Harry and Meghan -- Why I dislike them BOTH

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 03/12/2022 23:02

I keep seeing threads that say everyone who dislikes the Sussexs is based on some form of racism and I wanted to put my view across. I will set the parameters of my points:

  1. Meghan absolutely did receive racist coverage from sections of the British media.
  1. I believe that there were threats to their safety by far right loons.
  2. I believe they were both unhappy as working members of the RF

However...

I still find them both very disingenuous. They highlight and speak up against the racism of others, whilst failing to address Harry's previous and documented racist behaviour. As a Jew I cannot understand how Meghan can just remain silent about her husbands former mistakes. This makes her seem untrustworthy to me and seems like she will put up with anything for money and cache, whilst arguing (rightly) that racism is totally unacceptable. He keeps saying others need to learn and he is right, but he should acknowledge that he too needed to learn, acknowledge the support needed to help others learn and offer that support to others (including his own family, if needed).

Their attitude towards the public also seems 'off' and ungrateful to me and they seem to collocate the press and the public as the same thing. There is a lot of footage of the public support for them before, during and after their wedding. Yet, apparently, they did not want the big public wedding and the 'UK' was racist towards them. Harry particularly understands the 'deal' between the monarchy and the public and ought to have explained this to Meghan, the comments re the wedding on Oprah came across as quite spiteful and tone deaf. Almost like, 'we suffered through the big wedding for the plebs.' Ditto all the strange behaviour around Archie's birth. They could have followed the Tindall's approach if they wanted to avoid press intrusion.

During financial pressures around the world they are still complaining and not acknowledging their wealth and privilege, whilst claiming to give voice to the needs of those living in poverty and suffering. The Africa interview was a prime example for both of them. It just all comes together to make them feel untrustworthy to me, and makes me dislike them. I do not wish them any ill, but I wish they would acknowledge their fortune and live private, useful lives.

I am just sick hearing about them. They've left the country. Harry is making an appearance at the coronation. Bully for him. Disgraceful that he has a four book deal. More muck raking.

And yet you and few others are on every single thread about them 🤔

Whaeanui · 18/04/2023 16:01

People having a different opinion to you doesn’t mean they are being paid. Ridiculous.

You have to not say that kind of stuff, or you get deleted for troll hunting.

I agree, there seems to be some weird reality thing going on here.

Oh no, I'm not thinking trolls! That wasn't my thought process at all. Actually, haven't really thought much about it at all, it's just an impression. I don't know what of, though (not trolls! My troll-dar is quite good on MN!).

Who said anything about being paid?!

Honestly, with posts like these three since my last post, I feel like some posters live on another planet/in an alternate reality. It only ever happens on the Royal Family board, in my years on MN, and only ever wrt Meghan and Harry. There's something off about them, compared to the rest of the forum. It's like deliberate myopia plus vested interests, and a touch of propaganda or PR or some other type of will to influence. So, so weird.

You're doing well, Partyandbullshit, but those who believe, against all evidence, that Meghan is a brilliant women, actor, humanitarian, and Harry - I dunno, some sort of fairy-tale Prince, will report you at every turn. As you say - weird.

Roussette · 18/04/2023 20:03

So do you think @BadgerB the post I highlighted at 14.12... you honestly think that's OK to post about an unknown woman? (as she was at the time)
Honestly? No one deserves that. No one.

I thought more of you.

Actually Rousette, I do think it's OK. The poster described what she saw, and I saw nothing really derogatory in the description. Meghan is a canny woman, she no doubt chose that look because it said what she wanted it to convey.
But I'm sorry to lose your good-ish(?) opinion

Roussette · 18/04/2023 20:20

You saw nothing wrong with a stream of derogatory comments about the way she dressed, the way she waved, boobs thrust forward, veneers, too big heels, ill fitting coat and so on.... a woman she had probably seen for the first time.

Nothing derogatory?? You think it's OK 😲

I would love to know what you consider is derogatory.

Whaeanui · 18/04/2023 20:25

It’s incredibly sexist. Of course it was meant in a derogatory way.

Roussette · 18/04/2023 20:36

I am flabbergasted that anyone thinks those sort of comments are OK. When they don't know the person at all, and it was a first sight of her and that's what you take from it. Shock.

I just wonder how people talk about others in real life they don't know but meet for the first time.

They are factual observations! Or are people only allowed to state positive observations?

mixedrecycling · 18/04/2023 22:46

I don't know the visuals.

Did her coat and shoes fit?

Does she have veneers?

Was it an accurate description of her wave?

If not then it is incorrect. Please correct the description. Accuracy is important.

Partyandbullshit · 18/04/2023 23:45

Google just gave me this. My tech skills aren’t up to loading a video so I can’t evidence all of it, unfortunately. Hope I even manage to do this correctly, Preview is showing a “Sensitive Image?” caption over the image! I don’t think that’s from me? There’s nothing sensitive about the pic, so please don’t think I put it there!

But I would only say such things about a public figure - someone I didn't know, was never likely to know, and who put themselves "out there" for our entertainment. Not about a neighbour or anyone who was likely to care about my opinion of them.

Personally, I thought Meghan looked O.K in that picture - tho' acting up a bit too much for a royal occasion.
Other posters observed more than I did.

Whaeanui · 19/04/2023 07:48

They’re not observations. They’re subjective opinions based on an awkward pose of a woman which are being over-analysed in a bitchy, catty unkind way. Deliberately.

This is nonsensical. People that don’t agree with your conclusions based on your perceptions on someone’s behaviour motivations and decisions are not ‘living in an alternate reality’. It’s incredibly rude to say people here are ‘off’ compared to the rest of the forum, or that our opinions are based on ‘vested interests’ or ‘PR’ ( if we are somebody’s PR we would be paid ). The fact is this board is overwhelmingly negative and anti Meghan and Harry so any pushback at all and the regulars start with this, almost daily, ‘ bots’ ‘PR’ ‘out of touch with reality’ type comments. It’s incredibly childish to think any pushback against the main opinion here is to be looked at with this kind of doubt and scorn. I think it’s far stranger to spend your days repeating the same negative opinions, based largely on tabloid gossip and your own made-up scenarios about someone else’s life and family. It’s like a sport on these boards, and in this country. You live in a bubble and can’t see how others outside it actually view this endless unkind pointless nastiness. This narrative you’re just observing and responding to their behaviour has no validity when Meghan is rarely seen and the comments are based on what the press has told you. Talk about living outside of reality, most of the comments on the board aren’t anything to do with behaviour at all, most are based on what the press has told you and that, that really is not reality. There really isn’t anything unusual or crazy about defending people who have been bullied, whether they’re present or not. They don’t have to be perfect, or a ‘brilliant humanitarian’ or a Prince. They just have to be human, and have done absolutely nothing to me.

As for ‘reporting you at every turn’. I got reported for saying ‘Jfc’. Really. So it goes both ways.

Bambooflowers · 19/04/2023 08:47

I don’t really care what either look like and I personally think Meghan is very attractive, harry is also quite good looking but it’s totally irrelevant.

the fact the palace has handed this so well, saying nothing, only giving positive statements when Meghan and harry have done so so much, the Oprah interview, then the six part series and then spare, and the avalanche of interviews after being derogatory about his own family, and for so much money, makes it look all very one sided and has caused them a lot of reputational damage. It was many stories too far for most people.

it’s made worse by the fact most folks assume, and I suspect rightly, they’ve been negotiating to go to the coronation if they can get positioned highly and the fact they were not has led to Harry doing a duty visit and Meghan giving it the no way, there is no integrity there, if they’d been allowed on the balcony, right up front etc they’d have been full on there with the kids.

it’s just a series of bad decisions. They’ve no career path to talk of. It’s all about the money, the publicity, the fame, the spite. They’ve fully monetised their positions.

I hate to also say it but I suspect Meghan is also doing her own book now, selling rhe same shite harry just did. I really hope not and fhey stop now, but I’m not sure.

Roussette · 19/04/2023 08:48

Well said. And just because posters like me push, back we are not saying Meghan is an amazing woman, brilliant humanitarian and actor. Nope. She's flawed like all of us. But really does not deserve someone dredging up a nearly 6 year old interview with such bitchiness. Why? Just why?

As these women 'put themselves out there for our entertainment' I presume I can talk about Kate, Sophie, Beatrice, Eugenie in the same nasty way? After all... it's just 'factual observations' innit. I must talk about Kate's boobs, Beatrice's veneers, and Sophie's clothes Hmm

It's laughable

mudonmyslipers · 19/04/2023 08:55

I don't think I can actively dislike someone I've never met and don't know personally. All of my opinions would be formed on the basis of what other people (in this case the media) tell me the person is like.

I would personally be pretty upset if people actively disliked me, even though they'd never met me.

Fact is, H&M might be selfish, unpleasant, awful hypocrites. They also might not be. I have no way of knowing for sure.

Or of course it’s a chat forum and folks can give opinions, even though you appear to spend your days policing and acting like a super fan.

Another insult! I have a very normal life outside this thanks. You’re obviously very defensive that I’ve shown your dislike to be based on tabloid gossip and pure fantasy so you attack, which is common practice around here.
