With another podcast set for release this week, The Sunday Times has a piece addressing Harry and Meghan's apparent strategy:

Courtiers are bemused by the Sussexes’ determination to rage against the past. As Davis observed of Meghan in her article: “She has taken a hardship and turned it into content.” A source who knows the Sussexes questions why Meghan “is constantly looking back at how awful it was to briefly be a royal. What does success look like, is it a number in the bank? Is it that they’ve killed off the monarchy?” Another Palace source says: “Ultimately they are bashing the institution that has put them in the position they’re in, the longevity of that strategy is not sustainable.”

I'm curious about their strategy, too. They seem to think that criticizing the royal makes them look better - it really doesn't. Instead, it just makes them look petty and increasingly irrelevant.

Meghan will undoubtedly be keeping a journal that she can publish later. I do hope the family will be more careful round her. Or can make her sign an NDA.

Maybe when a family are preparing for the worst in losing a much loved family member, you could lay off the cheap jibes?

Mumsnut · 08/09/2022 14:10

Is it the right thing for him to do? If other grandchildren are there, yes. But otherwise?

(I except William from this, because effectively there is a business handover to be done there).

Roussette · 08/09/2022 14:10

There are other GC there

FoggyCrumpet · 08/09/2022 14:12

Hopefully Meghan will be locked in her room. Seriously, who would want a toxic in law hanging around at a time like this.

Feeling quite tearful about the Queen.

This thread is vile.

Harry will be seeing her on his own.

Only William .

I know I will be shot down but I don’t think Meghan should go to Balmoral Castle . Stay in another house yes but not go to see HM . Meghan has caused huge upset ( as has Harry but he is family) .

CPL593H · 08/09/2022 14:18

I think whatever the other grandchildren decide to do, for H not to have gone (when he was in the UK anyway) would have unleashed Hell on him and been an awful distraction from what is really important at the moment.

Maybe it's even possible some bridges can be rebuilt. It doesn't seem a massive overreach to think that's what the Queen would want. We all know the opposite can happen in families at such times but the echoes of what happened 25 years when William and Harry were at Balmoral can't be lost on anyone at the moment.

Roussette · 08/09/2022 14:20

As I have read it, Meghan isn't going to Balmoral so you can rest easy
BBC have suspended all programming until 6pm

Veeragall · 08/09/2022 14:22

Surely Meghan wouldn't think it is appropriate that she is there?

Nothing to do with me but I think it would cause a lot of unease if Meghan goes to the Castle . I appreciate that H needs support but i am relieved to hear that M will keep her distance .
On a much smaller scale we had a similar situation in our family and the arrival of someone who had caused huge problems only added to the distress.

Mumsnut · 08/09/2022 14:23

Actually, if Meghan had stayed in London and delivered Harry's WellChild speech for him, I think the gesture would have been a helpful one and very well received. But maybe they or she will be back in time.

StormzyinaTCup · 08/09/2022 14:24

I’m glad Harry is there and was ‘local’ and not a 9 hour flight away for his sake as well as the Queen’s.

FoggyCrumpet · 08/09/2022 14:24

Totally agree @Readinginthesun

Now who is being snipey....

It would be odd if all the grandchildren's partners turned up, like Mike Tindall etc.

Mumsnut · 08/09/2022 14:25

Hope HMQ sees W and H together and asks them to build some bridges

🙄 Families don’t generally do what grandma says on her deathbed. It’s real life, not some film.

What ON EARTH is snipey about that????

It's your problem if you took it that way.

That we can all 'rest easy' that Meghan wont be there...you were the one who mentioned cheap jibes before. Yet you seem able to make snidey remarks yourself.

I’ve just heard on the news that both of them are on their way.

Also, I could say the same about most of the stuff you take umbrage with on this and other threads.

CPL593H · 08/09/2022 14:00

There is no way they would make announcements like this, including information about the family travelling to be there, unless they were as certain as it is possible to be.

I agree

It was obviously of great concern to some, I said you can rest easy , it looks like she's not going to Balmoral

Hardly on a par with locking Meghan in a room is it

LondonWolf · 08/09/2022 14:32

I don't think Meghan should go. I think that after, it will make the public angrier because of all she has said and done . She should keep a respectful distance. I'm aware though that she cannot do anything right at this point and others will feel differently to me.
