Am shocked Meghan said this…

1000 replies

Ndd135632 · 08/12/2022 09:58

She said: 'Even when Will and Kate came over and I was meeting her for the first time I remember I was in ripped jeans, I was bare foot, like I was a hugger, I have always been a hugger I didn't realise that is really jarring for a lot of Brits.'

'I started to understand that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside, that there is a forward facing way of being and then you close the door and thing OK we can relax now, but that formality carries over on both sides and that was surprising to me.'

What an utterly horrible thing to say about your sister and brother-in-law. I am done with her now. People are DIFFERENT Meghan. We are not all like you you you you.

Novella4 if you don't use the BBC how do you know their coverage of the Queen's funeral was a disgrace? There were quite a few long and interesting pieces on R4 about the future of the monarchy, the status of the Commonwealth in the 21st century etc, and they certainly weren't fawning, and numerous BBC presenters and journalists have said that the closer we get to the coronation, the more scrutiny the monarchy will come under.

Because a news service doesn't wholly reflect your particular bias doesn't mean it is biased.

The BBC comes in for a lot of criticism from both sides of every story they present. I've lived in a few places around the world including the US and SE Asia, and have never found a news service that tries as hard to present a reasonably balanced perspective. They don't always get it 100% right, granted, but I'd love to know where you get your news from that it's so much better.

Mischal Husain's comment was..... interesting.

Novella4 · 09/12/2022 16:47

I don't use the news
website - haven't for years
Sorry I thought it'd said 'news website '

I couldn't avoid learning about the tv coverage ! Didn't watch tue ceremonies etc but I saw the complaints and saw the listings

By balance I meant no alternative view - republicanism . There were complaints made

Roussette · 09/12/2022 16:47

Harry looks so tense and miserable

Really? I thought he looked at ease, in love and happy in the first 3 episodes.

Coxspurplepippin · 09/12/2022 16:51

There were plenty of longer form interviews and pieces about the place of the monarchy in the 21st century, lots of academic insight into how the future might look, including republicanism. Those conversations will no doubt increase as the coronation gets closer. If you don't watch or listen I'm not sure how. Valid your criticism is.

He really does. I think certain posters on here are the tense and miserable ones!

OP Harry didn't leave YOU. She didn't steal him away from YOU. Get over it, instead of throwing tantrums over imagined slights like a jilted lover.

milveycrohn · 09/12/2022 17:11

@MassiveSaladWithChristmasTrimmings
"he turned out be a multi millionaire famous prince."
The problem for Meghan is that P. Harry is not really very rich, by some standards. Yes, he inherited wealth from his mother, and it is presumed from his grandmother, the Q. Mum. Otherwise, his income came from the then P. Charles.
She actually says this in the Oprah interview, that there 'is no money'.
(a few million don't really last long if you are spending so much on a massive house, and all that security).
They left the RF because they wanted to merch their connections to the RF, and that is why the late Queen said, you cannot be half in and half out. So they left.
The race thing and the RF being unwelcome has been made up afterwards to justify themselves.

PicturesOfDogs · 09/12/2022 17:19

The one thing I still don’t understand is that they went on record saying they wanted to leave to be financially independent.

But then went on Oprah to complain about being ‘cut off’

How do you square that circle?

FlyingToHeadquarters · 09/12/2022 17:20

Team Sussex is busy this week 😉

diddl · 09/12/2022 17:27

Harry is perhaps rich only as a working Royal-access to lavish living at cut price plus a hefty income.

By many standards he's rich-but not for the lifestyle that they are after I wouldn't have thought.

The coffers need constant replenishing/topping up I would have thought.

I don't think it's Team Sussex, I think it's (mostly) Team Anti-Monarchy/Republican. H and M are conveniently attacking the monarchy on their behalf.

Exactly.

They want the perks and lifestyle without the work and effort.

If they moved into some $250,000 modest American bungalow and focused on their kids & staying out of the limelight, I'd find them more credible.

Makes a change to see some balance on these threads rather than the echo chamber of disgust of the couple where posters are set upon for having a different opinion.

I'm broadly in favour of the monarchy, loved the Queen, think King Charles is basically a good person and have nothing much against any of the others individually. And only 'Team Sussex' in the sense that I like them and disagree with all the endless nastiness. Can't speak for anyone else, obviously!

Can’t speak for anyone else but I’m strictly Team Messy Celebrity Drama.

How comes Rousette and Aspiringmatriarch always post in tandem?

I think because it left them in a vulnerable position in terms of their security at the time when their location was leaked and they hadn't yer found their feet or made any of the deals with Netflix, Spotify etc. Not ideal. Security is very expensive and they will always need it. Im glad they seem to be doing well personally and financially now.

The problem everyone has with Megan is her race & her unwillingness to kowtow to colonial bs.
Good for her.
They both seem so happy unlike the stick up their arse in laws.

Personally I don’t think even Harry likes her that much 😁

Roussette · 09/12/2022 17:40

I don't think $250,000 would buy them even 'a modest American' bungalow in California. And do you think they'd be left to live their lives in peace without constant paps attention. Why shouldn't they live where they want? Who else is dictated to like this in the RF??
Are you happy that SF who left the RF 25 years ago after her divorce lives in 98 acre, 30 roomed Windsor Lodge? I missed the thread saying she should live in a two up two down.

That's not always the case at all. I would guess we're both passing the time on mumsnet at the moment, and we both tend to be interested in royal threads 🤷‍♀️.

Are you suggesting we are the same person? If so, get MNHQ to look into it. I haven't changed my name for over a decade.

I mean, I understand that, but surely before you announce you want to be financially independent, you would have thought of a way to actually do it?

I just don’t get what the plan was?

Seems like a case of ‘be careful what you wish for, as you might get it’

Really shortsighted, especially when so many people are struggling, to go on TV and say all I have is the millions my mum left me.
I think the optics of that were pretty terrible

Aspiringmatriarch · 09/12/2022 17:47

I think the whole announcement thing was a bit rushed - they were trying to negotiate things behind the scenes but then were told the Sun had the story and was going to run it. They were taking a risk but from what they've said, especially in the Oprah interview, at the time it was a matter of some urgency in terms of Meghan's deteriorating mental health.

loislovesstewie · 09/12/2022 17:50

FWIW, I've always believed that despite being divorced, Randy Andy and Sarah are, and have always been, very much an item. I'll leave you to draw your conclusions about how it works.
