Prince Harry's Memoir: A World Publishing Phenomenon

There will likely be several bashing threads on Harry's memoir before it is published, but I am interested in discussing with anyone who is interested in the very interesting marketing choices of the publishers and their approach.

English language editions of SPARE will be published on 10 January 2023 in EIGHT territories: the US, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa and Canada.

The book will also be published in translation in 15 additional languages:

SPANISH Plaza & Janés/Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial
GERMAN Penguin Verlag/Penguin Random House Verlagsgruppe GmbH, PORTUGUESE BRAZIL Objetiva/Grupo Companhia das Letras
PORTUGUESE PORTUGAL Objectiva/Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial, SIMPLIFIED CHINESE Penguin Random House China
DANISH Politikens Forlag
DUTCH Hollands Diep, an imprint of Overamstel
FINNISH Otava Publishing Company Ltd
FRENCH Éditions Fayard
GREEK Pedio Books
HUNGARIAN Corvina Kiadó
ITALIAN Mondadori,
POLISH Wydawnictwo Marginesy,
ROMANIAN Nemira Publishing House,
SWEDISH Albert Bonniers Förlag.

This is absolutely sensational as it means it will be simultaneously published in 23 territories on the same day.

There are not many books where simultaneous release occurs in different markets. From this, I would say that the book will more than earn its advance, just from the foreign sales alone.

They also chose a banger of a title as it puts focus on the troubling notion of the Spare in a system based on primogeniture, and one that imbues both intrinsic and extrinsic value based on a person's birth order.

Imagine growing up knowing that no matter how loved you may be, your constitutional role is ultimately to be the spare to the heir.

Can't wait to read it!

Harry did say publically that they would only have two DC.

I feel like I am in the Twilight Zone.

@aj And they may change their mind. As many parents do.
William and Kate say no more kids, but who knows.

And risk looking like hypocrites??

TheTantrumoftheToddlerIsThere · 15/11/2022 18:01

Didn’t they receive an award and money (to go towards a charitable donation) from Population Matters for deciding to only have 2 children? I don’t think they will have any more, but if they did it would be very hypocritical and also makes the charity look stupid too.

since when did that trouble them? 😁

MaulPerton · 15/11/2022 18:34

They received an award?

Blip · 15/11/2022 18:52

I think hypocrisy may be more acceptable in the USA than in the UK.

TheTantrumoftheToddlerIsThere · 15/11/2022 19:04

@MaulPerton according to the below article they did. I can’t tell if it was a physical award or a shout out along with a charitable donation. It isn’t clear if the charity donation was accepted (as far as I can tell).

They're not going to have a baby because Charles likes grandchildren. 😂😂😂 It's unbelievable how much crap gets written (and believed!). And all those ridiculous rumours, that he'd left her and they'd split up. It's not going to happen. It's clear she irritates him from time to time but equally that he loves her.

But why would they try to pass off a remembrance photo? It's bizarre. There are so many ways to put up pictures to honour the dead. Why try to make a summer photo look like a November one? They're in danger of becoming a bit smoke and mirrors, leading to the distraction of questioning of photos in future rather than people concentrating on their message. Or maybe that's their intention.

milti · 15/11/2022 19:25

I think they have been smoke and mirrors since the off 😂😂

Could not fool the British public.
Could not even fool the American public.
Now trying to fool people in the third world.

But most of them can see through the phony baloney and celebrity pity parties.

‘Third world’? It’s difficult not to build a picture of the type of person that uses such an archaic and derogatory term.

Kind of intrigued about the photoshopping of snow covered trees on to a long- passed event where everyone was rocking springwear.

Are we at peak Twilight Zone yet?

username8888 · 15/11/2022 21:45

People speculating on the more kids for both wife's, they are 40 and 41 now.

Ps. Can I have an award for having 2 children. Wouldn't mind one for wiping my feet when I come in and how about when I turned off the unnecessary hall light. Can I have an award for saving the planet.

username8888 · 15/11/2022 21:49

FGS...leave this a better place? You mean the climate Harry, with all your private jets? What a hypocrite. Can't wait for this book to see what the ginger whinger says next. He has zero emotional intelligence. Does he actually believe his own BS?

Ohnonevermind · 15/11/2022 22:25

The fact they have to photoshop photos to make their body of work seem more substantial than it is, makes a mockery of the ripple of hope award , they deserve more an ‘illusion of hope’ mention

onlylarkin · 15/11/2022 22:30

I am starting to wonder if anyone in the UK, or at the very least on MN, has any critical thinking skills when it comes to these two. Seriously, all of this was found with a simple Google search. It baffles me that people go to such lengths to justify their hatred.

There is not a lick of snow photocopied into that picture. It was in color and changed to sepia. That is all.

It was cold in The Hague that day. High of 60F, low of 40F. In fact, Meghan gave her coat to a mom with a baby to keep it warm. The trees in other photos show they were just leafing out.

Here is another photo from the same ceremony. You can see the ornamental grass in both photos. It is just washed out more in the sepia photo.

And yet here you are believing something that is not true without digging deeper.

The photo was taken on April 15, 2022 in The Hague at the US Embassy reception. The low overnight was 40F. It was cold enough that Meghan gave her coat to a mother with a baby. So no, not a summer photo.

There is no snow photoshopped into the Archewell photo. It is likely a filter that blurred the background, but you can still see the ornamental grass and flowers behind the group of people.

Ohnonevermind · 15/11/2022 22:38

I’m guessing it’s the old ‘fake it till you make it’ adage at play

smilesy · 15/11/2022 22:41

@onlylarkin but don’t you find it a bit odd to post a photo of the Invictus games ceremony linked to a remembrance theme? When I first saw the photo and remembrance headline, I assumed it was taken at an actual ceremony of remembrance. Many people must have thought the same 🤷‍♀️

Yup.
