The entwined palm tree story is just nauseating

To me, so was the handing of backpacks to the homeless, but then I felt the same about Charlotte and her packs of pasta too - it all put me in mind of Papa Doc flinging dollar bills out of the limo window to his people scrabbling in the dust (showing my age now Blush)

Absolutely nothing wrong with helping the less fortunate of course, but there was really no need for all this to be so performative

notanotheroneagain · 31/08/2022 22:22

What on earth are you going on about?

The thread was just started, how hard is it to keep up. Maybe you can go back, have a look and maybe look at the other threads and you can know what I'm 'on about'.

@Ndd135632 there is no such thing as a 'race card'. That's not a thing.

LondonWolf · 31/08/2022 22:22

@J0y your parents sound similar to my parents. Only it was my Mum had a terrible childhood and my Dad let's her get away with and makes excuses for everything no matter how unreasonable or disordered. They've been together nearly 50 years. I think it's unlikely H & M will split. They've got that Toxic Lock thing going on. It's very recognisable if you've grown up with it.

Ndd135632 · 31/08/2022 22:25

So I give up on this thread. One post gets taken down because my mate actually KNOWS Meghan so there are some facts there. The other is because my friends and I thought she was white until we saw her mum at the wedding. That is not allowed to be said and is censored. Mumsnet you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Farmageddon · 31/08/2022 22:25

I do think the American press are getting tired of them both TBH. The problem is, all they have to 'sell' is their royal connection, which they now shit all over every chance they get.
The problem is, anytime someone questions or criticises, it just feeds into their victim mentality. They feel hard done by and that they are being targeted.

I'm sure it was difficult for her to acclimatise, and the Royal family are totally weird, so there probably were pressures etc. But the fact that they still want all the perks and titles, without doing any of the work is what gets people annoyed. They didn't earn any of it, but feel entitled to it anyway.

If they had properly walked away, and lived a quiet life with their kids, people would have respected that. But they haven't, they continually dine off their royal victim sob stories as it's the only USP they have as a brand.
Megan in particular can't seem to understand that people were only interested in her because she married into the royal family. Without that, she's irrelevant.

LondonWolf · 31/08/2022 22:27

I only learned recently that she dated Ashley Cole and Rory McIlroy before you bagged Harry. She must have been desperate for a celebrity boyfriend to raise her celeb status.

I heard Ashley Cole had no interest whatsoever, didn't respond to her mate Lizzy Cundy feeling him out.

I think on some level she does understand that and it drives her mad but equally she hasn’t given up the title - she still calls herself DofS.

Its perfectly possible to choose not to use it - the Duchess of Kent did it for 10 years and taught in a primary school as Mrs Kent.

StepMumToJustOne · 31/08/2022 22:29

TBF, if I bagged a prince, I'd feel pretty untouchable too.

I imagine Meghan feels that she deserves the platform she's got given that she did work her way up into Hollywood through merit. Sadly, her skills didn't quite transfer into the princess role, but I imagine she blames the RF for that. She never seemed to understand that Kate spent years preparing for the same role, and that's why Kate's skilled at it, and Meghan's not.

Ndd135632 · 31/08/2022 21:53

@Wheresthebeach Gwyneth had a candle that smelled of her vagina. They don’t think they sound ridiculous no. They are living in a different world to the rest of us.

Fair point!

StepMumToJustOne · 31/08/2022 22:30

In regards to the Archie n-word accusations, didn't one of the papers refer to Meghan's pregnancy as a "niggle" or something, which many believed was a dog whistle for the n word?

SilverLiningPlaybook · 31/08/2022 22:31

Wheresthebeach · 31/08/2022 21:50

Does she not know how ridiculous she sounds talking about tree roots and salt and pepper shakers? Does she think it sounds deep and philosophical?

Yes.

J0y · 31/08/2022 22:32

What also turns people off is that they weren't content to be extreeeeeeeemely comfortable financially, they have to try and complete with the kind of wealth the Obamas have generated. That's just not realistic. They can't hustle wisdom and humour out of the bag like B&M

They could have lived in a mere five million pound house. They would have more money than the rest of us would have imagined needing left over. Meghan could have done some theatre work, quietly, to try and get back in to acting in a way that didn't seem to be milking a royal connection. Harry could have set up a harry's boot camp, get fit army style, he would have loved it. they both could have been very happy and very rich but they have made themselves miserable trying to be billionaires.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/08/2022 22:36

If she wants to try and hone her interview skills then go ahead

Horses and stable doors come to mind, especially as the Spotify thing's been a while in the making and a professional actress could surely have sourced advice before now

It's years now since I did my media training, but at least I had the sense to do it before the days when I was dealing with broadcasters and the wider public

Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/08/2022 22:45

They did, yes, but despite attempts to toxify the word we're not yet at the stage where "niggle" has to abbreviated

On the other hand the filthy slur that the "N word" stands for is well understood by practically everyone, and Meghan was very specific about it being used - though once again with no further detail

I agree, but also what she conveniently ignores is that Kate got a lot of shit from the press back in the day when she was just a girlfriend...waity kate, the fact that she's a commoner and has dodgy family members - and all sorts of other stuff. Meghan seemed to act like the press had never hounded girlfriends before, and that she was getting horrible treatment just because she was her.

Kate definitely wasn't always revered by the press or the public. I think at this stage she has earned some respect the hard way, by just getting on with things.

Just like Megan, she had a choice to enter the ridiculousness that is the RF.

Most of us these days understand that the reality is that it's a shitshow of press intrusion and boring duties, with some nice dresses thrown in to make you feel better. The difference is Kate understand what's expected of her, and accepts it.

SilverLiningPlaybook · 31/08/2022 22:46

J0y · 31/08/2022 22:19

Meghan needs to allow the public to have their opinion of her and to detach herself from that public opinion and just 'sit' with it and think about who who she is, get on with that and stop trying to ''subtly'' tell the public out we ought to be perceiving her. It's painful.

At kate and william's engagement interview, the interviewer asked kate how she felt about all the headlines saying she was workshy and she said something along the lines of well, so long as she knows she works hard then she can deal with it.

That's a good mindset. What people think of you? It might be right, it might be wrong but you're not up in the dock in need of a defence, you're just free to let people think what they think and if you're comfortable in your own actions then so much the better.

But meghan doesn't get this and it's so so so painfully obvious that this is her biggest problem in terms of ''likeability'' which if she wants to build a brand, somebody should tell her this.

I really don’t think M listens to anyone. That’s the problem. Her PR team must be tearing their hair out.
She wouldn’t have listened to Harry if he’d spelt
out the full horrors of what her role would involve prior to marriage . Perhaps he did, but she didn’t want to know. She says herself she didn’t listen to her friends. By all accounts she didn’t listen to any of the Palace staff or advisors. She’s a law unto herself.

I talked to my doctor today about a niggling pain . I had no idea I was being racist . And he didn’t seem to have an issue and also used the term.

Funny that isn't it, we keep getting articles about other things, but none have N word in, and if they did too right they should be called out, so, give us the proof.

fancytulip · 31/08/2022 22:49

There's not a role for them any more. America doesn't know what to do with them. In the UK monarchy, they had a role and a purpose and a platform for philanthropy. Now, they're in a void. Striking million dollar deals with massive content companies and putting out nauseatingly orchestrated and micromanaged ''insights'' into their lives, rehashing the same old narrative of a short time in the monarchy. They've deplaformed themselves and have nothing to say or do except polishing old turds

I have a niggling pain on my left side, I'm being an idiot because I know should go to the doctors, but to me it's just niggling so I haven't gone.

So are accusations of abuse. You don't ask the victim to produce evidence in a video do you?

Who asked for a video? I’d settle for her having the guts to name the person who’s supposed to have said it.

Wheresthebeach · 31/08/2022 22:53

I think now that the Mandela’s have so succinctly put her in her place summarising that ‘marrying a prince,’ is her achievement, that her brand is going to be really tarnished.

I’m waiting for a formal response, with as much Royal pomp and ceremony as she can muster.

unname · 31/08/2022 22:54

This is the part of the article that I really loved. He ate one! Archie is brilliant and honest, and those sweet children will be the best part M&H (and I did like the part about them both closing their eyes when they hugged hello.).

At a stoplight, she reaches into the trunk and produces a brand-new black backpack and hands it to her security detail to give to an unhoused man on the corner. They are teaching Archie that some people live in big houses, some in small, and that some are in between homes. They made kits to pass out with water and peanut-butter crackers and granola bars. “I ate one!” Archie contributes.

CPL593H · 31/08/2022 22:56

I had an idea for what they could do when all the rumbling about leaving started. A reality series where young people undertake proper apprenticeships funded via whatever Royal fundraising efforts/trust and as part of their training work on restoring buildings for charitable/community use (there are so many wonderful places going to rack and ruin) Harry could muck in, background on the young people involved and their aspirations, lots of scenery/local interest, experts talking about the buildings and what the charities will use them for, Meghan doing voiceover/other contributions. The scheme could have been called something like "the Duke's Apprentices".

This is I'm sure half baked but these sort of shows have been popular for years even without royal involvement and I think something like that might have worked and done real good. The Queen's father was known as "the Industrial Prince" before he got lumbered and seemed to make a good job of that and his charities even as a "spare".

yeh, he feels strong with her and she's reassured she's right by him.

it works for them in a dysfunctional way. I hope their children are able for it. I had a lot scapegoated on to me and my brother was the golden child. In order to maintain the illusion of perfection I was shamed for raising any issue, shamed for expressing any sadness or confusion, I was met with MARTYRED INDIGNATION if I pointed out any inconsistencies or double standards... I can so see MM doing this :-(
