It feels like we're being slowly prepared for her passing away. I feel unexpectedly tearful.

I think the change of BBC News staff at 2.00pm have been told to prepare, the person currently doing the sign language is also in black with a black tie. I hope she sees the people she loves one more time - must be hard for her staff too.

SHe has 8 grandchildren, why just him?

Peter Phillips her favourite apparently.

And the 2 children of Edward.

MessyBunPersonified · 08/09/2022 14:12

Shes had an amazing life, she has got to a ripe old age, and (it looks like) she will die in her beloved home, with doctors on hand to make her comfortable, surrounded by her family.

I cant put my finger on what it is I'm feeling about it all. I'm no royalist by any stretch of the imagination, but its the end of an era when she goes for sure.

She is their great grandmother. They will be sad, but fine.

I was very sad at 13 and then 15 when my great grandfather and then great grandmother passed away.

My DS is 8 and his great grandmother looks after him most days after school. Multi generational families like this where you meet your great grandmother regularly and they are a presence is still a loss.

Nat6999 · 08/09/2022 14:12

Happinessisabook Harry is on his way to Balmoral

I’m more emotional than I expected to be.
Not a Royalist, but my grandma is in her 90s and small and frail too, so I think it just makes it very real. It’s sometimes easy to forget that people in the public eye are actual real life people, who are so loved and special to their relatives

I hope all of her relatives get to be with her, and that she is comfortable.

I think this is part of why I feel so upset, it's bringing my elderly mum's health and lifespan into sharp focus. If the Queen lives, then my mum is alright.

I never expected to feel so crushed by this news.

ChicCroissant · 08/09/2022 12:57

I hope she remains comfortable and has her family around her in the next few days. She's the only monarch I've ever known in my lifetime.

She's the only monarch most people have ever known, probably at least 90% of Mumsnet if not more. Honestly

Yes Huw in his black suit and tie is a major tell, he's been briefed the announcement is possibly imminent. 🙁

Yes, this is absolutely the plan being put into action.

Why do we need to be prepared for the death of someone we don’t know?

Because whether you like it or not it will change everything massively

Just a question wondering if anyone could answer- will businesses etc close ?

Zonder · 08/09/2022 14:12

Dinoboymama · 08/09/2022 14:05

She would be moved to Edinburgh to lay in rest and it's where her funeral would be and after a funeral moved to London preferably via train but if not by plane where the prime minister would be.

I don't think that's right. I read that she would be taken by train to London for the funeral after people have gathered in Scotland.

Hopefully not imminent though 😟

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 08/09/2022 14:12

Why do we need to be prepared for the death of someone we don’t know?

Not entirely sure-or for the death of someone who is 96 for that matter. i'm as prepared as I ever was.

CandyLeBonBon · 08/09/2022 14:13

She's like everyone's lovely old great grandma isnt she? She reminds me of my Nan. I'm not a fan f the royals but it'll be a sad day when she does pass. She may well have all the trappings of wealth and privilege but she's never abused her position. She's always recognised the need for calm stoicism and there's a lot we can all learn from her dedication and work ethic.

SHe has 8 grandchildren, why just him?

Because he's been living abroad? Because she has seen all her grand kids in the UK more often?

My gran lived in Scotland, I'm in. Cornwall. I didn't get to see her before she died as it was quite sudden in the end, although we all did a similar mad dash (like the RF are doing now) up to see her the year before she actually died. We arrived at the hospital having been told she was literally at deaths door and she was sat up looking the best I'd seen her in years after a blood transfusion 😂. She had another year after that and I saw her once more in that time.

She might appreciate the opportunity to see her favourite grandson. If she's in a fit state, she might tell them all to sort their shit out as well.

UsernameIsDeadToMe · 08/09/2022 14:14

Oh it’s just grim. More bbc breaking news. Makes me feel a bit sick.

DeadButDelicious · 08/09/2022 14:14

Sadly I think she's either very close to passing or has already passed and they are waiting for all of the family to arrive before an announcement is made. The news most likely know more than they are letting on at the moment. It's just a matter of time I think now.

It's very sad. She is a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and her family will undoubtedly be devastated. She's 96, she's lived an extraordinary life and if this is her time then it's her time.

I think so too the news readers sound like they are shocked and struggling

Chanel05 · 08/09/2022 14:15

@TheSpottedZebra I'm getting more and more convinced by the minute that she's already passed away and that they're just getting the word out to everyone before breaking the news later on today and once family have arrived.

TeeBee · 08/09/2022 12:47

My ex is working on a webpage regarding her (future) passing (sad but true). Seems like there are preparations behind the scenes. But she's 96 and she's a well-loved monarch. These things do need to be planned in advance.

Obits are written well in advance aren't they? Then just the circumstances etc added to it before publishing.

DIanaRiggFan · 08/09/2022 14:16

@Nat6999 i agree - reminded me of my grandmother during her demise, she visibly shrank

emmathedilemma · 08/09/2022 14:16

Does anyone know what national protocol is for activities etc when she dies? I've been looking through the "operation" links and it only really explains funeral activities. I'm trying to work out if things like outdoor sports clubs would still be played or are we all literally expected to stay home and mourn?

ohidoliketobe · 08/09/2022 14:17

TheSpottedZebra · 08/09/2022 14:06

OK my apologies it seems I wrong about Operation Unicorn being made up!

Yes - it's the protocol for if the Queen dies at Balmoral with 'Unicorn' being in relation to the Scottish insignia, not mythical!

Sceptre86 · 08/09/2022 14:18

I feel more sad than I expected. Hope she is comfortable and surrounded by her loved ones.

Lysianthus · 08/09/2022 14:19

Smudges16 · 08/09/2022 14:03

Does anyone know the details of Operation Unicorn?

She would be taken to Edinburgh for a service in the cathedral , then to London for the funeral (10 days after her death I believe).

Housewife2010 · 08/09/2022 14:19

Meghan & Harry's presence at this time will either hopefully bring about a reconciliation or provide them with more information to be disclosed by the weird Scobie.
