She was never a Hollywood Star. A Hollywood star is someone like Hallee Berry, Meryl Streep, Octavia Spencer, Cate Blanchett, Whoopi Goldberg etc. At best MM was the US equivalent of the actress who has been on Eastenders since she was a child. Yes, she was an actress but all this, 'used to the glamour and energy of Hollywood and so couldn't adapt to the stuffy monarchy' talk is stupid.
MM also had a very, very good education in IR and there is lots of evidence of her working to raise her profile before she married PH. She had also been married before and lived with partners. To believe and suggest she did not know what she was coming into is beyond ridiculous. She was not a sheltered teenager like Diana and to some extent Kate were, when they became involved with their future husbands.
She also flip-flops from presenting herself as a strong, intelligent, self supporting woman, to the poor innocent who nobody asked if they were OK. She has also got all of her status from the man she married, which makes her protestations of being a femininist a little bit nauseating. People criticised Kate for not working and being a clothes horse before marriage, but in fairness to her she never claimed or tried to be a psudeo intellectual about absolutely everything, whilst writing syrupy, overly florid speeches etc. in an attempt to sound profound, but which actually come off like a precocious sixth former.
Having no old friends and only your mother at your wedding (when members of your family are living) and filling the seats with celebs, who have said they don't know you, was odd.
