With another podcast set for release this week, The Sunday Times has a piece addressing Harry and Meghan's apparent strategy:

Courtiers are bemused by the Sussexes’ determination to rage against the past. As Davis observed of Meghan in her article: “She has taken a hardship and turned it into content.” A source who knows the Sussexes questions why Meghan “is constantly looking back at how awful it was to briefly be a royal. What does success look like, is it a number in the bank? Is it that they’ve killed off the monarchy?” Another Palace source says: “Ultimately they are bashing the institution that has put them in the position they’re in, the longevity of that strategy is not sustainable.”

I'm curious about their strategy, too. They seem to think that criticizing the royal makes them look better - it really doesn't. Instead, it just makes them look petty and increasingly irrelevant.

I too think she looks amazing but when she speaks my god, it’s a world salad of nonsensical utterances.

Grin Meghan and Harry looked great and it's fine if they are invited to make inspirational speeches. It's the sniping at family bit I hate. So well done Meghan.

Fair point

Well done to them for not slagging off their families

She looks great and has a lovely speaking voice but the content left me cold .
I think the DM is building up to something. Don’t know what but I think there is going to be some big story soon.

What do you mean?

she speaks well but needs a speech writer.

You are the present, the moment of the present, the present moment that is present.

Lovely voice though.

Maybe just a quiet news day and nothing of national significance has taken place today 🤔

MarshaMelrose · 05/09/2022 22:08

She always looks great in the colour red, I think.

I know the papers are never going to be balanced either way, but I hope there's fair reporting. I'm pretty sure they're doing a partnership with the mandela foundation about leadership which is also the focus of one young world so they're tying things nicely together. We need to support young people coming through, especially with SM pulling everyone down, so I hope both of the royal couple have forward thinking and strategic advice to offer. This is their future, bringing issues raised by these organisations, ignored by most people, to a world audience.

Yeah unfortunate because soon people will just snicker. Is it even the fashion anymore that word salad.

I agree about needing a speech writer .
The DM’s coverage is uncharacteristically sycophantic and that makes me wonder why !
Maybe I read too many conspiracy theories !

lllllllllll · 05/09/2022 22:16

Surely it’s obvious why the Daily Mail is going to town - Meghan and Harry are controversial figures, so articles about them generate a shit ton of clicks!

I’ve watched most of the speech now - there’s no doubt she’s an extremely engaging and charismatic speaker. Some have mentioned Harry’s look when the camera panned to him - I think he was deliberately trying his best to look modest but didn’t quite manage it, and it just came across as a bit odd!

Mumsnut · 05/09/2022 22:21

I wonder if the Daily Mail wants to be in an 'innocent face' position, able to point to lots of gushing articles when there is next a critical one. 'Balanced coverage, innit mate?'

So this is one for the back pocket, as it were.

😂😂😂

One has to feel a little bit sorry for Liz Truss with her moment of glory totally knocked off the front pages. 🤦‍♀️

StartupRepair · 05/09/2022 22:36

I suspect this outing is designed to appear in the documentary as the redemption moment when all the mean people realise what they lost.

RightGrove · 05/09/2022 22:40

I really don't know why M&H would be talking at this event? They aren't young, they aren't royal, nor celebrities based on some sort of talent. They are rich beyond belief and are not #bekind. The scarlet red outfit is an interesting choice, tres American and dramatic. I can't see her appealing to a UK audience. The only thing I can relate to and find somewhat sympathetic is that they are a mixed ethnic/race couple. Good for them I say.

Any chance H&M are coming back to the UK?

Did they plan to move to Windsor and the Cambridges went in there first?

They do provide mild entertainment value.

lllllllllll · 05/09/2022 22:49

Actually I retract my previous comment about Harry - having watched his reaction again, I think he was just emotional and genuinely moved by what Meghan was saying. He looks like he’s trying to hold back the tears!

NoName2223 · 05/09/2022 22:55

Wow it’s not cheap to attend this summit - at around 2000 delegates x ~£3k they must make a few million for each summit. But more than that, the attendees are clearly elite/privileged themselves to be able to afford it or to have the right connections to fund it.

“The price per Delegate place is £3,150.00, this includes physical (in-person), remote (in-person at a satellite location), or virtual attendance (by online broadcast). The price is £4,210.00 for physical (in-person) attendance with private accommodation. All prices are subject to the local taxes of the city hosting the Summit (“Host City”), and all payments must be made in Great British Pounds (GBP). The price does not include any flights or other transportation to or from the Summit, which You must arrange at Your own cost.”

RightGrove · 05/09/2022 23:02

Must be for the most privileged young then, not the common garden socialist woke student.

Mumsnut · 05/09/2022 23:03

I imagine there is a lot of sponsorship from business / govt in the various countries involved

NoName2223 · 05/09/2022 23:03

This is actually very interesting - the sole purpose of the charity is to organise conferences. That’s it! Essentially an events organisation. So no wonder Meghan speech was light on content. I wrongly assumed they were actually “doing something” and the summit was the climax of a year’s work. But no, the summit IS the work. How very 2022.

And interesting that THIS is the type of charity MM devoted herself to all those years ago.
register-of-charities.charitycommission.gov.uk/charity-search/-/charity-details/5027366/charity-overview

Now maybe I’m missing something so happy to be corrected.

NoName2223 · 05/09/2022 23:05

There’s good money in charity work these days…

Employees with total benefits over £60,000

Number of employees
£130k to £140k 2
£150k to £200k 2
£250k to £300k 1

Readinginthesun · 05/09/2022 23:09

Apparently they pay their CEO £326,000 and her daughter £166,050.
Almost half a million out of an income of less than £2million.

JaceLancs · 05/09/2022 23:12

Thanks for the charity commission link - I’m actually rather shocked and will do more research - I work in voluntary sector and worry this gives the many many great charities a bad name - it took us a while to recover from the kids company fall out!

GyozaGuiting · 05/09/2022 23:13

I really liked her to begin with, I loved her progressive attitude, she’s a feminist, she had spunk! I remember the excitement about their wedding, we had a party. I was thrilled Harry seemed happy.

I have no idea what she’s doing now, it’s so pathetic and vacuous. I guess I was a poor judge of character. Harry will suffer in the long run and that’s sad, I worked with him and he’s a lovely guy.

NoName2223 · 05/09/2022 23:14

Thanks - I’m sure I must have missed something…
