That seems to be the main talking point from the press. It has been referenced by PageSix and the Today show in America.

William and Kate’s US trip highlights how they’re not Harry and Meghan

But William didn't say it.

Of course, he didn't but this line has been repeated in publications ranging from the Telegraph to Page Six. All these sources just happen to be parroting the same statement? It's a bog standard palace briefing.

Who knows, it may very well be that for him.

Then antelope was right to apologise when she said he'd said it. (Sorry antelope. I admire people who say sorry so not having a go at you.) Why are you saying she wasn't wrong when you agree he didn't say it?

I have no idea what your last sentence means.

🙄Yes But No But ..

No one in this country would be chatting about Biden coming here and he's the leader of one of the two most powerful countries in the world. Even Obama, who was popular, wasn't talked about before his visit

Gosh...I must read very different news sources to you! Obama was constantly talked about before his two visits here, it was a big deal. It was State visits. He addressed Parliament from the Gallery and there was much speculation about that.

Not before he came. What would they report on? When he got here, his visit followed the same pattern as Ramaphosa's - no carriage, though. (Although I think the Queen let his kids have a golden carriage ride. Sweet. )

We'll agree to differ. I remember differently but it could well be because I was a big fan of the Obamas so I caught more about it prior to his visit.

I wonder if people who are comparing it to a Superbowl have ever actually seen a Superbowl. It's such an odd sort of hyperbole.

I also thought it a bit odd, especially as the big event is near Fenway which is a baseball stadium.

But you never know - maybe there will be an incredible half-time show with fireworks and accidental nipple-revealing :-)

Well now I want to watch! 🤣

Didn't William and Kate fans say the same thing about the state dinner? It's quite fascinating they can't enjoy W&Ks moments without projecting on another couple living their own lives.

When I saw Montecito trending during the State visit, I realised W&K would never be enough. It's the hate for Meghan that's number one in their minds.

It will be interesting to see who they meet on their visits. Will they meet Biden or Caroline Schlossberg

I wouldn’t expect the WP/NYT to be full of coverage as they’re not courting controversy, just giving out awards to worthy winners

here is an article. It’s a pity that it’s been dragged down by the H&M ‘allegations’

Ohnonevermind · 30/11/2022 07:30

There are articles in the NYT too, so the poster who said there was no coverage seems to be mistaken

its a pity H&M are being inserted into the story by the US journalists, I wonder what they’re being fed

MarshaMelrose · 30/11/2022 09:19

I don't see why they'd be fed anything. Kerry Kennedy was under pressure and justified the award by putting the racism thing out there. I guess she had her reasons. Harry hasn't refuted anything so he must be happy with what she said.
It's inevitable that the papers would connect the two Kennedy branches and the two brothers. Ut I'd think the RF would be used to salacious gossip. Now's the time to see if W&K have enough star power to overcome the negativity that could greet them.

What pressure would that be? They could have just not awarded it. As it stands, H & M are being 'rewarded' by people with an agenda for their bravery against 'structural racism' in one of the very few countries in the world that has actually taken steps to eradicate this very form of racism from its structures by introducing equality legislation. This contrasts prominently with, say, Nigeria, which has just banned non-Nigerians from appearing in any TV advertising, which is structural racism if ever there was any. As they say - "You couldn't make it up".

antelopevalley · 30/11/2022 10:11

@MaulPerton You might have a point if the Royal Family had to follow the law. The Royal Family are exempt from equality legislation.

MarshaMelrose · 30/11/2022 10:19

What pressure would that be? They could have just not awarded it.

The simple truth is all these awards are on a self-congratulatory circuit where charities feed off each other to get publicity. It seems distasteful to me. But clearly it's a cultural thing and Americans obviously like it.
Kerry's brother started to query what they'd done to deserve an award and appear on the same stage as Zelensky. The media picked it up and started to ask questions. The Kennedy foundation was never going to withdraw the award - that would make them look even more ridiculous. So Kerry gave the press release she did, and Harry has gone along with it. Maybe he feels he does righteously deserve it having fought the system and lived on his dad's dime so bravely. Or maybe he wants the money and accolades. (I wonder if the clothes they wear to these ceremonies come out of expenses.)
Whichever, William and Kate are going to have to live with Harry weaving his way through their lives forever. Much like George VI had to put up with his embarrassing brother. So they need to learn to deal with the flak which he will always throw their way in order to keep his usp alive.

Croque · 30/11/2022 10:21

No megawatt smile on the way to The Marriott, IN today (where she arrived by private jet)?
It really hits home how much H has had to sacrifice to support a set of delusions. H could have been up there with K & W on a proper global platform, not just one which exists because anybody can upload anything onto the Internet.
Still, there are always fake trophies to be won from fake polo matches.

Croque · 30/11/2022 10:23

He also pointed out that the last person to receive it was Dr Fauci so it may be a slight improvement 😀

antelopevalley · 30/11/2022 10:23

@Croque Do you listen to yourself? Who cares? We are not funding the awards. If donors or companies want to fund this it is up to them.
I put both events in the same self-congratulatory box.

I think there wasn't that much coverage ahead of the event, but I expect that'll change once the events of the visit are underway

EdithWeston · 30/11/2022 10:40

antelopevalley · 29/11/2022 11:12

Why do they have to do this in the US anyway? The US is not a colony. It is an ex colony but that was a long time ago. Why not just have this event in the UK?

Because it's a global award (no reason for it to be in any particular country) and it's a tie-in to JFK's Moonshot

Croque · 30/11/2022 10:44

It is not a proper lengthy state visit - just a fleeting visit. I don't expect there to be much coverage and that does not prove anything either way. They are not trying to turn themselves into celebrities or win over American hearts.

antelopevalley · 30/11/2022 11:12

It would have made more sense to be in the UK.
I hope this time there is going to be more coverage of the winners. Everything so far has been about William and Kate which is not what the focus should be.
