So does anyone know anything about Earthshot finalists? William and Kate went to Boston because of Earthshot, but all aI have read about is what Kate and William have done in Boston and what Kate is wearing. Why are the press not covering what Earthshot is actually about?

Every single article is all about what Kate wore to the awards ceremony, that Kate and William flew commercial, that Meghan and Harry are "stealing their thunder".

But someone else suggested that Earthshot is independent and all William has to do with it is to turn up at a few events. If that is true then the Royal Family are not really involved in it except William as a nominal figurehead. But I still question the value and the way it is run

The same is true of the excellent Invictus. Do you question how that is run? Presumably both are independent because of the need for experts in their fields to be involved in the day to day running. ThIs also presumably applies to the Prince’s Trust.

It’s like the Royal variety show - or Catherine’s carol concert. Filmed in advance, edited into a TV production, released at a later date. Perfect normal production plan.

Edward and Sophie were featured last week attending the Royal Variety show, but it won’t be on tv until later in the month. It accordingly gets coverage both when filmed, and then reviewed and commented on when released.

@smilesy My point is that if all William does is appear at a few events a year, then any criticism of Earthshot is not a criticism of him. It is a criticism of whoever is running Earthshot. So all the posts about the costs of running the charity, the fact that the finalists were not even at the ceremony, is nothing to do with him.
William literally turns up about twice a year, says a speech and shakes a few hands. If he gets that wrong he should be criticised, but the rest is nothing to do with him.

Okay I will see if there is more media coverage of the finalists afterwards.

@smilesy Thanks. It is the first time I have seen it. I did not know it existed.

I think it was absurd to invite and presumably pay celebrities to perform and not have the finalists or winners there. So just another free party for some people to go to.

I've organised charity events where celebs were paid and others with celebs who freely gave their time. They're all worthwhile and unless you're on staff or the board, you won't know which is which.
Earthshot is a great initiative.
If you really just wanted to complain about the RF (although tbh you never complain about certain members of the RF 🙄) then start a thread about how you don't like W&K and be done with it but don't trash an event, award and projects that deserve recognition. That's just petty. You're better than that. And the finalists deserve better than that.

@AndEverWhoKnew I would complain about Harry and Meghan if they were paid by taxpayers. As I have said many times, I pretty much ignore celebrities who make their own money.
I agreed that Harry and Meghan could not continue to be funded in any way by the taxpayers.

Why do you not think it worthwhile? It is supporting initiatives that are finding solutions for change. How is that not worthwhile?

what if we remove W&K and add H&M instead will it change your opinion ? Will it make it more worthy?

i personally am not a huge fan of these initiatives , the damage is greater than these small steps these initiatives take , but maybe these small steps will decelerate some of the damage.

All the winners have been fantastic. Such clever ideas and some are very simple.
love the idea of reseeding seaweed everywhere in little seed bombs. Ties in with the seaweed repackaging , maybe they should get together.
love a female ranger network too and the emphasis on sea grass , clearly an important ecosystem everywhere

I agree that the damage is great, but we do have to start somewhere and give people hope. It is surely much better to do something rather than just jump up and down and complain. As you say, it’s better than doing absolutely nothing

I think there was an example of two initiatives from the first Earthshot linking up. It was posted elsewhere I believe
