Following on from the Podcast threads. The sad news about the declining health of the Queen is of concern.

I see that the Changing of The Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace has been cancelled today. That decision is presumably not taken lightly

smilesy · 08/09/2022 14:45

Sorry, the ceremony was due to take place tomorrow but they have dance it today

LondonWolf · 08/09/2022 14:46

Thanks for starting a new thread.

Thanks for starting this @SilverLiningPlaybook (and the title)

I'm sure we can all imagine how difficult and painful this is for the Royal family, because it always is, whoever you are and most of us have been through it. I hope that they all, without exception, find comfort in being there together.

NoInvitesEver · 08/09/2022 14:50

I live very near to one of the Queen's children, and saw a helicopter land yesterday evening and take off again within minutes from their property. I immediately thought of the Queen and hoped she was all right, as I do not usually see helicopters there.
The news today confirmed all is not well.

SueSaid · 08/09/2022 14:57

I said on the other thread while it isn't a surprise it just seems so sad as we've all grown up with her constant presence in the media, it's the end of an era.
Must be awful for the congregating family to put all their differences aside at such a difficult time.

MaulPerton · 08/09/2022 14:57

I thought it seemed imminent last night after reading that ridiculous 'William crossed the line' article from mouthpiece and seeing a photo of her.

tryinghardnottocry · 08/09/2022 14:58

I fear she has died, and they will make an announcement when all the immediate family are at Balmoral

NanaNelly · 08/09/2022 14:59

A very sad day and I hope this doesn’t mean the worst over the next few days.

Kind of where my thoughts are although I’d very much like to be wrong.

Sadly, because I would love to be wrong, I think it is inevitable now. It is a slight shock though having seen her with LT and BJ on Tuesday, I must say.

Surely they wouldn’t be putting out an announcement saying she under medical supervision if she’s already died?

I'm not saying she has because none of us know, but I think they can delay, George VI wasn't officially announced until late morning when he'd clearly died in the night.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 08/09/2022 15:13

It’s so sad. I know she’s very old and it would happen sooner rather than later but I was hoping it would be later.

NoInvitesEver · 08/09/2022 15:14

Yes they can delay as there are protocols to follow. Prime Minister is told and all countries where she is Head of State, before a public announcement.
With Royals travelling and engagements being cancelled, they had to make some sort of announcement.
I suspect she may have passed already, but I don't know.

course they would, all this came about by speculation about starmer etc beinghanded notes in HOC

Surely they wouldn’t be putting out an announcement saying she under medical supervision if she’s already died?

They will because they will want her family to be with her first and there will be all sorts of protocol that they have to follow first.

CPL593H · 08/09/2022 15:15

When I said on the thread last night that my Nan talked about being puzzled that the grownups were crying when Victoria died, I little suspected we'd be here today.

FoggyCrumpet · 08/09/2022 15:16

I feel very sad, Her Majesty has been the epitome of duty all her life and we shall not see her like ever again.

Also shocked as she looked very chipper albeit frail in that last photo with a lovely smile and sparkle in her eyes.

My mother had osteoporosis and her last ten years were punctuated by falls, fractures and hospital stays. Her last fall about this time last year was followed by a very sad and painful decline over the next three months, even though her consultant also described her as "chipper" soon after pulling through an operation that she had not been expected to survive. The photo of the Queen certainly looked as if she still had an appetite for life and every expectation of being with us for some time yet. To have a dignified passing in the home she loves will be a great blessing.

God Save The Queen.

Rumors on Reddit is that the top host of BBC and sign language interpreter have switched their wardrobes to all black/black tie. It’s not looking good :(

SilverLiningPlaybook · 08/09/2022 15:20

Huw Edwards wearing black tie also.

OP posts:
smilesy · 08/09/2022 15:21

According to Nicolas Witchell on the BBC, the palace will not be giving out any more details imminently 🤷‍♀️

Serenster · 08/09/2022 15:23

They have Bri5 - I switched on the tv while I had a cup of tea just now. They’ve also called Huw Edwards in, as they obviously didn’t want one of their lunchtime news readers rota on point

(That all is eminently sensible planning though - if the newsroom get confirmation and break the news that’s a moment that will be replayed years into the future, so you want your best staff on, and you want them dressed appropriately).

Ohnonevermind · 08/09/2022 15:24

omid has announced that Harry and Meghan are both going to Scotland . What a fucking tool that man is

Pegasushaswings · 08/09/2022 15:26

Announcement at 4 apparently . I feel so sad.
