It feels like we're being slowly prepared for her passing away. I feel unexpectedly tearful.

Exactly asnoot no need surely.

If she has indeed sadly died and many people have been aware for hours, isn't it a bit peculiar that Nicholas Witchell keeps repeatedly stating that he knows nothing beyond the official statement and has no indication of any announcement being imminent? I can't imagine he'd outright lie about not knowing, but equally can't imagine him (or at least somebody at the BBC) not knowing.

Prince Charles is not a fan of Nic and has probably insisted that he is to be the last to know.

Won't be the first time someone on the BBC has lied!!

She may have had a stroke or heart attack. Although frail she looked in good spirits on Tuesday so this does seem like a sudden and unexpected decline. Who knows, but whatever it is it must be serious for them to put out an announcement like this and it does seem like we are being prepared. Yes she’s 96 but she’s been a constant in our lives and has served our country well. Her dedication to her role as queen in undeniable. I hope she surprises everyone and rallies.

You what?! Do you think people can choose not to die until family members get there 🤯

Given that i would expect her to have the best medical staff, and pretty good communicative skills these days, i'm pretty sure theyd know how imminent her demise is, and make a call to say 'you need to get here' to other family members in good time!
Its a pretty routine procedure.. or havent you ever experienced such a thing?

No need to make out i'm stupid thanks!

earsup · 08/09/2022 18:10

she will keep going.....its probably another cold or bout of chinese virus....not concerned here.

Sparklingbrook · 08/09/2022 18:10

I can't believe the waffling is still going on. Although if they get the waffling done now maybe there will be less afterwards.
Looking at the gates of Balmoral all afternoon, reminds me of when they had everyone staring at the doors of the maternity ward Kate had he babies at all day. isn't rolling news brilliant. Grin

Sudden death from stroke or such like doesn't always leave enough time for family to get there regardless of how good the medical care or communication is these days.

They are waiting for Harry to arrive before they announce it.

I wouldn't blame Charles if that were the case, but there is zero chance that he wouldn't have heard it from another source.

No there won't. This is going to go on and on and on and on

earsup · 08/09/2022 18:12

Also waiting for the parasite awful Paul burrell to pop up and do his bit on tele...he has been quiet for a while....

CaptainBarbosa · 08/09/2022 18:12

Maybe they are just waiting on Harry to arrive, to brief him and whatnot. And then an update will come from the palace either she is still comfortable or worse.

The palace will be very much aware the world's media is waiting, so I imagine some form of update will come this evening.

Huw and the BBC would look silly though if he's in his black tie and suit and she pulls through. It will always be remembered as the time the BBC prepared to announce her death and she didn't die.

I think it's telling though, all this coverage, the black attire sadly.

Mumsnet is going to implode. At least there's a Royal Family topic though.

My father had the most serious type of stroke (hemorrhagic) and still survived for a week, he was put on the end of life pathway - he was still very strong in some respects, and hung on in there. I'd imagine with a stroke there would have been some attempt to get her to hospital.

adriftabroad · 08/09/2022 18:14

I also think waiting for Harry.

I was annoyed they suspended Emmerdale to show that door for hours.

Changingmynameyetagain · 08/09/2022 18:15

DH works for a bank and he had a London Bridge briefing this afternoon and has been told to keep his work phone on tonight.
I'm hoping it’s just a precaution.

BayandBlonde · 08/09/2022 18:15

All the other royals managed hot foot it there pretty swiftly. But here is Harry seemingly taking his time Hmm

Zero chance of this given the statement issued by the palace about her health. They just wouldn't do that unless it was obvious things were only going one way.

Well they do know, but no one can say anything till the palace announces it, can they?

People who work in News have were told about an hour ago there was an announcement coming around 6, so don't think it will be long.
