He is working for a company that is producing a soap that will feature his dysfunctional childhood, his parents divorce and his dm's tragic death. You'd really think he'd be very vocal and critical of it. Bet if it was the BBC he would be

It is incredible how litigious he is when he perceives that a version of his truth has been transgressed by a publication but is completely silent when there's money in it for him, truth, lies, whatever.

Yes he is very selective with his outrage and 'truths'.

I think his excuse is that 'people know The Crown is fiction'.

But a glance at this thread alone shows that that is very much not the case.

antelopevalley · 18/10/2022 17:27

I have not said I believe anything. Simply that Major has lied before.
Truth is I do not know what to believe.

You have said several times that John Major has lied so maybe you could say what you know he has lied about ?

LookingAtYou · 18/10/2022 18:17

'But a glance at this thread alone shows that that is very much not the case.'

If it is fiction why replicate exactly the outfits, events, even hairstyles? If it's 'fiction' they could call them different names. It is ludicrous to impersonate people but then say all the unpleasant stuff is just made up. All a bit PA and sneaky point scoring.

Hi, reading

Major had an affair with Edwina Currie. Not sure if he told a direct lie about it, but it is dishonest behaviour.

HOWEVER, I don’t think this means he is lying about the Charles convo. He didn’t need to say anything. He could have said “convos with the RF are private” But it was a long and eloquent statement.

Readinginthesun · 18/10/2022 19:39

Yes Major had an affair with Edwina Currie but if my memory serves me right , he didn’t lie about it . When she made the details public , he made a statement admitting it and expressed regret .
I am more interested in what @antelopevalley is referring to.

Readinginthesun · 18/10/2022 19:42

I am NOT condoning Major ‘s behaviour but I don’t recall him lying about it.

antelopevalley · 18/10/2022 19:42

He had an affair while saying he was stamping out sleaze. Of course, he lied.

OP posts:
SheilaFentiman · 18/10/2022 19:52

antelope - lied to who? Don’t know re Norma, but was he asked publicly and did he deny?

Any thoughts on my post about how eloquently he dealt with The Crown?

ImAvingOops · 18/10/2022 19:58

One of Major's big things was a return to 'family values'. Unless family values includes cheating on your wife with your colleague, he wasn't being honest about wanting less sleaze!

SheilaFentiman · 18/10/2022 20:03

According to Wikipedia, the affair ended when he became chief Secretary to the treasury. So that was before he was PM, back to basics etc.

but anyway… the crown have responded to the statement saying the programme is fiction - they aren’t trying to stand by it.

smilesy · 18/10/2022 20:10

but anyway… the crown have responded to the statement saying the programme is fiction - they aren’t trying to stand by it.

This was all discussed yesterday, both the fact that Major had refuted the storyline and that Netflix had responded by saying the programme is fiction. So I’m not sure what the fact that Major has or has not told lies in the past has to do with anything, or why the OP has brought it up again.

Some people struggle to distinguish between fact and fiction

anyone remember this

Perfectly normal in that family to be financially supported your whole life

Absolutely true, but I'm not sure how that chimes with the assertion that Charles won't be giving Harry money?

I'll be very clear that I wouldn't know either way - mostly because the public never will - but if Harry's media deals blow up it's genuinely hard to see where else he'd get money from since he appears to have almost no marketable skills beyond his RF connections

antelopevalley · 18/10/2022 22:21

@Puzzledandpissedoff I was replying to a specific comment.
Charles has made it clear that Harry will not be getting money. The rest of the family have been financially supported by the family their whole life.

When did Charles publicly do that?

Gilmorehill · 18/10/2022 22:41

When H said during the OW interview that his father had ‘cut him off’ at the age of 35, I was embarrassed for him.

antelopevalley · 18/10/2022 22:43

@Gilmorehill He is an aristocrat. It is normal to be financially supported by your family. William has been until he got the Duchy which gives him loads of money.

I think Harry's understanding of the real world, even the real world inhabited by highly privileged people, is hazy at best.

I'm also not quite sure he understands exactly what it means to pursue 'financial independence', which was supposed to be their aim.

Ohnonevermind · 18/10/2022 22:54

Second sons always did rather poorly amongst the upper classes @antelopevalley look at Jane Austen, army, clergy or a rich wife seemed to be the choices 😀

I think for all the Royal Family their understanding of the real world is hazy.

Depends which ones. Anne and her family, while privileged, seem down to earth. Edwards family too. B and E work and seem normal enough.

What is the ‘real world’ anyway. I have no idea what it is like to live on benefits or a castle. I, like everyone else, has specific world experience. It is more Jarry didn’t seem to get that by leaving the job you lost it all.

Maybe. But at least they are not making a big song and dance of pursuing 'financial independence' and flouncing off to the other side of the world where they have no job, no status, nor even a roof over their head. And then whining in front of millions about how their estranged dad isn't bankrolling them.

antelopevalley · 19/10/2022 09:34

True icedpurple. Instead they are having to pay over £12 million so Andrew does not appear in court over an accusation of raping a trafficked minor, batting away accusations of financial scandals and suitcases full of cash, and dealing with unhappiness about stolen diamonds.
