What is okay on the day of the funeral?

Do you think it would be okay to do my washing and hang it out tomorrow (the day of the Queen’s state funeral), if I stick to blacks?

Yes I am serious; I don’t want to offend. But the weather for the rest of the week is dreadful

I'm hanging out all my washing and watching parts of the service and walking my dog. Life goes on.

What it means is someone desperately trying, and failing miserably, to be funny.

This is all a bit like Brexit- whilst I was a Remainer, my goodness there were a lot of embarrassingly patronising plonkers on the Remain side. I'm not a Royalist but, my goodness there are some embarrassing plonkers on the anti- monarchist side.

People have lost their fucking minds

So true.

How is it disrespectful not participate in something you have no interest in? I won't be stopping other people doing as they wish. I'm not going to run up and down the street with an airport whilst the funeral is on shouting anti-establishment slogans. I'm just not watching the funeral of someone I didn't know, and who represented something I don't believe in. Nothing again HM personally, but I'm neither a hypocrite nor a sycophant and so shall go about my day as usual.

marinermummy · 18/09/2022 23:57

That would be me; sorry 😬

That would be me; sorry 😬

verdantverdure · 19/09/2022 05:46

Just off out on my run/walk and I'm wearing all black. Will curtsey at the postboxes.

User1754983 · 19/09/2022 06:09

Of course people will do their washing if it's fine, don't people pick fine days or you have to have it hanging round the house or use the dryer.

firef1y · 19/09/2022 07:32

Well I couldn't get to parkrun Saturday, so I'll be taking my family to the local country park for the day and running the parkrun route while I'm there.
Is it respectful enough to do the 1min silence that's been part of the briefing the last couple of weeks? I'll be wearing a black top at least and my cars black so the drive there are back will be nice and respectful. (Pretty sure the radio will be full of depressing music or the funeral itself)

vera99 · 19/09/2022 08:12

Well, the weather looks quite good for both the funeral and your washing so hopefully, everybody is catered for. I do feel a sense of solemnity and finality today and intend to watch the broadcast and not snipe. But tomorrow is another day as James Bond liked to say and the long hangover will beginneth in earnest.

GobbolinoTheWitchesCat · 19/09/2022 08:17

I think in generations past when we were a mire royalist and formal country, it would have absolutely been frowned upon to hang washing out on the monarchs funeral day (going by what grandparents have told me).

vera99 · 19/09/2022 08:34

There is a patriotic British song - my dad used to sing it occasionally to annoy my mum when she was hanging out washing (he was in the war !). My mum camped out all night to watch the Coronation form near Westminster Abbey. They died in 1993 and 1995 as they had their children late in their 40s. They would be watching the funeral today with suitable deference of that I have no doubt. I'm sure my mum wouldn't have stopped hanging out her washing if that was needed.

Put the washing out and have a minutes silence

KLFC81 · 19/09/2022 09:03

The lol’s over this post on Twitter are epic.
other peoples expectations are their problem, not yours. Do what you want to do today (Monday) I’m going for a run and then will be playing Nintendo with the kids.

RiftGibbon · 19/09/2022 14:27

I've just put a load of washing on. It's a mixed wash too.

winterspinach · 19/09/2022 17:37

she used state funds to pay for her funeral, and she’ll likely wind up in hell anyway so do what you like

Doingprettywellthanks · 20/09/2022 15:48

My children and I watched 10 mins of the funeral and then 3 episodes back to back of love island!

Doingprettywellthanks · 20/09/2022 15:49

OP

you have 4 teens?Surely they all completely took the piss?!!!

asblindasabat · 15/10/2022 23:27

I actually think the Queen herself would have a good chuckle at this question herself if she could see it 😂
