So does anyone know anything about Earthshot finalists? William and Kate went to Boston because of Earthshot, but all aI have read about is what Kate and William have done in Boston and what Kate is wearing. Why are the press not covering what Earthshot is actually about?

Actually I shouldn't comment on their personalities - they can't help that .

But the cynical PR - ugh

Most wealthy people doing "work" around climate change are cynical PR grabbers.

If you are rich and want to do real charity work, do it around something you care about. Kate would be better off focusing on sports, something she really does seem to care about. The only time she genuinely seems to be enjoying herself is at a sporting event. And she is sporty herself. So promoting sports for physical health fits in with her known interests.

Failing to see what William is really interested in except helicopter flying. Maybe raising funding for helicopter mountain rescue?

The reason Princes Trust is well respected is that Charles did the work to set up something meaningful that does make a difference. It must have been something he cared about as it has never attracted lots of publicity or PR. But plugging on with something you care about and that makes a difference is the way to really achieve something.

Or you do the Gates approach and take loads of expert advice about the best way to use your time and money. It is why they focus on vaccines and specifically malaria. They were advised it was the way to save most lives and make the most difference for the future.

I am not against rich people helping charities, but most are simply helping themselves.

One of Catherine’s charities is the Lawn Tennis Association and she has been involved in getting children to take up the sport .
She is also very involved in children’s charities especially involving early learning and does a lot for East Anglia Hospice ( I have a relative who has met her through that )
William served as an Air Ambulance pilot and donated his salary to charity . He now supports the Air Ambulance Association.

Good that Kate does that with the Lawn Tennis Association. She should do far more with sports, but less posh sports as well. Lawn Tennis is pretty much an upper-class sport.
I know Late is supposed to love under-fives, but she never looks comfortable with under-fives that are strangers and her early year centre is pretty much a joke.
I would have her visiting summer tennis schools run by Local Authorities, the Tennis Centre in Nottingham, and other sports where she has a genuine interest.

William was famously lazy as a pilot working few hours. It needs to be something he is interested in and will put time and energy into. I am guessing flying helicopters for fun is different from working on an air ambulance. I know he likes sports hunting, but it can't be that for obvious reasons. But does he love other outdoor pursuits?

Anyway I am sure you get my point.
I think climate change is always a hard topic for anyone rich to work on without looking like a total hypocrite. If you choose this you have to throw yourself far more into it than they would be prepared to do.

It si why Harry's Invictus works. It is not a cause I acre about, but he obviously does and threw himself into it. His energy, enthusiasm and work show. It is why he got kudos for it even though it is less important than children's early years or climate change.

Wow , I have never been called upper class before because I used to play lawn tennis !

It's called green washing

So, an initiative that involves helping entities with proven practical solutions to issues of climate change and the environment to upscale and make a difference worldwide, is greenwashing? Even taking the royals out of the equation?

antelopevalley · 05/12/2022 11:01

@Readinginthesun I have no idea what class you are. But lawn tennis courts do not even exist in most poorer towns and cities.

Err, yes they do. Most schools will have a tennis court marked out on the playground and include tennis as a PE activity. Lawn tennis doesn’t have to be played in grass or at a tennis club.

smilesy · 05/12/2022 11:30

*On grass. And many multipurpose outdoor playing areas will be marked for playing tennis. And leisure centres.

Oh, and the Princess has visited the LTA centre in Nottingham previously, see Here. And also Here at a primary schoolwhen she was pregnant

Persimmo · 05/12/2022 11:45

Anything that highlights the climate crisis and good ideas - ingenious ideas to slow the rate of this planet’s destruction is a good thing, no matter which royal does it. If you must fly private jet, and I can’t think of a reason you must personally, then even if you’re accused of being a hypocrite, you might as well use your platform such as it is to still bang on about the environment. What’s the point in NOT doing that.

they have tried to mitigate the effect of the actual
prize giving according to a couple of sources.

That says she visited a centre in London. Great but she needs to get out of London.
And doing a visit while pregnant is what I would expect. We all worked when pregnant,

Read it all. She went to a primary school as well. I wasn’t praising her particularly because she was pregnant, just giving a time frame 😊. Anyway I was answering your point about her not being involved in grass roots tennis. This is getting tedious anyway. Every time someone counters one of your issues, you are just moving the goal posts.

antelopevalley · 05/12/2022 12:27

@smilesy I think visiting the National Tennis Centre in London was fine. But no it was not what I suggested. I was suggesting visiting summer schemes for children teaching sports like tennis. Loads of cities do this. I was thinking of the typical summer scheme on council tennis courts and ordinary children.

OP posts:
smilesy · 05/12/2022 12:53

Wtf? I also linked to her playing tennis in a London primary school. Here’s another link where she zoomed the school to ask about their tennis and had Andy Murray as a surprise guest. She had previously visited in January 2018 as per my previous link. She might well visit summer schools in the future, idk. But you are really splitting hairs to say she is not involving ordinary children in this. Find something els to complain about.

Op, why so much hatred towards the POW? Its unhealthy.

Also, do you have a job? Or are you ‘taxpayer funded’? Genuine question.

if the former, I imagine your employer is getting poor value for money. Or perhaps you’re employed by Team Sussex? In which case, your employer is still getting poor value for money, because these threads are ridiculous.

SallyLockheart · 05/12/2022 13:07

There is a definite Meghanesque level of vitriol and hatred towards the Princess of Wales from the OP

antelopevalley · 05/12/2022 13:33

I work for a private company and consistently overachieve my objectives.
No hate towards Kate, I don't know her, she is a stranger. I think Kate is probably a perfectly nice privileged woman. William, I am not so sure about that.
I dislike the Royal Family as an institution. But Charles in spite of doing far more negative things than William and Kate ever have i.e. cash for honours, affair and divorce with Diana, etc has better press as he seems to be better at the PR side.
All Kate really does wrong is be a bit lazy and out of touch. This is very small fry within the Royal Family. But she and William seem terrible at PR.
A good example is Williams's statement - we are very much not a racist family when he could easily have said something bland instead. Now every time the Royal Family does something racist that statement is repeated, even when it has nothing to do with William. But by repeating his statement it cements the idea of racism with William.
Just a small example. But I admit I am fascinated at how bad William and Kate are at PR versus how good Charles and Camilla are at PR. The contrast is quite astounding.

How dare you release a trailer on the day of my OsCaR sUpEr bOwL moment 😡I'm sure Netflix are shaking in their boots.

I can't wait to see how he fights back 😂the utter clown.

Are you ok?

Furries · 05/12/2022 15:01

Genuine question. Why do people sometimes post sentences with a weird combination of upper/lower case letters? I see it quite often across MN, but can’t work out what the significance is.
