Are you ready for William and Kate's Superbowl moment in America?

That seems to be the main talking point from the press. It has been referenced by PageSix and the Today show in America.

William and Kate’s US trip highlights how they’re not Harry and Meghan

It’s a global awards, inspired by jfk who was born in Boston.

antelopevalley · 30/11/2022 11:12

It would have made more sense to be in the UK.
I hope this time there is going to be more coverage of the winners. Everything so far has been about William and Kate which is not what the focus should be.

It’s a global event .
According to some posters there hasn’t been any coverage !?

antelopevalley · 30/11/2022 10:11

@MaulPerton You might have a point if the Royal Family had to follow the law. The Royal Family are exempt from equality legislation.

@antelopevalley That would be a very good point were it not being applied to the issue of structural racism. Given that what you describe applies to a vanishingly small number of people - the royals and a handful of diplomats - the racism that is being spotlighted by this award is, in fact, not 'structural' at all. At best, the 'one of my in-laws may or may not have said something to me' situation that they are receiving the award for is, at best, an idiosyncratic family matter. I think that this may be another one of those archetypes/stereotypes problems that has plagued M. Looks like Kerry suffers from the same.

Croque · 30/11/2022 11:48

Funnily enough, in the final episode of Archetypes, she finally uttered the word "stereotypes". I do believe that she has taken the time to read up on the difference online. I am still not convinced that she has properly understood what she may have read. I find that it is a general problem among a particular profile of influencer, should I say.

The argument is that it is structural racism within the institution of the Royal Family. It is an institution not an individual or series of individuals. The institution is exempt from equality law.

There has been some low key coverage. I'm in the US and I read several news sources online every day. I first heard about the visit from the MN royal fashion thread. I have since looked up reports about it. But you have to look. It's not right up front in news coverage.

The most important topics today in news sources I read : the Senate has passed a protect-same-sex marriage act, the US beat Iran in soccer, and the Georgia Senate run-off heats up.

antelopevalley · 30/11/2022 12:05

And no one ever said there was coverage at all.

Ohnonevermind · 30/11/2022 12:32

@antelopevalley

how have they made the converage all about them ? what have William and Kate actually done ‘to make it all about them’ is William taking about being inspired by JKF ‘making it all about them’ please elaborate

It’s not like they did daily Mail sad faces at an Oprah Winfrey interview

Ohnonevermind · 30/11/2022 12:45

@antelopevalley

A poster listed off American newspapers which she had subscriptions to (including washington post and anyt) and said there was no coverage, I was merely pointing out there was coverage.

While RFK junior said h&m were better than Fauci -JFK is a prominent vaccine denier so that bar was set very low

But, if they are defining 'an in-law may or may not have said something and I can't really remember when' as structural racism, then there's an issue, isn't there, because that is not structural at all. I would like to see a definition of 'structural racism' that they are using as a basis for this award because, so far, what all three of them have succeeded in doing is tie themselves up in knots.

onlylarkin · 30/11/2022 15:52

WinnieTheW0rm · 30/11/2022 10:35

I think there wasn't that much coverage ahead of the event, but I expect that'll change once the events of the visit are underway

I was not mistaken and it was confirmed by several US based posters.

Looking at today's US mainstream news, not gossip rags, this is the first Royal news I could find.

I think Americans are more interested in the confirmation of racism.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 30/11/2022 16:07

Barf.

Do you know what? If the Palace hadn't been so diehard in blowing smoke up these two's asses for years, then I might have been interested.

But all this chat about not putting a foot wrong and the weird Superbowl reference that they keep banding around-it all puts me off. There's no underdog element, no sense that they've worked especially hard to achieve anything substantial. It's just fluff fluff fluff.

Kate will show up and smile in a gorgeous dress.

Wills will look moderately disinterested and then they will go home. Job done.

Ohnonevermind · 30/11/2022 16:16

I also have subscriptions to US publications, the Washington post and NYT. There are are articles about the upcoming trip. I don’t know what you linked to, but it is not a broadsheet newspaper

WinnieTheW0rm · 30/11/2022 17:14

Whilst thinking about members of the royal family in the USA, I wonder why the Sussexes chose today to release a new picture of Archie?

(apologies in advance if it wasn't actually today - it's just that today is the first time I saw it)

Not sure about when that photo was released ( assume you mean the one with Doria too ?) but they have also released a video of them playing table tennis . I kid you not 🤷‍♀️

Do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound 🤣

Probably as ridiculous as you sound. Firstly for calling it a carton when it's a box, and secondly for wanting to throw one at people you don't even know. Sounds like you're jealous of them tbh.

Well, you sound even more silly now - if you're going to insult people on their choice of nouns, at least try to insult the poster who actually used them.

If my original message wasn't even to you, sounds like you didn't need to get involved. Have a wonderful rest of your day :)

"Get involved"? I'm just replying because you quoted my agreement with somebody else.

roarfeckingroarr · 30/11/2022 18:01

Kate would still be perfect even with an empty carton/box hanging off her and fried onions in her hair. She is all the elegance.

She does carry herself beautifully and always looks so happy to be there and meet people. That video of her, the young boy and the poppy was gorgeous. She has a lovely way with children.
I'm not the greatest lover of her clothes style, I often prefer Meghans daywear, but I'm excited to see what she wears in Boston.

ajandjjmum · 30/11/2022 20:25

Didn't everyone at the Earthshot awards last year dress in a re-wear, so presumably it'll be something she's worn before?

Or I might have imagined that! Grin

MarshaMelrose · 30/11/2022 20:59

Very low key start in all that black. A bit of colour would have been a nice contrast.

Her suit was navy .
