It's landed - 3 episodes with what I assume is 3 next week.

OP posts:

People forget the “collaborating” interlude where they were intending to do tours etc, and have moved straight on to accepting their post-Canada narrative.

It’s like this part has been airbrushed out, the truth is they wanted to remain partly in the royal family, because they were told no it’s been turned into they had no choice but to leave because the royal family and the UK are toxic racists who drove them out, I get fed up when people congratulate them on escaping the evil clutches of the royal family, they never wanted to leave at all! they just wanted to use their brand of royalty as they saw fit and all this media storm is revenge for being told no.

Colcat · 10/12/2022 18:58

LadyvictoriaSponge I agree. They wanted a hybrid model where they could be royal but be able to monetise it. That wasn't acceptable to the Queen, understandably, and they decided to move on. They have conveniently forgotten that and now claim they were forced to leave.

Serenster · 10/12/2022 19:20

They never said they wanted total privacy. It's what posters go on about but they never said that

They absolutely said they wanted to get rid of the “public interest” justification for press coverage of their lives though, which amounts to the same thing.

Anyway, this is … awkward. Gabon, one of the newest members of the Commonwealth, and who joined int he last year despite having no history of British colonisation, is unhappy with comments made in the series. Their Ambassador to the UK has said “To think we would sign up blindly to be vassals to another empire is to suggest we are foolish. This is why many in Gabon would feel patronised by these clumsy remarks. We entered the Commonwealth last year with our eyes wide open and hearts full of excitement

bakalava · 10/12/2022 19:22

What's with the novice bride talk 'I wanted the music to be fun. I wanted our first dance to be.." when it is her second 'first dance' which is why she probably had such a good idea.

Colcat · 10/12/2022 19:25

I would like to see a suitably robust interviewer ask Meghan 'If your feelings about the Commonwealth are that it's Empire 2.0 then why did you have the flowers of the Commonwealth embroidered onto the veil for your wedding to Prince Harry as a surprise for him and in recognition of the roles you would both be playing in the Commonwealth?' Perhaps it will be covered in the next 3 episodes.

Colcat · 10/12/2022 19:37

No-one in the public eye can expect to control the narrative completely. It's unrealistic. And if they want to make it about race look at Barack Obama. There were all sorts of accusations about the place of his birth/nationality/religion when he was President. He never commented and just got on with the job. As Michelle said 'when they go low, go high'.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/12/2022 19:40

LadyVictoriaSponge I guess the wanting half in/half out thing has to be airbrushed out, because reminders of it bring up the inevitable question of why they'd want this if the whole thing was so ghastly that it nearly drove Meghan to suicide

From the total lack of answers I can only assume it's just too inconvenient a question - hence the airbrushing

Yes it’s always tumbleweed from the prolific supporters when this issue is raised.

That's very bitchy. Would you say that to someone on MN who was talking about their second marriage?

No. Thought not. Or maybe you would

queenofarles · 10/12/2022 20:29

It’s really not bitchy at all,

ThighMistress · 10/12/2022 21:14

As observed, prolific supporters silent on the Canada interlude, or busy concocting some convoluted excuse.

DragonsAndDandelions · 10/12/2022 21:45

Does anyone think they may add something about Sistah Space in with the release of the next volume? Would it be possible to edit the programme this late in the day? It would fit their racist palace narrative perfectly.

Yes, the negative reviews are because the haterz are obsessed and flooding review sites.

The positive reviews are the 'real' people, not the obsessed fans...

Sigma33 · 10/12/2022 22:58

The reality is that most people can hold the thoughts 'the tabloid press is racist' and 'H&M are hypocrites that only care about racism as it affects them' at the same time, as they are not contradictory.

cyrila · 11/12/2022 12:37

I'm watching the second episode. It should just be called 'Meghan'. It's just a total love fest to her. As my old mum would have said 'if she was made of chocolate she would eat herself'.

WillMellorsHips · 11/12/2022 12:47

Just reading the bit about where her Dad has come out and shown texts which M claimed were from when his phone had been appropriated ...

cyrila · 11/12/2022 13:02

I saw Harry and Meghan in a restaurant in London once. Their security asked people to put their phones away. Everyone left them alone.

I also saw Meghan with another woman having tea. Again, they were left alone (although people were having a good look. She is very very pretty).

In this documentary they give the impression they had no privacy at all. It's entirely a creative narrative that suits them.

Notice it’s all ‘I’ not ‘we’.

Don't think that's odd. My DH bows to my superior dancing skills Grin
He knows I love dancing, he doesn't quite so much, he'd leave all that sort of thing to me.

meinteresamucho · 12/12/2022 00:19

Stuff coming out now with people coming forward to debunk some of their claims. The palace is saying they encouraged Meghan to invite her niece and absolutely didn't advise that she should be excluded. Also denying the stuff about her not getting any preparation but we knew that. When she was first married there were quite a few stories out about how she was getting this or that bit of help and support in her new role. I wondered about it at the time. It kind of looked like they were covering their backs as if they expected to be accused of not helping and supporting her. I put it down to how things had gone with Diana at the time but looking back they could probably see she was always in it to sell her story.

She didn't claim it as a fact though. She was suspicious because he wasn't using familiar nicknames and texting style.

MarshaMelrose · 12/12/2022 02:40

That's struck me as odd too. I definitely remember at the time reports coming from the palace saying they'd encouraged her to ask her half siblings to the wedding. Because when you have troublesome relatives, you want to include them as that way they're more likely to keep quiet.

EsmaCannonball · 10/12/2022 15:47

I haven't watched the documentary so can somebody explain this bit for me? The proposal story has changed from in the kitchen while cooking to an outdoor nighttime picnic. Outdoors at night in November and Harry is wearing a long-sleeved top with the sleeves rolled up and Meghan just happens to be filming at that moment? Were they entirely surrounded by industrial patio-heaters or did the proposal take place elsewhere and they re-staged it to make it look more romantic in the footage of their future reality show? Might explain the discrepancy some people are claiming over the dates and the dog's broken legs. (The one rescue dog she didn't ditch for a rich husband. There is no way I would ever abandon my dog just to get my hands on a man. Not even if that man was Jamie Dornan with £50 notes stuck all over him.)

Well, it’s put a new spin on the MN chicken posts.

Am guessing the new one now is - if you can’t cook a chicken using the power of 15 battery-operated candles in your back garden, then you’re doing something wrong and need to up your game.

BornBlonde · 12/12/2022 03:48

I did think it was weird the proposal seemed filmed! Also the whispered phone. All of 'it's happening"!?

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 12/12/2022 08:17

I thought Finding Freedom claimed that they'd got engaged secretly in August which would explain the whole outside thing.
