Prince Harry's Memoir: A World Publishing Phenomenon

There will likely be several bashing threads on Harry's memoir before it is published, but I am interested in discussing with anyone who is interested in the very interesting marketing choices of the publishers and their approach.

English language editions of SPARE will be published on 10 January 2023 in EIGHT territories: the US, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa and Canada.

The book will also be published in translation in 15 additional languages:

SPANISH Plaza & Janés/Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial
GERMAN Penguin Verlag/Penguin Random House Verlagsgruppe GmbH, PORTUGUESE BRAZIL Objetiva/Grupo Companhia das Letras
PORTUGUESE PORTUGAL Objectiva/Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial, SIMPLIFIED CHINESE Penguin Random House China
DANISH Politikens Forlag
DUTCH Hollands Diep, an imprint of Overamstel
FINNISH Otava Publishing Company Ltd
FRENCH Éditions Fayard
GREEK Pedio Books
HUNGARIAN Corvina Kiadó
ITALIAN Mondadori,
POLISH Wydawnictwo Marginesy,
ROMANIAN Nemira Publishing House,
SWEDISH Albert Bonniers Förlag.

This is absolutely sensational as it means it will be simultaneously published in 23 territories on the same day.

There are not many books where simultaneous release occurs in different markets. From this, I would say that the book will more than earn its advance, just from the foreign sales alone.

They also chose a banger of a title as it puts focus on the troubling notion of the Spare in a system based on primogeniture, and one that imbues both intrinsic and extrinsic value based on a person's birth order.

Imagine growing up knowing that no matter how loved you may be, your constitutional role is ultimately to be the spare to the heir.

Can't wait to read it!

Link please? And not Daily Mail but some trustworthy media.

So veterans should only honor other veterans in private. Got it. So ypu won't complain if the ceremony at the Centopath is canceled next year then.

Or is this another rule that "applies only to Harry"?

The Centopath is the National commemoration with thousands of veterans in attendance . Big difference to a “ private “ visit .

If you supply a link about Harry not being allowed to wear his medals ……..

Croque · 14/11/2022 18:48

I think you will find that "trusted media" consider 'them' largely irrelevant - 'they' are trash media clickbait, nothing more serious.

Lee Morgan photos

There's plenty of sources on the web

A gentle reminder that two people in a relationship do not clump together like mallow. You can like one without liking the other and their interests are often not combined or even similar once you dig deeper.

That photo is from the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games.

The point of his visit was to pay respects to veterans?

I mean, do you really wonder why he wanted to pay his respects to over 2,000 men and women who died during WW2?

He is a combat veteran for cripes sake.

Most people who want to pay their respects would do it more privately and locally.

onlylarkin · 14/11/2022 19:05

That is a pretty bold claim. You have no idea how most people would prefer it.

You know you prefer it. Maybe even your friends and family would prefer it. But there are thousands of veterans who are just fine participating in public.

My own husband, a veteran, would jump at the opportunity to honor fellow soldiers in a public setting. Because he values the decision that so many men and women made to lay down their lives for the country.

Say what? It's quite clearly US Veteran's Day. Given away by the US military personnel with the US flag, the American eagle symbol in front of the lecturn.

onlylarkin · 14/11/2022 19:28

Here shebis in her white suit at the games. The same one she is wearing in the above photo.

She has worn black to every single Remeberance Day ceremony she has ever attended. Not white. No poppies in that photo either.

onlylarkin · 14/11/2022 19:29

Oops forgot the link showing her in her white suit at Invictus.

If H&M decided never to show their faces again, how on earth will some of you fill that enormous hole in your life?!

Surplus to requirements - or dare I say it, SPARE

I saw that this morning milti. Great news if approved! Neither Harry nor Andrew should be called into that role. Edward and Anne definitely should.

onlylarkin · 14/11/2022 20:27

Here they are at the Invictus games. Meghan in her white suit with camel coat and Harry in his suit with white shirt.

So the idea that the Arcehwell photo was a staged photo op for this veterans day in order to "one up" the RF is proven false.

Where's that from, @milti? It doesn't read right. It starts out in far too casual a mode (the pronoun-to-verb contractions) and then abandons good grammar altogether at the end. Odd.

milti · 14/11/2022 20:56

it is headline news - mail, sun, express etc

milti · 14/11/2022 20:57

Autumnal crow - I defer to your grammar expertise - no idea what you’re on about 😂 it’s true anyway

Most people who want to pay their respects would do it more privately and locally.

My grandfather, an Australian Army veteran WW2, went to Pearl Harbour in the early 1970s to pay his respects.

This is not uncommon.

Oh but everyone remembers the staged photo op last year 😅 very good camera angles indeed

@Coronateachingagain but that is not what we are talking about is it?

They got slack for that last year and did not do it this year. Yet still people are upset. It is actually a rather interesting phenomenon to watch from the outside looking in.
