It feels like we're being slowly prepared for her passing away. I feel unexpectedly tearful.

Watching BBC live news, the bottom banner turned black for a bit. Back to red now but they are testing…

Yes, I saw that about 90 mins ago too.

Sparklingbrook · 08/09/2022 15:07

What's the point of this rolling news? Just waffling away now.

workiskillingme · 08/09/2022 15:07

Just had to pop to the post office and felt shockingly upset thinking will this be the last stamp I purchase with the queen on

He was in Germany I think

He’s been back in the Uk since yesterday.

Roussette · 08/09/2022 15:08

PostMortemNow. You know NOTHING about the relationship between Harry and his GM, they were very close it has been said.
I was just waiting for someone to blame the Queen's death on them.
Show some respect to the family and button it

Non stop activity at the Balmoral gates. Not conicidental

DillDanding · 08/09/2022 15:08

The BBC have camera trained on the gates of Balmoral. How mawkish.

The news coverage is going to be nauseating.

The problem is though that they can't really cut away and go 'oh well, in the meantime here's Bargain Hunt'. The media is stuck for now. Not their fault.

mmmflakycrust81 · 08/09/2022 15:08

I work in media and everything is going mental....

Just waiting for the announcement I would think and to do what ever is in place.

I think she'll be gone by February.

Without being too ghoulish about it - I think it's more imminent than that. The announcement just now seemed more like a pre-warning to soften the blow in the next few days to me. Maybe/hopefully I'm wrong.

I agree. She’s been looking progressively more frail over the last year or so, notably so recently. Obviously didn’t want to leave her beloved Balmoral to see off Bozo (don’t blame her)

Of course she has the very best healthcare and isn’t actually ill in that’s ages diagnosed with anything, but even then at some stage you just run out of steam. I think we do need some sort of mascot, and I think she’s a very good one. Much better than Charles will be, and l’ll be sorry to see her go. After losing her husband of so long and then putting on a brave face for the Jubilee, I reckon seeing off Boris (whom she must have at least found disrespectful, given her absolute dedication to her duty and his complete reckless dereliction of his) was her feeling like she’d seen it through.

Yes, I think we are being prepared.

Ok, just found a link.

Will they shred all the existing stamps? I was just wondering if they have a load of Charles ones ready, and coins

AmmoniteCrystals · 08/09/2022 15:09

I’m sitting in the orthodontist with dd. Radio 2 still playing cheery music.

I guess they will want to synchronise over all media outlets when the news is confirmed.

Agree, sadly. The BBC news team all seem to be in black and the fact that BBC1 has broken from its usual schedule seems telling as well. 😥

This could go on for hours then.

Why do we need to be prepared for the death of someone we don’t know?

I'm not in the least a Royalist, but I'll try to give an answer to that question, or at least call in someone to give it a shot...

For Whom the Bell Tolls
by John Donne

No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less,
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thine own
Or of thine friend's were.
Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls.
It tolls for thee.

SpilltheTea · 08/09/2022 15:11

The media are like vultures waiting for her to die.

Mabelstearooms · 08/09/2022 15:11

The line 'The Queen is comfortable' is very telling from a medical point of view. More likely means she is being made comfortable, with end of life care.

Issummeroveralready · 08/09/2022 15:12

At least she is in a place she loves.

CaveMum · 08/09/2022 15:12

From what I've read, the announcement on TV will be preceeded by all channels going to their IDent screen, before going to black so that they can all coordinate to break the news at the same time.

I've been a bit surprised by Nicholas Wichell's comments about what might be the cause of her health decline. He actually said "there have been rumours about cancer".

Yup. The newsreaders all waffling about nothing just waiting...

The media are like vultures waiting for her to die.

Would it be better if they kept it quiet and told everyone a few days down the road and the newspapers put a note on page 4 and that was it?
