The royal family

Harry and Meghan - lies?

1000 replies

FurAndFeathers · 28/10/2022 19:51

Ok I’m keeping my fingers crossed this thread will not descend into an unsubstantiated bun fight! Please bear with me.

I’m definitely no Royalist, and am pretty ambivalent about H and M but from the little I’ve read they seem to have been treated pretty badly. However I keep seeing on other threads here that their claims have all be proven to be lies, which would make me much less sympathetic to them. But I can’t find any verification for this.

So I’m asking more knowledgeable posters - what lies specifically have H&M told and where’s the evidence to the contrary please?

thank you

A bit like people who don't agree with M&H and their 'modus operandi', being lumped with racists and 'haters'.

I can't speak for others but personally I have always said time and time again 'this does not apply to everyone' or I post a disclaimer saying there are reasonable posters out there who aren't keen on them but type measured posts why. Of course it gets overlooked that I say this endlessly.

👏👏. Some people appear to have difficulty accepting that disliking a biracial person’s behaviour doesn’t make them a racist. I dislike Harry’s behaviour too . What does that make me?
As an aside does anyone use the word hater outside of Mumsnet?
It’s not something I have come across .

MarshaMelrose · 30/12/2022 10:15

I would love to know how many "younger" people are fans of the royals. I know my adult child is not. we don't have big conversations about them, but when they come up they see the amount of money and stuff they have as obscene.

I wasn't either pro or against the monarchy when I was young. They just existenced as part of the constitution. Their private lives really didnt dominate the news. If someone had done away with them, I wouldn't have been bothered.
But as I got older I appreciated the continuity and stability they provided. They cost no more than any head of state does, but they provide more than a constant revolving door of men in grey suits or "in" celebrities would do.
As young people, we always think we have all the answers but that's just because we don't know all the questions. Our black and white views become a wider spectrum of greys as we get older. That's why people tend to be more conservative (little c) as they age because experience has taught them the uncertainty of outcomes of complex actions and that new shiny things are not necessarily better than dull old reliable ones.

themessygarden · 30/12/2022 10:18

@Roussette I don't usually get into back and forth with posters on here, but this is what you said.

'But of course posters on here lump supporters of M&H with Sussex Squad.'

You made a sweeping statement about posters on here, you didn't add any elusive disclaimer about 'some'.

There are also some people on here who are the queens of back peddling and others who are the queens of hand slapping and sarcasm, on both sides of the spectrum. A lot of posters on here are having thoughtful discussions without being on either end of that spectrum.

older people like me have i suppose a certain amount of "loyalty" as we have grown up thinking they are special.
my feelings are changing. the silence about what Clarkson said and his being part of a do Camila gave is very damming. I really think they have proved H&M have a point.
people seem to have a blind spot and have decided anything H&M are lies, yet even a broken clock is right twice a day.
people don't want to believe PW shouted and screamed at PW for instance. I remember when my DB did that to me, his mates would probably say "oh know Fred would never do that" yet he did.

The late Queen’s “solid gold piano” is actually an antique gold painted piano gifted to Queen Victoria is the 1850’s. Did you really think it was made of solid gold? 🤦‍♀️

Roussette · 30/12/2022 10:22

'Some'
Not all.

AutumnCrow · 30/12/2022 10:22

The ‘golden carriage’ isn’t gold either. It’s an antique wooden carriage painted gold.

I’m pretty sure the gold paint used costs a few bob though.

JoyPeaceSleep · 30/12/2022 10:27

In their engagement interview they said they didn't want to name the person who fixed them up, then in the netflix thing they said they met on instagram. I think they are so very conscious ofcurating an image the whole time. They need to realise that this is what makes them look so bad.
Especially when the judge in the MOS case caught her out ''forgetting'' that she had co-operated with Finding with Freedom.

She / they should stop thinking about how they look and just make the truth important generally. But you can't force insight on other people. So on they plough making all the same mistakes.

At first I thought they'd learn from their mistakes once they saw it play out. But nope.

I assume it’s the gilt paint used to paint gold railings.

I have 3 adult DC and 2 adult DSD . My DS has no time for the Monarchy ( although he liked The Queen) while my DDs and DSDs are all interested and all like Kate and William . My 2 teenage DGC are interested in the historical side and are fascinated by the pomp . DGS considers Harry a complete idiot .

I appreciate we are just one family .

Walnutwhipsarenothesame · 30/12/2022 10:45

My adult children hardly know who they are and don’t care at all. None of their friends do either.

"Ok so we’re blaming H&M for China and Russia’s emerging power, undermining the foundations of the state and sowing dissent by simply giving their version of events? They’re personally responsible are they? If not and they’re simply ‘puppets’ then why the bile?

but we aren’t blaming Clarkson, Morgan et al for their hate-filled rhetoric that stokes the public bile-spewing, the RF for their tone-deaf spending, ongoing display of institutional racism and support of sex offenders? "

Who is "we"? Your post doesn't make any sense.

I guess ‘we’ is posters on this thread.

I’m simply trying to understand the rationale for the very obvious hatred directed towards them.

that’s my understanding from the information posted so far

It's slightly odd that they're not really aware who their HOS is. Unless you're not in the UK, obviously.

i did.

It's not hatred. It's low level contempt, I'd say. And actually Harry displays a lot of that himself in the Netflix documentary, so this kind of 'mirroring' is pretty common.

I actually watched the first episode last night to see what all the furore was. They very clearly said they were introduced by a mutual friend (Harry had seen a photo of Meghan on that friend’s instagram), they shared the messages from that friend asking Meghan if she wanted to be introduced, and then Meghan said she checked out Harry’s instagram

the two accounts are entirely consistent

honestly I wonder how much forensic analysis people do if their own/their family members retelling of stories - no one tells the same story word for word as an exact script - it would be weird if they did - in fact perfectly scripted accounts are usually an indication of dishonesty

that doesn’t make us all liars 🤷‍♀️

Call it what you like.
its unpleasant and often heated emotionally driven dislike - I’m trying to understand what drives it.

I’m not entirely sure that using their communications as a reason for rise of Russia/China and shaking the foundations of the UK state is entirely valid as a reason for some of the views on this thread…

In their engagement interview they said they didn't want to name the person who fixed them up, then in the netflix thing they said they met on instagram.

This is an example of twisting what they say to suit your angle.

They met on Twitter through a mutual friends account, Harry saw Meghan on his friends account and asked further which led to the meet up. You cannot physically meet on IM.

At the time of the engagement they did not want to name the person - why should they? They decide when, so far as the other person is ok with it.

Samcro · 30/12/2022 11:06

my adult son know who the ling is. doesn't like him though. can't imagine he is a H&M fan either.
people drag up what is going on on twitter when it suits them, it has nothing to do with mn , but for some reason its used to attack pro posters.
yet call them haters and they do not like it. its really funny.
now we have the engagement dragged up again. is there nothing new?

Meghan has worked her whole life

😁💅🍆💃👯

As a teenager she worked as a babysitter, waitress and in a frozen yoghurt shop. She also volunteered in a soup kitchen

She got her degree and worked as a calligrapher and bookbinder to support her early acting career before working full time as an actress

Sneer and post snarky emoticons if you like, but they say more about your internalised misogyny than anything else

its snarky unpleasant insinuating personal attacks without foundation like this one that in all likelihood trigger the ‘hater’ accusations.

It’s difficult to see what other basis there is for such unpleasant posts.

You are projecting so much hate in all of your replies on this thread. What you read into a few pictures is evidence of that. I don't even know if you are of the right age to understand what they all mean. Are you feeling ok? Maybe have a few days off from worshipping celebrities.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 30/12/2022 11:34

My children would probably know one or two of the main RF are if for example they were tested in school - but they do not show any interest in the current RF. but historically they know the lineage because they were taught at school and are more interested from this point and the connections to Europe. If they saw pictures of the current generation without headlines I doubt they could name them. Other than PH because one met him a few years ago for an event. They have quite a varied group of friends and I would say it is similar with them.

The younger generation are really not interested in what W is saying or what K is wearing or even whether or not Edward will be head of DofE. So I'm not sure what it will take to change things round but the time George is King.

They have far more to think about that actually affects their lives, if they need escapism they are unlikely to look at the RF when there is so much more choice.

MarshaMelrose · 30/12/2022 11:35

now we have the engagement dragged up again. is there nothing new?

Isn't this because HAM brought it up. Regurgitating everything?

Actually I was watching a video of the Behaviour Panel where they were analysing snippets from the third episode. I've never watched it the series. Part of what they looked at was Thomas Markle's behaviour before the wedding. Now I'll be honest, I thought he behaved awfully. I get people saying he was a scared old man. But as Harry rather hypocritical says you don't sell stories and photos for money. And I think he betrayed his daughter. So I'm viewing it all as entertainment, thinking they're just going after the RF, when it suddenly occurred to me that she was dragging and exposing her father on a massive international platform. A 78 yo individual, not part of a protected unit, with no security. It just felt so very wrong. This is what she's doing to earn her money - the very thing they despised TM for. It just seems very poor and shoddy.
