With another podcast set for release this week, The Sunday Times has a piece addressing Harry and Meghan's apparent strategy:

Courtiers are bemused by the Sussexes’ determination to rage against the past. As Davis observed of Meghan in her article: “She has taken a hardship and turned it into content.” A source who knows the Sussexes questions why Meghan “is constantly looking back at how awful it was to briefly be a royal. What does success look like, is it a number in the bank? Is it that they’ve killed off the monarchy?” Another Palace source says: “Ultimately they are bashing the institution that has put them in the position they’re in, the longevity of that strategy is not sustainable.”

I'm curious about their strategy, too. They seem to think that criticizing the royal makes them look better - it really doesn't. Instead, it just makes them look petty and increasingly irrelevant.

Anyone know how come H&M's security have managed to put a ring of steel around the Manchester venue (if, indeed, that is true)?

I was intrigued by this report too.

Frankly if I was a member of the public who had business in the area I'd be pretty put out at having to shift for that pair of grifters but no doubt the Windsor homeless who were shipped out to make the wedding pretty felt much the same.

CathyorClaire · 05/09/2022 20:15

I would love to hear the inside scoop on what happened with 'Pearl' too.

I think potentially eye-watering production costs to produce a series of what sounded like mind-numbing tedium set against subscriber figures falling off a post-lockdown cliff had more than a little to do with it.

Roussette · 05/09/2022 20:19

I've listened to some of her speech. I thought she looked great and sounded good

Like her or loathe her, she has a presence

Mumsnut · 05/09/2022 20:22

Not heard the speech; she looks great

Roussette · 05/09/2022 20:22

Even the news calls it 'a rapturous reception '

Maireas · 05/09/2022 20:22

It's a shame that people have to like her or loathe her isn't it, @Roussette?
Like everything else it seems, Meghan and Harry seem to polarise opinion.

I highly doubt the writer has been sacked - even if there was an issue with the article, presumably the editor of The Cut must have had full sight of it before it went to print and is ultimately responsible. I doubt Meghan’s team would have seen it prior to print, as it would rather undermine the publication’s integrity if celebs were allowed to edit their own interviews before publication (are there any journos on this thread and if so, can they enlighten us as to what would be the normal practice in this kind of situation?)

Surprised at the poster who said the article wasn’t well written - it was very long (6000 words plus) and held my attention throughout. I think the writer is very skilled.

MarshaMelrose · 05/09/2022 20:27

Wasn't it already reported that the audience had been chosen in advance because they didn't want a repeat of the Jubilee booing?

Maireas · 05/09/2022 20:27

She looks stunning, poised, confident and always speaks well.

StormzyinaTCup · 05/09/2022 20:37

I haven't listened to it yet but I will do.

I like her outfit tonight but then I liked the red outfit she wore in New York too (which was very much a minority view) so probably best no one comes to me for any fashion tips Grin.

SueSaid · 05/09/2022 20:38

She is without doubt an excellent performer and speaker, think that's one thing we'd all agree on.

BlueRidge · 05/09/2022 20:39

I think she delivers well - not so sure about the content. Too much fluff.

Totally agree.

I'd like a bit of 'that was quite good' said begrudgingly 😄

SueSaid · 05/09/2022 20:42

Odd how she said back in 2014 she was like them young and possibly overwhelmed to be in the presence of others. She was an actress in her thirties, not a teenager straight out of college.
<before I'm told not to watch it, it was on the news I didn’t seek it out>

Agree Janiie 🌝

SilverLiningPlaybook · 05/09/2022 20:43

I have only read the transcript and notice there’s a lot of talk about her feelings of humility and lack of confidence when she first joined. Talk about how humbled she is to be there etc. The PR team have been saying some things methinks. She is an excellent public speaker, just the content is woolly and a bit incoherent and overly wordy.

I wonder if she meant 2004? She was already in Suits by 2014?

LittleBearPad · 05/09/2022 20:47

Great outfit - it suits her.

Maireas · 05/09/2022 20:50

I love that red. It's difficult to get (non designer!) clothes in that colour at the moment.
(If anyone cares to join us on Royal Style on the S&B pages, we're discussing her outfit now....)

Agree. She’s a highly polished public speaker (meant as a compliment!)

In the photos I have seen Meghan seems to be the star of the show. Harry is trailing along in her wake looking very uncomfortable. I thought this was originally his gig?

Tonight’s event is “her” gig - Meghan has spoken at their events before. WellChild and Invictus are “his” gigs on their joint trip.

She looks stunning (the bright red is gorgeous and looks spectacular under the lights) and yes she’s always been a very confident speaker.

I watched their introduction from a film on twitter, and they had a very obvious camera man with a steadicam walking backwards in front of them as they walked to the stage. So this is likely largely for content, and I imagine the audience has definitely been picked to be friendly!

It was very unripe tomato 🍅 red, a difficult colour to wear!

SueSaid · 05/09/2022 20:53

Just seemed a bit ott all the rictus grinning, all the 'in the moment' comments. Don't tell the delegates all how great they are whilst in the next breath tell interviewers how crap the rf are. Seems their kindness is so very selective.

Still, as I said a great performance.

meercat23 · 05/09/2022 20:54

I thought her outfit was lovely. The soft flowing lines really suit her, much more so than the formal tailoring she has worn sometimes. I loved the colour too. Some pictures make it look a very bright red others more of a coral shade. Either way she looks stunning.

CathyorClaire · 05/09/2022 20:57

I realise I am very shallow and bad but she looked like a Red Arrow skydiver who'd lost his plane...
