Harry and Meghan -- Why I dislike them BOTH

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 03/12/2022 23:02

I keep seeing threads that say everyone who dislikes the Sussexs is based on some form of racism and I wanted to put my view across. I will set the parameters of my points:

  1. Meghan absolutely did receive racist coverage from sections of the British media.
  1. I believe that there were threats to their safety by far right loons.
  2. I believe they were both unhappy as working members of the RF

However...

I still find them both very disingenuous. They highlight and speak up against the racism of others, whilst failing to address Harry's previous and documented racist behaviour. As a Jew I cannot understand how Meghan can just remain silent about her husbands former mistakes. This makes her seem untrustworthy to me and seems like she will put up with anything for money and cache, whilst arguing (rightly) that racism is totally unacceptable. He keeps saying others need to learn and he is right, but he should acknowledge that he too needed to learn, acknowledge the support needed to help others learn and offer that support to others (including his own family, if needed).

Their attitude towards the public also seems 'off' and ungrateful to me and they seem to collocate the press and the public as the same thing. There is a lot of footage of the public support for them before, during and after their wedding. Yet, apparently, they did not want the big public wedding and the 'UK' was racist towards them. Harry particularly understands the 'deal' between the monarchy and the public and ought to have explained this to Meghan, the comments re the wedding on Oprah came across as quite spiteful and tone deaf. Almost like, 'we suffered through the big wedding for the plebs.' Ditto all the strange behaviour around Archie's birth. They could have followed the Tindall's approach if they wanted to avoid press intrusion.

During financial pressures around the world they are still complaining and not acknowledging their wealth and privilege, whilst claiming to give voice to the needs of those living in poverty and suffering. The Africa interview was a prime example for both of them. It just all comes together to make them feel untrustworthy to me, and makes me dislike them. I do not wish them any ill, but I wish they would acknowledge their fortune and live private, useful lives.

I’m just sad that French and Saunders aren’t working anymore they would do a brilliant piss take - love to see Dawn French in her prime as Meghan!

Maybe the queen didn't want anyone to visit her/see her very unwell. I know my granny wouldn't. 🤷 Queens children would be different but not grandchildren imo

The Queen invited them to stay with her at Balmoral. They declined.

StClare101 · 11/12/2022 09:26

The utterly hypocrisy of these two astounds me. I’ll list just a few as I’m sure it’s all been said by others:
playing the panorama interview despite the fact the interview was landed by deception and shows H’s mother at her most vulnerable.
Saying they are being bullied while clearly bulling the PRincess and Prince of Wales.
Being against the monarchy but keeping their titles (what the fuck??)
Etc….

And I'm sure they had their reasons. It's an invitation not a summons ffs.

I agree with you - so this supports my original point:

“I'm sure Harry knows and loves his grandmother more than anyone on here.”

He loves her so much that during the final painful weeks when she was tending to her husband’s end of life he was happy to land the bombshell OW interview.

And he loves her so much that when she was so frail that the whole world could see he chose not to visit her when he was over from the US in the days before her death.

I doubt that to be the case. Harry said he was the only one she could talk to. Also he said it was important that he checked she was surrounded by the right people. So surely, knowing she was poorly, when she was at her most vulnerable, it would be important he went to check everything out. 🙄

It doesn't support anything. You think you know how it all works. You don't.

Wasn’t the reason they weren’t allowed to take the Netflix cameras?

They are very reductive.
They seem to have reduced their experience to being victims of racism from the RF and British public.

Presumably Hollywood and their celebrity world and the USA have not been racist to H&M as they never seem to speak about that.

I find it annoying to be called a racist any time that I criticise the poor behaviour of H&M but that's as much about their fans as about them I suppose.

On the bright side, away from their very limited fanbase, the vast majority of people can see straight through them.

Well Britain is a country where anyone legally living here and entitled, of any race or creed, can go into a hospital and get an expensive colonoscopy, or other procedure, with expensive equipment, a team of medics, led by a doctor who has trained for seven years - all for nothing beyond their taxes. Do a lot of other countries offer that, please?

Is there any suggestion that the NHS was ever conceived or maintained along racist lines?

It's all very well suggesting British people are inclined to be racist, but the fundamentals of our society and laws are not, and you can't prove the rest of it....because it doesn't exist.

Diverseopinions · 12/12/2022 13:36

Or racism does exist of course, but the majority want to call it out and fight it and our laws are robust.

Worstdilhesaid · 16/12/2022 16:55

When the engagement was announced I remember saying to my friend 'But she's an American, how on earth is she going to do this?'.

They went from long distance to engaged in no time, so she never really had the chance to live in the UK and get to learn the ropes. Crown Princess Mary of Denmark is Australian, she actually moved to Denmark and worked in a normal job for a little while before she and the Crown Prince were engaged. She also had to learn a completely new language!

Interestingly though, Harry did say that they were planning to leave the UK from the very beginning. I wonder what might have happened if they had done that? What if they had had a small private wedding, received no titles and retired from royal duties to live a quiet life in the US without all this drama.

She'd have left him? 😉😁

Glindara · 16/12/2022 21:18

What doesn’t add up for me is that one option of them living in SA then couldn’t happen because it was leaked? Why would it being leaked prevent it from happening?

GeorgeOrwellwasright · 17/12/2022 00:05

It's bizarre how they complain about the media but then keep doing things which are absolutely certain to a) increase the amount of crap the media throw at them and b)put their children in the limelight at risk.

It just doesn't add up.

GeorgeOrwellwasright · 17/12/2022 00:07

Unless of course it's all about making money.

It adds up to $100m precisely

GeorgeOrwellwasright · 17/12/2022 00:14

Yes, when you follow the money it does make sense.

They must think normal people are stupid to think that we're not going to notice such a glaring inconsistency between what they say and what they do.

Australia provides all that. And has robust laws. But there is still a lot of racism here. Sometimes it’s blatant. Sometimes it’s hidden - institutional. And sometimes it even exists in the courts. It most certainly exists in our police forces.

Pugdogmom · 17/12/2022 15:54

I don't hate H and M. I don't know them. I could understand exactly why they left, and they seem to be enjoying bringing up their kids away from the public eye. I also think its a shame that the " institution " is so archaic because they could have done a lot of good. I know the Crown is faction, but appears that they get " told" what yo do and say. Saying that though, the whole documentary turned into a bit of a pity party IMO.
Am definitely not a Royalist, but thinking about William and Charles as their family rather than Royalty, there were plenty of jibes put their way, when H and M know they have really no right of reply.
Some of it baffled me, especially her cutting off her Dad ( Samantha I get). Am not sure exactly what he did wrong, and seems a bit hypocritical when they have told their " truth".
What is sad about the whole thing is that William and Harry who seemed pretty close, have a fractured relationship which I doubt will ever be healed.

roxyro · 17/12/2022 19:44

No way would Meghan live in Africa. She likes the limelight too much. She wants to be a star. She’s manipulated Harry and I dread to think what’s going to become of him because I don’t believe this marriage will last beyond 5 years from now.

@Glindara I didn't understand that either.

Also surely anywhere they went they would have wanted security which would have been exorbitant and difficult to orchestrate?

MarshaMelrose · 17/12/2022 20:17

The commonwealth countries are independent countries. You can't just have a grandchild of the head of the mmonwealth but with no rights over the country, say, hey, I think I'll go to South Africa and represent granny. If it was a serious plan, it would have to have been negotiated with the SA govt first. Discussions on role, living arrangements, cost etc. Once it's leaked that they've decided they're going, it reads like it's a done deal without having soughtpermission from SA which is far from politic. And actually, just rude.
