So does anyone know anything about Earthshot finalists? William and Kate went to Boston because of Earthshot, but all aI have read about is what Kate and William have done in Boston and what Kate is wearing. Why are the press not covering what Earthshot is actually about?

They're not wrong about the timing are they though. The ceremony was known about months in advance. The Netflix 'drop', in a pathetic attempt to upstage William and Kate, has removed the focus from the awards, and people who have spent years working on ways to try and mitigate the climate crisis.

We know you don't like the Royal Family Hmm but how about a little thought for the imaginative, inventive ways in which groups from all over the world are trying to make a difference to the planet, now overshadowed by a pathetic attempt to garner publicity for a vanity project.

Charles had an ITV documentary premiere and no one complained! why should H&M have to dim their light for others? is it their fault that the papers would rather breathlessly report (read abuse) them than pay attention to William's vanity project? Why don't they take it up with the paper editors? why couldn't they ignore Harry and Meghan and stick to William and Kate?

Are you telling me that Netflix, H&M personally put a gun to the head of the media to report on them??

H&Ms show comes out on the 8th, releasing trailers a week before is customary. i'm glad Netflix went ahead and did their thing.

William is a pathetic cry baby.

And what's shocking to me is that in the same article, the editor couldn't be bothered to give attention to the finalists. It was more about complaining on William's behalf, tell me where the priority lies again?

Coxspurplepippin · 04/12/2022 08:20

It's not about dimming anyone's light. It's about the increasingly ridiculous attempts by Harry, Meghan and their collaborators to throw shade on the Royal family . It's now starting to come across as really spiteful and judging by comments about the Netflix documentary, people are starting to notice and they are losing any credibility they may have had.

Actually I don’t see it that way. I don’t think that Netflix dropping the promo took any focus off Earth Shot. I suspect public interest has been stirred in both. Both got great media coverage. And also, social media interest seems huge. Some of it for the wrong reasons, but the existence of earth shot is pretty well known now.

I was very excited about the earthshot awards. What it will encourage.

Although, honestly, I was a bit perplexed about the money given to the awardees towards their projects. $5 million dollars in total between them? It’s great to draw attention to earth saving initiatives/inventions, but frankly the amount seemed paltry given all the big names involved.

Perhaps this is more than a once a year thing? Does anyone know? Have I misunderstood and are these actually prizes for awardees for themselves, rather than to be put towards their initiatives/inventions?

Throwing shade by releasing a documentary that's been in the works for years? that's pretty desperate. Whatever credibility H&M are losing, so are the RF losing in spades. Exposed as racist once again, they will never beat those allegations.

There were all sort of significant events going on that week, the French state visit for example and you don't hear them complaining about being upstaged by. nearly 60 second trailer, like i said utterly pathetic.

William and Kate have spent the past two days crying, shaking and throwing up, it's almost funny. iT'S wAr, tHeRe's no CoMinG bAcK, wILliAm wIlL fIgHt baCk 😂LOOOL

Also, pray tell, how do you hold an award ceremony without the finalists in attendance? i heard talk of carbon footprint, so why didn't W&K save theirs by staying at home? they flew out green carpets, Beckham and Ellie Goulding 😅

They want to America for self-promotion, they got found out, got overshadowed. May they remain bitter about it. Did you hear the Boston globe call the event a taping for a reality show, attendees who didn't understand why they were there, attendees who were present to see their fave musicians, what a shambles 😆

StormzyinaTCup · 04/12/2022 08:52

William is a pathetic cry baby

Comedy gold🤣🤣
His brother is currently having the longest public tantrum ever seen, now that's pathetic.

SallyLockheart · 04/12/2022 08:54

@Morestrangethings the event is being used as a launchpad for further networking and investment. Eg one of last years finalists Pristine Seas has received a $20 m investment from Bezos foundation so it has promoted them quicker than it might have done otherwise.

DorritLittle · 04/12/2022 08:56

Crying and shaking? Righto.

Thankyou SallyLockheart. Good to know. That certainly indicates Earth shot is going to be effective.

Is that why William sent his Earthshot board members to complain to Netflix? 😂

How dare you release a trailer on the day of my OsCaR sUpEr bOwL moment 😡I'm sure Netflix are shaking in their boots.

I can't wait to see how he fights back 😂the utter clown.

LOOOL so it's not Earthshot, it's Bezos 😭

The amount of people slating a good cause just because the royal family is involved is pathetic 🙄

SallyLockheart · 04/12/2022 09:18

@tatala So? What difference does it make. Earthshot doesn’t have that sort of funds but what it does is give the winners and finalists the platform to reach other investors? Can you quantify what difference Archwell has made to any of its causes. Earthshot has awarded prizes of £5m each year whilst we do know Archwell has given Starbucks coffee vouchers to one of their causes

IAmTi · 04/12/2022 09:59

Some seaweed plastic I think. Very interesting. Can be eaten.

StormzyinaTCup · 04/12/2022 10:00

Has PW gone public with this? No
Will he still be wanging on about it two years later? Likely not
Have the P&PofW been coached in this type of behaviour? Yes probably, M&H behaviour is textbook.
Were they surprised this happened - likely not, see above point.
Are they playing the 'when they go low, we go high' - yes certainly looks like it
Are they coming across as the classier couple at the moment - yes

I'm not a royalist just speaking as I see it.

Classier in whose eyes? did you miss the declaration of war? the claims that William will fight back? the tantrums he's throwing. He's a sad sad man.

AndEverWhoKnew · 04/12/2022 10:17

There were lots of serious articles about Earthshot and the winners eg Sky, The Guardian, the BBC, Independent, etc.
Some of the projects are very exciting and it's great the winners are so diverse. The seaweed packaging is fab and the Australian women' conservation project will have massive impact. I read an interview with the woman behind the Kenyan project too.
There is lots of innovative work going on and the fact the prize includes so many grassroots projects is one of the best aspects imo.

SallyLockheart · 04/12/2022 10:22

I thought the Kenyan stove project was fabulous- easy and to scale up and is particularly an innovation that benefits women.

I think, despite attempts to steal the limelight, the Earthshot awards have been very successful, it’s an extremely worthwhile project and the P&PoW appear to have been warmly welcomed. A job well done.

Yes, I liked that one a lot.

AndEverWhoKnew · 04/12/2022 10:29

Yy there was a real focus on empowering women, disseminating training and the ability to scale up.
It's always been hard to get publicity for this kind of work so global recognition and funding is amazing. And well deserved.

Snnowflake · 04/12/2022 12:00

It sounded great to me a million pounds to each winner.
the article I read in the Times said Netflix seniors were questioning the rivalry - if W and K are around stands to reason media will look out for a H &M opportunity - sad -it’s all about $ for Netflix et al.

If someone putting out a trailer for a Netflix documentary gets you riled up, then what you are doing is not that great anyway.
Every single award show ever always "competes" with a million and one other thing happening that attracts the media.

I hope it does help the winners, but I do not agree it has done its job. Every single article is all about what Kate wore to the awards ceremony, that Kate and William flew commercial, that Meghan and Harry are "stealing their thunder".
The awards will be a success when the media talks about the shortlisted finalists and the winners, not Kate and William.
And the concept of an awards ceremony with celebrities there but none of the actual people getting the awards, is beyond absurd.

I want the monarchy abolished. But I always give credit where it is due. It is why I always defend the Princes Trust as it is a great charity that makes a real difference to young people.
Awards shows are a funny beast. Very few make any real difference to the larger world, but are simply pats on the back for the winners. If you want to do more than that you have to plan them and execute them very carefully.
But someone else suggested that Earthshot is independent and all William has to do with it is to turn up at a few events. If that is true then the Royal Family are not really involved in it except William as a nominal figurehead. But I still question the value and the way it is run.
