Prince Harry's Memoir: A World Publishing Phenomenon

There will likely be several bashing threads on Harry's memoir before it is published, but I am interested in discussing with anyone who is interested in the very interesting marketing choices of the publishers and their approach.

English language editions of SPARE will be published on 10 January 2023 in EIGHT territories: the US, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa and Canada.

The book will also be published in translation in 15 additional languages:

SPANISH Plaza & Janés/Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial
GERMAN Penguin Verlag/Penguin Random House Verlagsgruppe GmbH, PORTUGUESE BRAZIL Objetiva/Grupo Companhia das Letras
PORTUGUESE PORTUGAL Objectiva/Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial, SIMPLIFIED CHINESE Penguin Random House China
DANISH Politikens Forlag
DUTCH Hollands Diep, an imprint of Overamstel
FINNISH Otava Publishing Company Ltd
FRENCH Éditions Fayard
GREEK Pedio Books
HUNGARIAN Corvina Kiadó
ITALIAN Mondadori,
POLISH Wydawnictwo Marginesy,
ROMANIAN Nemira Publishing House,
SWEDISH Albert Bonniers Förlag.

This is absolutely sensational as it means it will be simultaneously published in 23 territories on the same day.

There are not many books where simultaneous release occurs in different markets. From this, I would say that the book will more than earn its advance, just from the foreign sales alone.

They also chose a banger of a title as it puts focus on the troubling notion of the Spare in a system based on primogeniture, and one that imbues both intrinsic and extrinsic value based on a person's birth order.

Imagine growing up knowing that no matter how loved you may be, your constitutional role is ultimately to be the spare to the heir.

Can't wait to read it!

My grandfather, an Australian Army veteran WW2, went to Pearl Harbour in the early 1970s to pay his respects.

This is not uncommon.

I agree, not uncommon at all. Every veteran that I know personally would love visiting the Pearl Harbor Memorial. In fact, the #1 reason people visit cemeteries or war memorials is to pay respects. National Parks like the Pearl Harbor Memorial are set up because this is a common occurrence.

I’ve seen the ‘proper’ version now, @milti. What you posted was a casual summary, in effect - but yes you are right it is true. Goodness me.

I know the idea of changing the number of Counsellors of State was mooted on here a while ago, but it’s fascinating to see it happening in black and white.

LondonWolf · 15/11/2022 07:19

Wonder how he got there? Private jet or no?

That’s what I wondered.

They are probably on a family vacation in Hawaii and he decided to visit the memorial while there.

Say what? It's quite clearly US Veteran's Day. Given away by the US military personnel with the US flag, the American eagle symbol in front of the lecturn.

Below is another photo from the opening ceremony of Invictus Games, this was at the US Embassy in the Hague, You can see all the same people in the front row, so the photo they posted is certainly from that event, changed to black and white and the background trees photoshopped to a winter scene rather than a spring scene, which is when the photo was taken.

Why do they keep doing this ? at some point they must accept this type of thing affects their credibility, even if they are doing it for all the right reasons. They can't harp on about being authentic and then throw their own authenticity down the toilet.

This is the one they posted, while they didn't claim it was taken on Remembrance day, it was clearly photoshopped to give that impression.

Well spotted. Perhaps the row of dignitaries are a famlam of blow up dolls they transport everywhere to boost their own image.

To photoshop a photo like that and then pretend it’s something else is just so.. very peculiar.

Ohnonevermind · 15/11/2022 09:44

They’re repurposing appearances, what next.

Croque · 15/11/2022 09:49

I will be looking out for the exact same lineup in warzones and disaster zones events all over the world. They could even drawn on space suits and line them up alongside Jeff Bezos and a spaceship.

Agree. Why not just release an official photo of H at Pearl Harbour ?

If they weren't able to attend a commemoration this year - and there's nothing wrong in that - perhaps they could have posted a montage of poppies or something?
It's their decision to make of course, but to me it seems unwise to risk your own authenticity when another image could have done just as well

Then again, just like the rest of the RF, it's long been clear that their "reality" is whatever they say it is, and this seems one more example

I saw This online. I hope none of it is true, firstly because I hope their marriage is ok and secondly because I don’t think a band-aid baby is a good idea.

Croque · 15/11/2022 14:55

I am glad a member of the Kennedy clan has commented on the award being given in the name of his family. Apparently he is baffled but said it is a step up from giving it Dr Fauci last time! 😅

But KC never sees A and L so why would another baby help ? Plus , after the dig about C and W having a third child , they would appear hypocritical! And that would never do ……
