Ok I’m keeping my fingers crossed this thread will not descend into an unsubstantiated bun fight! Please bear with me. I’m definitely no Royalist, and am pretty ambivalent about H and M but from the little I’ve read they seem to have been treated pretty badly. However I keep seeing on other threads here that their claims have all be proven to be lies, which would make me much less sympathetic to them. But I can’t find any verification for this. So I’m asking more knowledgeable posters - what lies specifically have H&M told and where’s the evidence to the contrary please? thank you

Actually I was watching a video of the Behaviour Panel where they were analysing snippets from the third episode. I've never watched it the series. Part of what they looked at was Thomas Markle's behaviour before the wedding. Now I'll be honest, I thought he behaved awfully. I get people saying he was a scared old man. But as Harry rather hypocritical says you don't sell stories and photos for money. And I think he betrayed his daughter. So I'm viewing it all as entertainment, thinking they're just going after the RF, when it suddenly occurred to me that she was dragging and exposing her father on a massive international platform. A 78 yo individual, not part of a protected unit, with no security. It just felt so very wrong. This is what she's doing to earn her money - the very thing they despised TM for. It just seems very poor and shoddy.

I agree that she has worked . Clearly she was/ is hugely ambitious ( not a criticism) . Unfortunately it seemed that she - finally- thought she had the starring role but came up against Royal protocol meaning she would forever be second to Kate .
It’s sad that she couldn’t accept the privileged position she was in as she could have used her platform to do so much . Look at Michelle Obama ; not the President but has successfully carved out a hugely influential role.
I know the narrative is being rewritten that she and Harry were chased out of the U.K. but the fact is they didn’t want to leave , they just couldn’t accept the situation.

I think it's a mistake to think that posters on this thread are coming from the same place or have expressed the same views. Does anyone on this thread actually "hate" M&H? I dislike their behaviour, I don't hate them. Does anyone on this thread even hate them?

Not sure how anyone can say they hate them as people but then I am not sure anyone IS saying that !

I can't think of anyone that I 'hate'. The word has become somewhat devoid of meaning now, since its overuse by online regulars.

'Hate', 'haters', 'hating on', hating'. Say it often enough about enough things in the social swamp and it becomes an inane chant.

Why do MN constantly use MO to compare - basically why can't Meghan be more like Michelle. Do you know why neither her or Barak spoke about the racial and misogyny abuse at the time? I doubt these posters have any idea what Michelle went through in terms of abuse and still does but she is often pulled out as the trump card against Meghan.

Michelle carved out her hugely influential role after being FL. she would have done something else had she not been FL.

M had a career before Harry and would also have done something else. She can't pretend she is not married into the RF. everything she does from this day onwards will link in some way to the RF even if she divorces and the RF cut off completely . It has happened. and as grown adults they can do what they like to earn money. If they RF think it is unjustified they will do something about it.

I’ve no idea how posters on this thread feel but there are certainly some very unpleasant and personal posts directed towards them.

I’m simply outlining some of the reasons given for that vitriol in an effort to better understand it.

As I’ve said before it seems to me to be a lot of unpleasant emotion directed towards people who have zero impact on our lives, but other posters were trying to explain exactly what their impact is.

The rise of China and Russia, the undermining of the foundations of the UK, and sowing social discord and division in a manner similar to Brexit were simply some of the ‘impacts’ of Harry and Meghan talking about their life experiences that were given as reasons for the dislike expressed by posters on this thread.

I’m still not entirely sure I understand the connections between them telling their ‘truth’ and those complex sociopolitical issues, but I’m willing to listen

I don't have to criticise them and I don't always criticise them. But if you make a six hour documentary, I think you'd have to be pretty thick to think people wouldn't criticise bits.

and you’re perfectly entitled to choose to criticise them - they’re public figures, they’ve put themselves out there. Say what you like - it’s a discussion forum after all

however I find it odd that they are held responsible for posters choosing to criticise them. We’re all autonomous adults I find the ongoing blaming of them for the choices of posters here, when they have basically no impact on our lives just bizarre.

No they don't use that word but I have seen words like. I can't stand them, they make me sick. Megain. Etc etc. Alongside the endless negative threads or positive or neutral threads that get high jacked by deliberate and hateful comments which aren't even helpful to those who don't like the couple but want to engage.

You don't have to use the word hate to allude to the same emotion. It is absurd I agree but it is there.

I'm not sure if it's this thread but another poster below complained about the word hater being used but had posted a string of yes hateful unpleasant posts leading up to this ..., so you tell me what brings someone who has no connection to M&H to do this other than a feeling of hate towards 2 strangers who seem to be doing well.

No I will not calm down! I will highlight each time I see it because it is a MN regular on every other thread about Meghan and it is lazy and shows they know so little about MO experience as Black FL but it is ok to use her to compare against M.
