As the last thread filled up & there's plenty of discussion of Meghan's interview in The Cut, seems worthwhile starting a new thread!

A read yesterday that a series of media interviews are planned to promote the podcasts. Should be very interesting if The Cut interview is anything to go by!

I'm not listening to the podcast (I don't have Spotify and this won't entice me to join) but did that "Diva" exchange really happen like that? If it did...oh my God. MM sounds like the most boring company ever. I couldn't be around someone who takes themselves that seriously.

When you've reached the point that Mariah Carey is more self deprecating and funny than you, you've really bypassed sanity.

That’s not really true though. Mariah has a wicked sense of humour and knows how to send herself up, ie her Walkers Crisps advert is hilarious because she is in on the joke.

I think that’s actually the key difference between being likeable and not. The ability to poke fun at yourself is a great leveller. MC was gently teasing Meghan finds any kind of critical insight hurtful and needed to explain to the podcast that MC was actually complimenting her.

I thinks she (MM) is a very bruised character.

She certainly doesn’t appear to have any sense of humour. Something I have noted about narcissists in general. Very earnest, very up themselves, very over sensitive to criticism. Turn on youlike a snarling dog if you dare to question anything they do.

Meghan really does not take well to any perceived slight or criticism, luckily Mariah had a shovel to dig herself out of the hole she had dug herself before Meghan used it to bury her with.

Later in her podcast, Meghan admitted that she initially thought Mariah was criticising her by calling her a diva, only to learn that she meant it as a compliment.

'My fangirling was tempered today,' said Meghan. 'I kind of think she could tell. But that aside, it was all going swimmingly, really well, until that moment happened, which I don't know about you, but it stopped me in my tracks. When she called me a diva

'You couldn't see me, obviously, but I started to sweat a little bit and started squirming in my chair in this quiet revolt, like "wait, no, what, how could you? That's not true, why would you say that?"

'My mind was genuinely just spinning with what nonsense she must have read or clicked on to make her say that, and I just kept thinking in that moment was my girl crush coming to a quick demise? Does she actually not see me?

'So, she must have felt my nervous laughter, and you would've all heard it too, and she jumped straight in to make sure I was crystal clear when she said diva, she was talking about the way that I dress, the posture, the clothing, the quote, unquote fabulousness, as she sees it.

She does seem to take herself immensely seriously. If MC called me a diva, I'd be thrilled 😂

Paula Yates and Miichael Hutchence?!!!!!
Surely not?
That doesn't bode well for either of them

Wait, for those of us uninformed, which one was the raging narcissist and which one was the lapdog?

I have no idea what this stuff means either .

I think Archie is ginger?

LondonWolf · 30/08/2022 18:52

@MalagaNights I think you're spot on.

Exactly, she couldn't possibly see it as any sort of self depreciating humour. It had to be turned around into a ravishing compliment about how wonderful she is.

There's a good youtube channel, I think it's called the Royal Narcissist, which analyses her behaviour.

I wonder if that’s the channel I saw the other night on one of those reels that pop up on Facebook - it was a clip of her reaction to her mum speaking at an event they were attending. MM was not best pleased 😲

Mariah Carey in 'chums' from SM:TV. She's a bit eccentric, but she does have a sense of humour (she even bought her own dress for this sketch)

My random thoughts. Harry was desperate for marriage and children, his previous girlfriends scarpered as soon as it got too serious. I think with Meghan he didn't want that too happen so wasn't entirely open about life in the RF or her role in it, leaving her woefully unprepared.

He is now paying for that, having been relegated to the role of court jester

I bear no love for the wretched Duke of York; however it is libellous to refer to him as a paedophile . The only ‘offence’ which he has admitted is shagging a 17 year old with her ‘consent’ , which is above the age of consent in the country in which it took place.

Its well known that he was a cheat and didn't treat his ex girlfriends well.

Ooooh do be careful with this! I was called an "Andrew apologist", and "what about if it was your daughter", for saying something similar

It's a desk to show how powerful she is - I would have thought that was obvious from the name.

Loftily placed in front of a stone fireplace, laden with white flowers and a crystal etc. etc. to demonstrate her feminine strength yet gentle serenity.

While Harry does the sweeping outside.

I wonder if the way Harry is presented in Meghan’s projects might be because there’s a bit of tension over who holds the power in the relationship (I believe there are power dynamics in pretty much all relationships).

Looking at what they’ve been doing since they set up Archewell, it’s Harry who had the existing roles at Sentabale and Invictus that have led to trips and events, and Harry who has obtained new paid roles at BetterUp and the Aspen Institute. It was Harry who was invited to speak at the UN on Mandela day and Harry who has spoken on Dax Shephard’s podcast and to Oprah about his mental health for her Amazon series. It’s Harry’s project “Heart of Invictus” that Netflix is taking forward, not Meghan’s “Pearl”. Meghan might have the majority of the ideas and the drive, but it’s Harry who seems to be the one who’s more in demand.

So when Meghan does have a project of her own - 40x40, Archetypes, this article about her - Harry is relegated to the comic walk on part. Perhaps intentionally, perhaps subconsciously?

I wonder when that gormless idiot Harry will wake from her spell?

Or maybe he actually is in love with her, and she with him?

Whatever 'in love' means.

I'm not doubting that, but both Chelsy and Cressida have said that the attention of being in the RF wasn't for them.

A public libel suit brought in front of the High Court by Prince Andrew against a member of the public for labelling him a peadophile would go down really well, wouldn't it? Could just imagine that finishing off the entire royal family.

Is it?

I think he did want to be happily married though.

I'm sure he's very confused as he genuinely feels MM is wonderful (because she's beautiful and clever and says she loves him) yet he's so unhappy.

However this plays out I'd predict a confused & broken depressed Harry and a self assured, no regrets, but moving on Meghan.

I suspect he would win. And it would be more likely to be against mumsnet who continue to allow the accusation.

AchatAVendre · 30/08/2022 19:28

IcedPurple · 30/08/2022 19:25

Have they actually said this, on the record?

Given that most of them move in the same circles, know the same people and get invited to each others' weddings and christenings and are independently wealthy, why on earth would they want to get a reputation and a few pennies from stating it on the record?

However, there is plenty of evidence out there, if you care to look, even if you haven't personally heard it.

Serenster · 30/08/2022 19:29

Meghan on Archetypes:
“Archetypes is the podcast where we explore and subvert the labels that try to hold women back. Here's where we dismantle them with action’

Also Meghan on Archetpes:

Mariah called ME a diva? "Wait, no, what, how could you? That's not true, why would you say that?"

Also Meghan on Archetypes:
“You can pretend to be the perfect version like a Stepford wife and still have the exact same outcome as someone who is being authentically truly themselves and wouldn’t you rather live with a version of yourself where you can look in the mirror at night?” (Hang on, isn’t “Stepford Wife” a derogatory label solely aimed at women…?).

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 30/08/2022 19:30

It may also be a reference to a very famous sketch in which Prince Charles as a black cab driver ( I think Spitting Image) bores on and on at his hapless passenger.

I think he would as well. I don't understand the mindset of insisting on saying he is something that he wasn't accused of in the first place. Sex with a consenting 16 or 17 year old is perfectly legal in the UK and many other places, the issue is consent but I suppose there isn't a convenient slur for that.
