It feels like we're being slowly prepared for her passing away. I feel unexpectedly tearful.

So you know one of the royal family or the top people in government, as I'm pretty sure it would only be those people who know.

Nope, def don't know any of those people user.

My son's friend though works somewhere quite significant and they were told.

But hey don't worry about it.

I actually do know members of the RF however I know no facts - no one does until we are all told via the media tonight or tomorrow

Do you think it will be announced at 6? I might put it on it's an historic thing for the kids

No.

I don’t actually think she’s dead.

It’s obvious that she’s in decline, and the palace making an announcement is why the BBC cut scheduled programming.

But no I don’t believe there is going to be an announcement today or tomorrow.

So many people would be involved and impacted by 'Operation London Bridge' that it's impossible to keep it a secret, even if people aren't told directly:

  • servicemen/women will have leave cancelled
  • comms people will be asked to update websites/ prepare statements
  • meetings and events for the days ahead will be cancelled
  • royal 'experts' will be called upon for comment/ news
  • civil servants/ diplomats will have duties to carry out

But surely these people will be informed when it is imminent, not wait for the moment to happen, so lots of people are being prepared in regards to their own responsibilities and jobs, and the public are being given more vague news.
But I'm pretty sure everyone can see its happening with the family gathering etc but it doesn't necessarily mean all the above people already know she has died. They might, but they will have been prepared beforehand.

Comedycook · 08/09/2022 17:55

I think she has died already...I doubt the bbc would suspend programming and have this endless coverage if it was just imminent. I think they will announce it tonight.

user1498572889 · 08/09/2022 17:55

It’s just been announced the queen is comfortable and resting.

Fififelix · 08/09/2022 17:55

They are preparing us for her passing, they don't normally give comment on medical matters. It's also telling the whole family is going to pay their respects.

No idea. If she hasn't died then probably not...

Well her death is being announced in 5 minutes apparently. 🤔

It’s just been announced the queen is comfortable and resting.

They've been saying that since the news broke.

New posts on this thread. Refresh page and there are also a lot of bullshitters here as well.

Anyone who was actually a reputable source wouldn’t be posting on mumsnet that the queen had died. Anyone claiming to have been told that’s the case is 100% bullshitting.

Even if she has died, nobody on here actually knows that.

Well none of this is true. Thousands of people know. Media outside broadcasters know, army personnel know, civil servants know, many MPs know. How do you think the message is going to be given out without camera people already in place? Directly after that church people will be interviewed, they already know. Leave has been cancelled, programs rescheduled, etc etc loads of people.

Op Forth Bridge was incredibly well done @Poshjock

Very moving

It was a very surreal experience. The rehersal phase was intense. But a huge honour to be involved even in a small way.

user1498572889 · 08/09/2022 17:58

@Sparklingbrook
well if she is dead she would be comfortable and resting.

Yes, that was announced at 12:30pm

Angrymum22 · 08/09/2022 18:00

I don’t think the BBC would be allowed to spend a whole afternoon doom and glooming if there wasn’t good reason.
I fairly certain that she took a turn for the worst this morning and has died sometime today.
Having recently lost my father in law and lost both my parents some years ago, family is always first to know and often gather asap to console each other. It’s normal. Just because she’s the Queen doesn’t mean her family are any different.
I hope she has/had a peaceful death and is now pain free and at peace.

From what I've read, the BBC only suspends programming once they have been told of her death. So I suspect BBC were told hours ago she died hence when they suspended programming. They don't suspend programming (according to all the protocol info I have read until they are told she's dead. I could be wrong though but that's from everything I've read.

HebeSunshine · 08/09/2022 18:02

Oh I don’t know, they do it most days on their news channel 😁

asnoot · 08/09/2022 18:04

If she has indeed sadly died and many people have been aware for hours, isn't it a bit peculiar that Nicholas Witchell keeps repeatedly stating that he knows nothing beyond the official statement and has no indication of any announcement being imminent? I can't imagine he'd outright lie about not knowing, but equally can't imagine him (or at least somebody at the BBC) not knowing.

Angrymum22 · 08/09/2022 18:04

😂

Angrymum22 · 08/09/2022 18:05

Sorry that was meant for Hebe

mikado1 · 08/09/2022 18:05

They're making a massive deal of not having facts, not being about to announce anything etc... bit 'the lady doth protest top much' perhaps?

Some of these posts remind me of Schrodinger's Cat.
