Following on from the Podcast threads. The sad news about the declining health of the Queen is of concern.

@SheldonesqueTheBstard I agree too that Liz Truss’ speech was well delivered. Boris, for all his faults, is a great wordsmith. That is not Liz Truss’ style, but what she said was dignified and appropriate.

Yes liz truss did sound a bit robotic. But I wonder if she felt she had to show solemnity and composure to act the part. It takes quite a lot to blend that with emotion and she's only just started. I imagine Barack Obama would have given a great speech. Not the only reason I wish we had someone like him though!

I feel a bit sorry for Liz Truss. Her second day on the job and the Queen dies! Her speech was okay (not great) and I think if she'd had a bit more time she might've worn something a bit more formal. The whole thing had a very 'thrown together' feel about it, but bloody hell, I'm glad it wasn't me having to do it.

RIP our lovely Queen Flowers

Seeing clips of the Queen younger , on board The royal Yacht Britannia , her speech on her 21st birthday , on her coronation, it all felt like something from a bygone era , something we will never witness again. 😢

I don't want a great speech that's been written years ago though. The time for a fuller speech will come.

i've just tried to raise a glass of scotch and the cork fell in. I'm sure the queen would laugh at my clumsy attempts to retrieve it!

I don't know, it kind of takes the focus away from her especially as she doesn't know what she's doing at the moment.

I was there was a 'like' button.

Yes. When I heard I said that it was nice we saw her just two days ago.
And @RaininginDarling , also very nice that she was at Balmoral.

Ohnonevermind · 09/09/2022 06:40

It’s so lovely that she got to spend time in Balmoral with the family she loved this summer and see how she was loved at the jubilee. Most of her great grand kids are old enough to remember spending time with her and they’ll have lots of lovely photos to look at in the future.

What a trouper continuing until the end with a smile on her face meeting Liz Truss. The bruising on her hand from those photos must have been from a canula.

She must have felt awful when greeting LT. One last duty to perform before she could allow herself to go. What an amazing woman and wonderful Queen.

I remember as a young child, going to London, jokingly saying we’re off to see the Queen!

Things won’t be quite the same again, although we will move on.

She really was like a grandmother figure to lots of people.

It also dawned on me that she really was the last of the war time generation.

Most people in ireland had a complicated relationship with the Queen but when she visited she charmed the country.

Her speech was as it should have been. She did grand in the circumstances.

I liked how she just got on with the speech, no waffling.

Most people in Ireland didn’t have any relationship with the Queen of England let alone a complicated one.

In general the Queen of England was well regarded if that is what was meant?
