy unlike the stick up their arse in laws.

I've never got the sense that the BBC particularly supported the RF, and I definitely thought NIcholas Witchell didn't like them (probably because of the Charles comment). After the OW interview I think the BBC just reported the Queen's response and remained quite impartial. This response seems quite different (to me).

What's that the?
Her white race or her black race?

Absolute shitty shite and wearing thin for those with more than two brain cells to rub together....that doesn't include Harry of course who is more to be pitied than laughed at.

What a shame his parents are bothe white, otherwise critisism of him could be laid down to his race too.

Poor Megan-still happy to take a shilling from all "the colonial bullshit"

Whining arseholes.

@Sweetpeasaremadeforbees
I haven't read this thread but are you talking about the 6 o clock news yesterday ?
I was very unhappy with the 'royal' reporter's presentation

And I never expect the BBC to be impartial . I haven't used their news website in years and years

Their coverage of the mournathon was a disgrace . No balance whatsoever. Unless you go full tin hat and think it was designed to sicken people of the 'royals' which I think it did in part !

pilates · 09/12/2022 15:57

Let’s hope the Royal Family do their dignified silence so not to feed the monsters. I wish they would just go and live their fluffy perfect life in America.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/12/2022 15:58

Nope, I couldn't care less about her race, I don't like her or Harry. They bleat on about wanting privacy and then sell their story to anyone who'll stump up the cash. If they were that concerned about privacy they would have disappeared into the background.

JudgeJ · 09/12/2022 15:59

I think that's a very likely outcome, once she's wrung all she can from her couple of years of being badly treated, boo-hoo, by the RF she will toss him aside for her next stepping stone and it's then that he will need the support of his family. She is the epitome of coercive control, look into his sad eyes and compare to how he used to look. He is being made into a pseudo-Angry Young Man for her benefit.

News at six and ten plus Adam Fleming, Katie Razzall and Jonny Dymond on Newscast plus Mishal Husain on R4.

Squamata · 09/12/2022 16:10

It's not a normal family, is it. Marrying into it involves worldwide fame, intense public scrutiny, a fuckload of castles, access to huge wealth. Plus the usual fitting into a family stuff.

If her first meeting with members of the family seemed like she did no more than get off the sofa to prepare, it seems overly casual in relation to the commitment involved.

MassiveSaladWithChristmasTrimmings · 09/12/2022 16:22

I do ponder sometimes if Harry had been the guy bringing her her tea on the set of Suits, if she would have fallen so desperately in love without knowing anything about him.

What an easier life she would have had if only that had been the case but, tragically for her, he turned out be a multi millionaire famous prince.

This has caused her to be the victim of a worldwide racist campaign and forced her to have to tell the world about her private life on Netflix.

She must so regret not even googling Harry. If only she had, she would have tearfully turned away.

ReneBumsWombats · 09/12/2022 16:24

Do you think he'd have fallen for her if she was five stone overweight and had a job stacking shelves in Asda?

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 09/12/2022 16:26

MarshaMelrose · 09/12/2022 12:28

Even when Will and Kate came over and I was meeting her for the first time I remember I was in ripped jeans, I was barefoot

Disdain for the women (Queen, Kate), disdain for low-ranking men (her own husband, her father), but not for high-ranking men (W, Charles). Is there a pattern developing? Own opinion and all that, obviously.

What's wrong with meeting your boyfriend's siblings in your home in bare feet and ripped jeans that are fashionable (I have no idea why - no one looks good in them.) I'd think it would be an informal, relaxed meeting.

Meeting the future king and queen of England is not an informal and relaxed occasion under any circumstances.

A woman in her late 30s should have realized that without being told.

People likening this to meeting their own future in-laws are being disingenuous.

LOL, precisely.

I was very pro-M at first, glued to the wedding coverage, etc. But her making it all about her, manipulating H and airing dirty laundry has disgusted me. She should have found herself a Hollywood boy toy to generate drama with. Ioan Gruffud springs to mind, actually.

Isn't meeting your future in laws always a slightly more formal affair? Can people really not understand why members of the royal family might be slightly less relaxed around their brothers new girlfriend from America who is an actress and might not be with said brother forever (at the early stages you never know) and who might eventually sell stories about them? Trust is earned, not just given

Exactly.

I'd be on guard with her, too, and the tabloids certainly don't care about me.
