What is okay on the day of the funeral?

Do you think it would be okay to do my washing and hang it out tomorrow (the day of the Queen’s state funeral), if I stick to blacks?

OP posts:

Someone's been snitching

It's purple. Is OP snitching on herself? 🤔

PotatoHammock · 18/09/2022 18:04

Surely all black cloths in your house will be in use covering your mirrors?

speakout · 18/09/2022 18:07

Takes me back to my childhood- women would gossip about other women who hung out their laundry on a Sunday.

I will be on a plane tomorrow at the time of the funeral. Will miss the whole thing.
Thankfully.

I'm not going to quote your offensive post but , you , like the Celtic fans, are disgusting.

There's a time and a place for rationally discussing the future of the monarchy, and Celtic fans behaviour at that match wasn't it.

America12 · 18/09/2022 18:08

This is hilarious

I’m having my bathroom ripped out.

It’s what she would have wanted.

Yes I feel she’d have wanted that too

NormalNans · 18/09/2022 15:39

Seriously? We’re going to the beach to scatter our dogs ashes, never crossed my mind that this wasn’t OK - is it a huge faux pas? Should we just be staying in?

so sorry to hear about your much loved dog....we're in the same situation with our rescue cat's ashes, but just finding it hard to part with the ashes...I hope your day goes well & you find comfort 🤗

Choconut · 18/09/2022 18:09

I'm doing whatever I would on any other bank holiday. Nothing against the Royals but I'm not keen on going to the funerals of people I do know so I'm not going to be giving much thought to someone's that I'd never met.

Bumpsadaisie · 18/09/2022 18:10

The queen herself said she didn't want a long boring funeral.

I think she'd like us all to watch it for an hour then go out to the pub and have a nice walk with the kids and the dog. And enjoy the day off.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 18/09/2022 18:11

This is getting crazy, the mass hysteria thats engulfed our country is appalling

Porcupineintherough · 18/09/2022 18:15

What mass hysteria? Seriously, who's hysterical?

Foldingchair · 18/09/2022 18:15

It's all the minute silences that are getting me. One in work the day after.
One at dc2's activity.
Another one in work.
One at dc1's activity.
One tonight for the whole country. I won't be participating, because I've done 4 minutes already.
I'm having a lie in tomorrow. Going to eat brioche in my pjs and watch the funeral. I never get lie ins at the weekend.

JinglingHellsBells · 18/09/2022 18:17

Intriguing.

In my childhood, hanging your washing out on a Sunday was considered very bad form, as was playing out in the street with other kids.

I was brought up to regard a Sunday as a special, quiet day.

I doubt very much that the late Queen would care if you had to wash your sheets and dry them outside.

Wingloss · 18/09/2022 18:20

This has to be a joke. Absolute madness 🤣😂🤣

WimbyAce · 18/09/2022 18:21

Went shopping with the 7 year old today and she bought a Halloween t-shirt. She wants to wear it tomorrow but I said I don't think it would be appropriate 🤭

WimbyAce · 18/09/2022 18:23

Maireas · 18/09/2022 17:23

You just have to make sure your washing line is at half mast

Brilliant 😆

WaitroseorBust · 18/09/2022 18:23

I'm waxing the sack, back and c of our family Bichon Frisé Commodus.

We'll still take time to pay my respects to her Majesty later via BBC iPlayer over Pims over crackers.

My DH is bald as a coot, we plan to use the hairy shavings (they've both white locks) to restore a semblance of hirsuteness to his pate using Pritt Stick and cling film.

Any cuttings left over I'll hand over to our beloved six year old, as I've suggested she make up a portrait of the late Queen for her nursery group on Tuesday. Next door's got a West Highland White terrier Maximus and they might conjoin efforts on a twin project remembering the late Monarch, perhaps a portrait of their joint royal favourite Princess Michael of Kent or one of Harry Styles using non-toxic dyes.

We had a similar idea when tortoise Tiramasu passed away (oddly also after seventy years) when we gutted him and turned his shell into a commemorative ashtray.

:(

PS She plastered the shell with Tellietubbie stickers but I think she meant well.

SuperCamp · 18/09/2022 18:26

No black pants, OP, not pants.

Toastandjam16 · 18/09/2022 18:26

Hope service stations are open tomorrow. I have to travel and I don't relish the idea of not being able to stop for snacks or fuel. Plus when I arrive I'll need food so I hope at least Maccy D's has reopened.

Lucinda86 · 18/09/2022 18:27

I’m taking my kids to the park? I wouldn’t be able to watch the funeral with my two anyway they go stir crazy in the house… I never thought it may offend anyone but tbh the only people it could offend are other people at the park and in which case - why are they also at the park? 😂

Lcb123 · 18/09/2022 18:27

Surely this is a joke…. Get a grip. Do whatever you want

HandbagsnGladrags · 18/09/2022 18:28

😂 funniest thing I've read today!

Not all day though! We booked lunch at 12pm and it got cancelled because they are opening at 1pm for drinks & 2pm for food 🙄

Our local pub is opening early to serve bacon baps before the funeral, staying open with the funeral on the beg screen and then toasting the queen with dubonnet after then serving lunch/dinner.

whynotwhatknot · 18/09/2022 18:29

really this is serious? you can do as you wish its not a law that you sit and mourn

Porcupineintherough · 18/09/2022 18:15

Mostly just the media I think trying to make people feel bad for not feeling bad
