The royal family

Are you ready for William and Kate's Superbowl moment in America?

That seems to be the main talking point from the press. It has been referenced by PageSix and the Today show in America.

William and Kate’s US trip highlights how they’re not Harry and Meghan

@Discoh would you be happy if they threw things at Prince George or Princess Charlotte

The vitriol on this thread towards the Wales is very odd. Confused

Bizarre isn't it.

You really think you did something there 😂

Pallisers · 28/11/2022 20:12

it is a minor piece of feel-good news here. Not sure why this seems impossible to believe. I subscibe to the washington post, new york times, boston globe and listen to NPR. Only the boston globe carried a piece about it today which makes sense as they are coming to Boston. I don't know anyone in the US who doesn't have pleasant and benign feelings toward them if they think about them at all but, no, there won't be, as the OP said, a Diana like frenzy.

CathyorClaire · 28/11/2022 20:41

I think it's massively hypocritical to jet (privately?) many hours in order to finger-wag at the rest of us over climate change.

Do as I say and not as I do as ever.

Same as you with your initial post advocating it?

AreYouDoingaDessert · 28/11/2022 20:45

Now seems a good time to post this for those who like spreading spiteful rumours. Perhaps if no one has ever looked at you adoringly you don't recognise is when you see it.

They are certainly not alone doing that !

Yes, I'm 2 hours north of Boston and the Portland Press Herald doesn't seem to have run anything either. It's just not particularly big news.

Serenster · 28/11/2022 21:02

Well, quite.

Data from FlightRadar24 shows 36 private jets landed at Sharm el-Sheikh between 4 and 6 November, the start of the COP27 summit.

A further 64 flew into Cairo, 24 of which had come from Sharm el-Sheikh.
The COP27 website says delegates should use either airport.

Nine of the flights came from the United Kingdom, with others from European countries including Italy, France, and the Netherlands. Two were from the US - one from Atlanta and one from Washington DC.

One aspect to having some longevity to a system such as a monarchy is that it allows individuals to showcase admirable characteristics such as stoicism, tenacity, reliability and consistency, if they possess them. I am getting that impression about these two.

CathyorClaire · 28/11/2022 21:07

I know, hence the 'as ever'.

It will undoubtedly be interesting to see how the Harkles blow in to their gig 😶

CathyorClaire · 28/11/2022 21:10

And should add I finally agree with Serenster too 😁

All of it entirely nauseating.

They are in Boston where I live for 3 days this week and I don't know one person who is aware of it - or cares. We had several thanksgiving get togethers this weekend (including two english people and a couple who lived there for a few years during the Diana years) and no one mentioned them. I hadn't realised until a small piece appeared in the boston globe today. I'm sure there will some coverage by the news but frenzy ...

I'm American in the US. The only place I've heard anything about this visit is on MN.

Same for me. No vitriol at all. I'm interested to see what Kate wears. And there is no frenzy.

Indeed. No idea why the OP expected 'frenzy' of any kind.

onlylarkin · 28/11/2022 22:57

I love seeing photos of Catherine and William and I will be honest, I want to see what she is wearing too.

Other than someone suggesting throwing something at them, I am not seeing much vitrol on this thread. Just a conversation about how, in the US, their visit will not be Diana level frenzy like the OP suggested.

If I were in Boston, I may go and try to catch a glimpse but then again maybe not. I didn't set my alarms for anyone's wedding either.

YesIReallyDoLikeRootBeer · 28/11/2022 23:12

It's funny to see the person arguing that it IS a big deal in the US, with people who are actually in the US and know that it is not at all. I live 45 minutes north of Boston. I heard a small mention of them coming to Boston on the news but didnt even realize it was this week until I read it here. People here really, honestly dont care.

onlylarkin · 28/11/2022 23:57

People in the US could not care less about the royal family. None of them. Even if they live here.

There are some people, like me, who are royal watchers and enjoy the discussions. But they aren't any different than movie stars to us. Rich, out of touch with the real world, and we use them for entertainment then go back to our own lives. What they do/don't do has no bearing on us. As long as they are self sustaining, we will live and let live.

What a peculiar thing to post on Twitter.

A montage of a couple looking at each other!

Everyone in happy marriages could put together something like this if they had photographers following their every move!

The positivity from these two is quite refreshing, though, is it not? I think that's what people are enjoying.

It's quite nice knowing that K will turn up with an upbeat tempo, a smile, and impeccable manners, W will be statuesque and droll, they will both look good and say nice things - no moody Diana, no petulant H, no whiny M. People take pleasure in predictability, certainty, and consistency (probably because the rest of life is the opposite).

ShamedBySiri · 29/11/2022 08:10

Well I hardly think the Wales's put that on twitter @Roussette - it appears to the the work of a fan.
But as you say, it is clear evidence of a very happy marriage.

ShamedBySiri · 29/11/2022 08:11

Completely agree @MaulPerton
