What is okay on the day of the funeral?

Do you think it would be okay to do my washing and hang it out tomorrow (the day of the Queen’s state funeral), if I stick to blacks?

🤣🤣🤣

This is absolutely hilarious. What do you think the dear old lady would have wanted? I’m sure she would want you to dry your washing! You go for it. But do it sadly mind!

It not about what the Queen would have wanted is it? Presumably the Queen would have wanted her grandchildren to have supportive partners while they grieve, but that didn't stop people having a go at the Sussexes did it? We passed rational quite some days ago in some quarters.

JustJustWhy · 18/09/2022 16:52

I've watched nothing of the hours and hours and hours of coverage. I watched the condensed version on Gogglebox and I'll do the same about the funeral. To answer the question...do what you want...as long as it doesn't involve anywhere that needs to be open.

Badbadbunny · 18/09/2022 16:54

Of course you'd not be doing anything wrong.

But no doubt you'll have a crazy neighbour who "shames" you on Facebook for hanging out your smalls - probably the same moron who'd shame you on Facebook for not clapping NHS workers at the start of Covid!

But you really shouldn't live your life in fear of your crazy neighbours and just do what you want to do!

Tillsforthrills · 18/09/2022 16:54

Tomorrow’s day off would have been the perfect opportunity to meet with friends, two of them are in town from abroad and the rest of us are free. We did discuss booking a pub lunch or restaurant but thought it might be frowned upon as there’d most certainly be lots of animated chat and laughter.

But hanging up washing, yes of course you can!

Mythreefavouritethings · 18/09/2022 16:54

The Queen was from the 'Keep calm and carry on' era, so I think she would say crack on, OP. I also think she would approve of your practical thinking re weather. Perhaps you could salute the laundry as it blows gently in the breeze

RebeccaCloud9 · 18/09/2022 16:56

Oh.my.god. I thought this was a joke but you're serious?? 🤣🤣🤣

rumbypumby · 18/09/2022 16:56

@garlicandsapphires yes it was sarcasm 🤣

I'll have my smalls drying in the breeze in honour of HM tomorrow. And not just the black ones!

RaRaRaspoutine · 18/09/2022 16:59

I will be having a respectful bathe in a tub of Dubonnet. Wearing a paper crown.

SnoozyLucy7 · 18/09/2022 17:00

Thats given me a proper laugh out loud moment!

I’m going to avoid anything noisy. I’m not into mass grief, but I respect other people’s. In the house, fair game.

I can’t see going for bike rides, or the beach being an issue (except that loads of people will, because nothing else is open). It’s not like you’re intruding. If you’re on the beach, you’re hardly shattering anyone’s peaceful grieving. But I will keep my dogs quiet and not mow the lawn during the funeral itself. Laundry will go out when it suits me and I will probably process a load if apples and list stuff on eBay. (I’d watch, but we don’t have a tv licence, so I can’t, but I’m not bothered enough to schelp to mum’s and watch it, equally, I don’t want to spoil it for anyone else)

I’ll modify my activity so that it doesn’t intrude on anyone else’s grief. But I’m not expecting their grief to intrude on my normal activities where it doesn’t affect them, just because they’re grieving away elsewhere. Live and let live.

You're serious when you say you won't mow the lawn when the funeral is on? Confused Are all your neighbours hard of hearing? This kind of thinking is beyond me. I mean, fair enough if you lived within earshot of the funeral itself. But it is just a television programme that some people will watch and others won't.

Myotherdogsaballboy · 18/09/2022 17:04

You’ll be ok if it’s just dark colours and there’s no undies involved. I don’t celebrate Christmas but make sure if I hang my washing out on Christmas Day, It’s made up of red, green and silver/gold items. I also wrap tinsel around the line to make it look seasonal .

Goldpaw · 18/09/2022 17:04

If it's a nice day I'm going to have to do some washing and hang it out because I missed yesterday and I've got a bit of a pile up.

I'm self employed and have a lot of work to do so I'll also be in my office working.

Persuasion14 · 18/09/2022 17:05

Check which washing powder/liquid brand you use. If it has the royal warrant then it is probably okay. Otherwise, you are being incredibly disrespectful and should be punished.

Katyaadlerscoat · 18/09/2022 17:06

Will be driving DC to uni. Only just found out they have a compulsory session of something on Tuesday.

Respectfullydisagree · 18/09/2022 17:07

I was being sarcastic. Oh dear… 😂🙄

I need to mow my lawn. Is it ok to do this after the funeral? (And I say this as someone who completed The Queue)

There is a thread on here at the moment with the exact same question 😁

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Georgyporky · 18/09/2022 17:13

I usually do the ironing on Mondays listening to old comedy shows on Radio4 extra.
They've bloody cancelled Kenneth(s) Horne & Williams - not bona.

User47484739478474 · 18/09/2022 17:14

The forecast here is nice tomorrow I'll be doing laundry and putting it out whilst I can and avoiding the dryer.

I am planning to get up super early though to do chores as I want to watch the funeral when it starts.

I may try and fit in taking dc out to the beach or walk in the morning. They don't cope well with being in all day!

I’m having my bathroom ripped out.

It’s what she would have wanted.

Just had mine replaced. I wish you the very best of luck!

Yes I am serious; I don’t want to offend. But the weather for the rest of the week is dreadful

FFS

ChaToilLeam · 18/09/2022 17:17

If anyone complains about the laundry, shout at them for disrespectfully looking away from their TV for a moment.

Happyher · 18/09/2022 17:18

I’ll be hanging mine out multi coloured!
