With another podcast set for release this week, The Sunday Times has a piece addressing Harry and Meghan's apparent strategy:

Courtiers are bemused by the Sussexes’ determination to rage against the past. As Davis observed of Meghan in her article: “She has taken a hardship and turned it into content.” A source who knows the Sussexes questions why Meghan “is constantly looking back at how awful it was to briefly be a royal. What does success look like, is it a number in the bank? Is it that they’ve killed off the monarchy?” Another Palace source says: “Ultimately they are bashing the institution that has put them in the position they’re in, the longevity of that strategy is not sustainable.”

I'm curious about their strategy, too. They seem to think that criticizing the royal makes them look better - it really doesn't. Instead, it just makes them look petty and increasingly irrelevant.

In light of their endless attempts to control the press, I wouldn't be surprised if they responded to the article by making a fuss. It backfired incredibly.

SilverLiningPlaybook · 05/09/2022 15:54

No media coverage of their charity visit today it seems.

ArcaneLana · 05/09/2022 15:56

The author may be just going on holiday?. It’s interesting reading replies though.

Wheresthebeach · 05/09/2022 15:57

Her tweet doesn't sound like it...

in other news, for the first time in....... ??? .... i'm going on extended vacation, out of pocket, living in the moment*
pray for my tl/inbox/dms etc.*

SilverLiningPlaybook if you're thinking of the OneYoungWorld summit, I thought most of it takes place this evening?

Do you think Cressida / Chelsey got out because they didn’t fancy living in the royal goldfish bowl, or because Harry was already a very, very difficult personality? I have been wondering

That's an interesting point. Maybe Meghan has had her work cut out in persuading Harry to sort his mental health out. I seem to remember him saying that she had suggested he get help (was it said that it was for anger issues?? Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong on that) In my book, that suggests quite a tricky time for her, as I don't suppose he was always easy to live with, quite apart from the fallout over leaving the UK and his reported fury at the way he felt he was treated.

Serenster · 05/09/2022 16:01

I am sure that sometimes a holiday is just a holiday! 😀

(Most writers are freelance, not employees anyway, aren’t they? It’s the editorial staff who are permanent).

Definitely sounds like an enforced holiday without pay. One of the replies says as much.

CallmeAngelina · 05/09/2022 16:16

Anyone know how come H&M's security have managed to put a ring of steel around the Manchester venue (if, indeed, that is true)?
Does that happen for other royals?

Harry had counselling before Meghan was aroundSpeaking in 2016

smilesy · 05/09/2022 16:20

Sorry 2017

CallmeAngelina · 05/09/2022 16:32

I know he'd had counselling before. This was something more - I think to do with anger issues.

smilesy · 05/09/2022 16:57

@CallmeAngelina

This maybe? From Elle magazine

That's very intriguing ...

My guess is that Sunshine Sachs hired The Cut to do a puff piece on Meghan and is furious with the result, so the author has not only been put on extended leave, she'd been gagged.

That article wasn't brilliantly written, but it was clever in it's tone, because if you weren't really concentrating you could read it as quite sycophantic, and yet it really wasn't. It was subtly snarky.

maranella · 05/09/2022 17:08

I would love to hear the inside scoop on what happened with 'Pearl' too. You know, the animated series that Meghan was supposed to be creating with Netflix.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/09/2022 17:41

Here you go, SilverLiningPlaybook - it definitely says the "Live from Manchester" broadcast bit starts at 6pm tonight:

In fairness that could be exactly as presented. After all it's widely said that Netflix's numbers are dropping and they can't fund everything

Good point. Seeing as the cover was a 'me too' of the Diana photo, I'm guessing they were expecting a piece that was all about how similar she is to Diana...

SilverLiningPlaybook · 05/09/2022 18:23

Good for her for going against expectations and being true to herself! Something Meghan should surely applaud!

HeddaGarbled · 05/09/2022 18:30

I’ve always suspected that Netflix had to pretend to be interested in Pearl in order to get the Invictus documentary in the same way that Random had to agree to The Bench in order to get Harry’s memoir.

It could, but that could also be a convenient excuse for knocking it on the head. In Tom Bower's book he details what a fucking nightmare Meghan is to work with, so that's why I'm curious and more than a little sceptical about Netflix's real reason. She was supposed to be working on it with David Furnish, who is clearly used to managing his notoriously tantrum-prone husband, so he sounds like just the man for the job, but still ...

Ohnonevermind · 05/09/2022 18:58

Netflix closed its whole animation department apart from projects already in production.
My 12 year old was gutted as they were adapting the wings of fire books, and as Meghan’s project was in pre-production it was cut too.
I think it was part of the a big cost cutting exercise.

Ohnonevermind · 05/09/2022 19:28

I just spotted a photo of them arriving. The really long scarf though made me think of the scene in Fire Saga

CathyorClaire · 05/09/2022 19:57

I haven't seen any pics as yet but the words 'long scarf' always bring to mind Tom Baker's Dr. Who.

Please tell me the thing isn't striped!

SilverLiningPlaybook · 05/09/2022 19:58

In the photos I have seen Meghan seems to be the star of the show. Harry is trailing along in her wake looking very uncomfortable. I thought this was originally his gig?
